Chapter 423 Coming to Pick Her Up
As Nora listened to Mrs. Woodhouse's description, she understood.
"This Olivia doesn't seem that young, but her style is quite mature," Nora mentioned.
Her whole demeanor seemed superficial.
"Well, she just started her freshman year in college," Mrs. Woodhouse shook her head, "Actually, she didn't even pass the college entrance exam. It was Arthur who used the Woodhouse family's connections to get her into a third-tier university. Honestly, I'm not a snob, but I really don't think much of Arthur's relatives."
Nora questioned, "Why is that?"
"Nora, don't you think their motives are impure?" Mrs. Woodhouse shared the same feeling and nodded slightly.
Interpersonal relationships are built on first impressions.
She truly felt nothing for Arthur and Olivia.
Mrs. Woodhouse said, "And you do not know that Arthur's sister Elsa used to be in prison."
Upon hearing this, Nora's eyes showed a hint of surprise. "How did that happen?" she asked.
Mrs. Woodhouse explained, "When Elsa was young, she worked at the Hamilton's Group. At first, she was just an ordinary receptionist. Still, later, because her brother Arthur married Chloe, and the two families were related by marriage, her position at the Hamilton's Group naturally rose. It didn't take long for her to become the executive director.
"This Elsa may be a woman, but she had some crooked ideas. Taking advantage of Arthur's connections, she embezzled and accepted bribes while she was in her position. Whenever new people came in, she would secretly instruct others to give gifts. If the new person refused to give gifts, she would find an excuse to fire them.
"At that time, there was a young graduate who couldn't stand Elsa's behavior after joining the company, so she reported her to higher authorities. But because of Arthur's connections, her report was intercepted by Elsa. Now, Elsa even sent someone to beat up that young girl brutally.
"The girl had just started dating her boyfriend, and she was already over a month pregnant, but she was beaten so badly that she miscarried. Her boyfriend reported it to the police, which caught the attention of your father, Ebenezer.
"Ebenezer didn't show any mercy. After learning about Elsa's actions, he sent her to prison. Arthur went to plead, asking Ebenezer to spare Elsa, but Ebenezer remained firm, saying that if Elsa were let go, it wouldn't be fair to the victim, and Elsa had committed a crime and must be punished.
"Later, Elsa served two years in prison, and it was only through Arthur's occasional requests that she managed to negotiate with some connections to have her released on bail."
Mrs. Woodhouse told the story in a measured tone, and Nora listened attentively, surprised to hear such a tale.
Arthur's relatives indeed had ill intentions.
Nora remarked, "No wonder Olivia seems so uncultured. She must have been raised with twisted values."
Mrs. Woodhouse nodded in agreement. "Exactly. In fact, the Woodhouse family doesn't like Olivia, but because of Arthur's connections, we have no choice but to put on a friendly face. After all, Chloe still depends on Arthur, so we must respect him," she explained.
Upon hearing this, Nora hesitated for a moment. "Mrs. Woodhouse, do you think Arthur can take care of Chloe?"
Mrs. Woodhouse paused, saying, "Well, how do I put this? After all, Arthur has been with Chloe for more than twenty years. Even the most patient person can't take care of a chronically ill person. Arthur deserves credit for living together with Chloe, who has intellectual disabilities, for so many years."
'That is the case, but it can't be compared. After all, Chloe doesn't have any serious illness; she has slightly low intellectual abilities,' Nora thought this to herself and didn't say much.
Everything will be discussed after she helps Chloe get better.
The snow in the sky was getting heavier, and Mrs. Woodhouse grabbed Nora and said, "Nora, hurry up, it's snowing heavily."
"Okay." Nora nodded.
Nora smiled and followed her into the villa.
"Nora, it's snowing outside. If you're not busy, stay a little longer before leaving," Mrs. Woodhouse said, brushing off the snow from her face.
She liked Nora very much and just wanted her to stay and play at home a little longer.
"All right." Nora smiled and agreed.
At that moment, there was a message on her phone.
It was from Aaron.
Aaron: [Where are you?]
Nora: [At the Woodhouse family.]
Aaron: [It's snowing. Wait for me at the Woodhouse family, I'll come to pick you up later.]
Aaron wants to pick her up.
Nora: [No need, you're busy, Frederick is here.]
Not long after, Aaron sent another message.
Aaron: [The first snow of winter, don't you want to appreciate it with me?]
Nora: [What!]
Someone wants to appreciate the first snow with her?
When did he become so romantic?
Nora felt sweet in her heart and sent.
Nora: [Okay, I'll wait for you.]
She put away her phone with a sweet smile on her face.
"Here, have some fruit," Mrs. Woodhouse offered, and brought a plate of fruit over.
Seeing Nora's sweet smile, she teased, "You're smiling so sweetly; who were you chatting with just now?"
Nora took a bite of the sweet melon and casually replied, "Aaron said he's coming to pick me up later."
"Really? To appreciate the first snow together?" Mrs. Woodhouse asked.
Nora swallowed the food in her mouth and looked surprised, "Mrs. Woodhouse, how did you know?"
Mrs. Woodhouse smiled and said, "You've never been in a serious relationship, have you? Appreciating the first snow symbolizes pure love. Walking in the snow together with your lover signifies growing old together! Mr. Gordon seems to be very thoughtful!"
So that's how it is!
Nora suddenly realized.
Looking at Mrs. Woodhouse's smiling face, Nora said, "It seems like you and Mr. Woodhouse have done this before, right?"
Mrs. Woodhouse sighed, "He's just a straight guy, and he never expected that. This is something girls usually want because girls are more romantic, you know."
Is that so?
But she didn't even consider this.
Instead, it was Aaron who thought of it.
Nora pouted, the smile on her face fading.
Aaron, a big man, was even more romantic than her.
Was it because he had previously watched the first snow of winter with Suzy?
She felt an inexplicable wave of jealousy!
An hour later, Aaron arrived outside the Woodhouse family villa.
Nora and Mrs. Woodhouse said their goodbyes and walked outside.
At this moment, Aaron stood in the snow, holding a black umbrella.
The tall and leggy man, dressed in a black woolen coat, stood proudly among the world, exuding an elegant and cold arrogance, seemingly making everything lose its colors.
Seeing Nora coming out, he walked briskly to her side and pulled her into his arms, his eyes full of affection.
"Are you cold?" Aaron asked.
As Nora smelled the familiar and pleasant scent emanating from the man, her heart softened despite still being bothered by the first snow incident.
"Not cold," Nora replied.
Aaron didn't say much; he walked to the car and opened the back door for her.
Not far away, Olivia, who was about to go home, looked at the elegant and noble Aaron, instantly captivated.
Who is this man?
So handsome and stylish!
Because he and Nora are so intimate, could he be Aaron, the person in charge of Gordon's group?
