Chapter 36 He cares about her

Nora looked up to find Lucas with a darkened expression, clenching her wrist.

"Again, Lucas? Let go," she said.

Lucas pulled her aside. "Nora, we need to talk."
“There’s nothing left to discuss. Let go of me or I’ll scream,” Nora said, her delicate brows furrowed in distress.

Lucas tightened his grip on her hand.

"Nora, you’re my wife. Go on, scream. Let's see who will interfere in a marital argument."

A cold smile touched Nora's lips. "Your wife? Lucas, Becky's been the one with you for the past four years, not me."

Lucas gazed at her lovely face, a taunting smile playing on his lips.

"Jealous, Nora? Fine. Come back to me and tomorrow, I’ll draw the line with Becky. You’ll be the one and only Mrs. Gordon, rightfully and properly."

Hearing this, Nora laughed sarcastically.

"Lucas, to be your rightful Mrs. Gordon? No thanks, I'd rather not. After all, scumbags belong with their cheap mates! You're a perfect match for Becky!"

Her voice dripped with mockery.

Anger flared across Lucas's face, his grip intensifying.

"Are you going to let go, or not? Somebody, help me! This man is harassing me!"

Nora’s cry for help echoed as passers-by glanced their way.

Lucas's expression shifted as he wrapped an arm around her waist.

"Baby, I'm sorry. Calm down, will ya? Let’s go home and talk about it."

"Who’s your baby? Get your filthy hands off me!" Nora fumed.

Lucas cooed soothing words, trying to appease her while onlookers assumed it was just a couple’s tiff.

Then, a lazy, male voice floated over.

"Lucas, might wanna rethink your approach with the ladies."

Lucas looked up to see Edric strolling over with his hands in his pockets.

Clad in a casual white shirt, his excessively handsome face shining under the sun's glare was annoyingly eye-catching.

Thinking of a previous irritation, Lucas felt his mood sour.

"Edric, stay out of this. It’s a domestic issue."

Edric came to a stop before them, his tone nonchalant yet carrying an edge of cool indifference. "And if I insist on getting involved?"

Though Lucas was from the Gordon family, he was only a collateral member and dared not offend Edric.

Yet, Lucas's pride was stung.

"Edric, coveting a married woman? Won’t look good if word gets out."

Edric’s brows arched as he glanced at Nora and let out a mocking chuckle.
"I'm counting to three, and if you don't let her go, it's on you. Three, two..."

Lucas's expression went through a rapid shift, and by the time Edric reached one, he had finally released Nora.

"Nora, you've really opened my eyes!"

She actually had Edric stand up for her!

When did she get so close to Edric?

As she watched Lucas leave, Nora rubbed her wrists and looked at Edric.

"Are you the Edric?"

"That's me," Edric said with a smile.

"Thanks for stepping in just now."

"It's nothing."

Edric’s gaze swept over Nora, a smile playing on his lips.

He helped her out for the sake of a friend.

After all, whether his buddy could make a comeback depended on this enchanting doctor.

"About Mont International Kindergarten's policy, did you get it canceled?"

Nora voiced her suspicion.

"Yes," Edric admitted without denial.

"Do you know me?" Nora asked.

Edric's eyes flickered, and he nodded, "Aren't you Lucas's wife?"

Though he didn’t actually remember her as Lucas's wife, it wasn't time to bring out Aaron.

Nora felt a twinge of unease.

Was he helping her because he was interested in a married woman?

Was her charm really that significant?

No, it had to be a coincidence.

"Edric, thanks again for your help, I should get going."

With her mind racing, Nora's steps hastened.

As a car passed by, Edric quickly pulled her back.

"Watch out."

He pulled a bit too hard, and Nora ended up in his arms.

Not far away, Jenny was coming their way, holding two cups of coffee.

She was about to call Nora when she glimpsed Nora being pulled into Edric’s embrace.

What was Edric up to?

Was he trying to take advantage of Nora?

Jenny's eyes widened, and she hurried towards them.

Meanwhile, Nora straightened up, her heart still pounding.

She’d nearly been hit by a car.

"Edric, you've helped me yet again, thank you."

Edric chuckled lightly, about to speak, when suddenly a woman burst forth from the opposite side, flinging a cup of coffee right at them.

"Edric, you playboy, stay away from my best friend!"

Edric closed his eyes, feeling the dampness on his face and body, his mood sinking deeper and deeper.
He opened his eyes, wiped the water from his face, fury filling his otherwise attractive gaze.

"It was you? Jenny, do you have a death wish?"

Nora was just as stunned, not expecting her best friend to burst forth and douse Edric with a coffee bath.

"Jenny, what are you doing?"

Jenny looked at her, "Nora, did he just force himself on you? Don’t be scared, I’ve got your back."

Nora paused, then couldn't help but laugh.

"It’s not like that..."

"Jenny, you must be out of your mind. When did I ever force myself on her?" Edric hissed through clenched teeth.

Jenny glared at him, "Edric, still making excuses? I clearly saw you pulling Nora into your arms."

"I…" Edric was frustrated.

"And another thing, if you weren't sneakily targeting her, why would you suddenly interfere with Mont International Kindergarten's business?" Jenny fired off another question.

Edric almost burst out laughing.

He turned to Nora, "Nora, tell her yourself. What really happened just now?"

Nora looked apologetic, tugging at Jenny’s arm. "Jenny, you've got it all wrong. Edric just saved me…" She recounted her encounter with Lucas and how Edric stepped in to help.

Jenny’s eyes showed a hint of guilt when she saw how disheveled Edric looked.

"So, what about the kindergarten? Edric, why did you suddenly decide to get involved there?"

Oh no, did she just misunderstand her own boss?

Her hands trembled, what should she do?

Edric, still wiping the stains from his clothes with a napkin, froze at her words.

"I got involved because a friend needed help. What's the big deal?"
