Chapter 984 Deliberately Showing Off Affection
Turned out it was just some spilled food.
Johnnie sighed in relief. "Where are you?"
"Where else? At the hospital entrance," Gabriella said, sounding annoyed.
"Stay there, I'll come get you."
Johnnie hung up and told Randy, "Dad, I'm going to pick her up."
Randy, just done eating, watched Johnnie rush off. He took the napkin Susan handed him and frowned.
"What's her deal? Can't even handle buying food."
Susan knew Randy didn't like Gabriella, which secretly pleased her, but she kept a pleasant demeanor.
"Maybe Ms. Costa isn't used to things here since she grew up abroad."
"That's why people from different places don't match well," Randy said, looking troubled.
'Hope they don't match, or I won't have a chance,' Susan thought but kept it to herself, quietly cleaning up.
At the hospital entrance, Gabriella frowned at the spilled food.
Most of the food was fine except for the soup.
"Gabriella."
Johnnie hurried over.
Gabriella looked at him, annoyed.
"Why'd you call me? Now there's nothing to eat."
Johnnie picked up the bag, looking at the food on the ground.
"It's just some spilled soup; the rest is fine."
Gabriella glanced at the greasy bag, showing disdain.
"It's dirty now, and I can't eat without soup. I'm so thirsty."
"How about I go with you to get more food?" Johnnie asked gently.
Seeing his attitude, Gabriella's temper eased.
"Forget it, your mom's still in surgery. Let's just eat this."
Gabriella compromising? Johnnie smiled and nodded.
They went back to the hallway.
Susan was chatting with Randy.
Seeing them return, she smiled, "Johnnie, did Ms. Costa get lost?"
"No, she spilled the soup because I called her."
Johnnie opened the food containers.
The utensils were in the bag.
He tore it open, wiped the utensils with a napkin, and handed them to Gabriella.
"Eat up."
Gabriella took the utensils and reluctantly started eating.
Susan noticed Gabriella was pampered and relied on others. Such girls were least liked by elders. She glanced at Randy and saw him frown.
Susan smiled slightly; the more Randy disliked Gabriella, the happier she was.
Gabriella ate a few bites and stopped. She was thirsty from running around. She wanted soup to quench her thirst, but it was spilled. So she frowned and stopped eating.
Johnnie noticed and asked, "Not eating anymore?"
"Yeah, I'm thirsty," Gabriella replied.
"What do you want to drink? I'll get it for you," Johnnie said.
Gabriella thought for a moment, "A cup of bubble tea."
She usually avoided bubble tea to not gain weight, but she had seen a shop when buying food. Now she was so thirsty she really wanted one.
"Okay." Johnnie quickly took a few bites, then got ready to buy the bubble tea.
"Johnnie, you've barely eaten. Why don't you keep eating, and I'll get Ms. Costa's bubble tea," Susan offered kindly.
"It's okay, I'll go," Johnnie insisted.
"You're a grown man, and you eat so little?" Randy grumbled.
"I had a late breakfast, so I'm not very hungry," Johnnie replied.
"Busy all morning and still not digested?" Randy said, clearly annoyed.
Gabriella picked up on Randy's tone. She glanced at Johnnie and said, "Are you dumb? We can order delivery."
Johnnie nodded and took out his phone to order. He knew delivery was an option, but the bubble tea shop was close by. Still, he listened to Gabriella.
"Just one bubble tea? Want anything else?" Johnnie asked.
"No, I'm afraid you'll dislike me if I get fat," Gabriella joked.
Johnnie continued ordering. "It's okay, I won't dislike you."
"Men always say one thing and mean another."
Johnnie smiled, ignoring her comment.
"Susan, want a cup?"
"No, I usually don't drink those; they're not very healthy," Susan said.
Johnnie nodded. "I forgot you're a nurse and take care of yourself. Dad, you don't want one either, right?"
Randy glanced at him. "I ate a full meal, so I can't drink those unhealthy drinks."
He was initially happy Johnnie found a seemingly high-class girlfriend. But now, Randy was firmly against it. Their family wasn't poor, but not rich either. He hoped Johnnie would find a sensible, practical girl, not a pampered one like Gabriella.
Gabriella noticed Randy's displeasure but didn't care. She waited for Johnnie to finish ordering.
Half an hour later, the delivery arrived with the bubble tea. Johnnie took it, inserted the straw, and handed it to Gabriella.
She took a few sips, then smiled and offered it to him. "Want a sip?"
Johnnie instinctively wanted to refuse but saw her smiling eyes and took a couple of sips.
"Is it good?" Gabriella asked.
"It's okay."
"Then why did you drink it?"
Johnnie smiled; he knew she did it on purpose, showing affection. He didn't want to embarrass her in front of Randy.
Randy watched and turned away, getting angrier.
Susan watched too, feeling a bit jealous. Wasn't Johnnie an executive assistant at a big company? He usually seemed aloof. How could he be so submissive to Gabriella?
But on the flip side, Johnnie was pampering Gabriella. If she were the one being pampered, Susan would be thrilled.
