Chapter 886 Your Woman and I Had a Grudge

At Lindwood City Airport, Jane was anxiously waiting for news from Nora at the boarding gate. She just hoped Nora would bring good news.

Her phone rang. It was Nora.

She quickly answered.

"Dr. Smith."

"Yes, we've arranged everything. The military in the border area will launch a sudden attack on the several gangs there, and they will definitely be able to rescue Zephyr."

Jane felt a wave of relief. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. Take care of yourself too."

"Okay. I'm about to board. We'll talk next time."

"Alright."

Jane put away her phone and went through security. Thinking of Zephyr, a hint of guilt flashed in her eyes.

'Zephyr, you must hold on. Wait for me!' she thought. When the night fell, the sky was filled with stars, illuminating the land, except a certain dark corner.

In a dilapidated warehouse, Zephyr was tied up and unconscious. When he woke up, he saw two burly men with weapons aimed at him.

Zephyr's mind cleared. He remembered driving to the lab when his tire blew out. As he checked the car, a vehicle stopped beside him. A man got out and knocked him out with a handkerchief. He remembered nothing after that.

Judging by the situation, he had been kidnapped again. He had a streak of bad luck this year.

Zephyr looked depressed and struggled to sit up. "Who are you, and what do you want?"

The two men stared ahead, silent.

Zephyr licked his dry lips. "I'm thirsty. Can I have some water?"

They still didn't speak.

Zephyr frowned. "Are you guys alive? If so, say something."

"Shut up, or I'll shoot you!" one of them finally spoke.

Zephyr scrutinized the two men. Their muscles were tight, and their eyes fierce—not like ordinary kidnappers. The word flashed through his mind: 'Mercenaries.'

'Who sent them? Who would hire mercenaries to kidnap me? For money? But I'm just an illegitimate child; even if they wanted to extort money, they shouldn't come after me.'

As he was lost in thought, the warehouse door creaked open. Someone came in.

Zephyr looked up and saw a man about 5'9", wearing camouflage, with a fierce look in his eyes. The two men in black slightly turned their bodies and nodded respectfully to him.

Matteo walked up to Zephyr and looked down at him. Zephyr tried to recognize him but didn't know Matteo.

"Who are you? Did you kidnap me because we have a grudge, or did someone ask you to?"

Matteo stared at him for two seconds. "I have no grudge against you, but your woman does."

Zephyr was stunned. "My woman, who?"

His first thought was Sandy. After all, in Zephyr's youth, he had only been involved with Sandy.

"You don't know who your girlfriend is?"

Matteo sneered, looking at Zephyr with a hint of hatred, like he wanted to tear a piece of flesh from him.

Zephyr thought for a moment. "Are you talking about Jane?"

He and Jane were currently pretending to be a couple. Was Matteo referring to Jane?

Matteo squatted down, grabbed his chin, and looked him over with a mocking tone. "I can't believe Wolf would like a man like you."

'Wolf?' 'Is he talking about Jane?' Ignoring the pain in his jaw, Zephyr thought of Jane's undercover role and began to understand. 'Wolf must have been Jane's undercover name.' 'It seems Matteo is Jane's enemy, and Matteo has kidnapped him to lure Jane out.' 'So I am kidnapped because of Jane.'

"Did you kidnap me because of Jane?" Zephyr asked.

"Yes, are you scared?" Matteo asked coldly.

Zephyr didn't respond.

Matteo released Zephyr's face and stood up. He expressionlessly lifted his foot and stomped hard on Zephyr's bound hand, grinding it. "What does Wolf see in you?"

Pain shot through his hand, and Zephyr groaned, cold sweat forming on his forehead, but he kept his lips tightly sealed.

Matteo, seeing his reaction, slowly lifted his foot, a hint of surprise in his eyes. "You have some guts. I wonder if you'll still be so calm with a gun to your head?"

With that, Matteo pulled a gun from his waistband and pressed it to Zephyr's temple.

Zephyr's nerves tensed, his Adam's apple bobbing as he seemed to hear the sound of a bullet being chambered.

Above him, Matteo's sinister voice came. "Gigolo, I'll give you a chance. If you curse Wolf for twenty minutes, I'll let you go."

Hearing this, Zephyr was silent for a moment, then laughed. "I'm a man; I won't stoop to cursing my girlfriend. If you want to kill me, go ahead."

Zephyr knew that since he was brought here, Matteo wouldn't let him go easily. Making him curse Jane was just Matteo's twisted pleasure. He must really hate Jane.

Matteo was irritated. "You suprised me. It seems you're not afraid of death. Fine, I'll grant your wish!"

Matteo pressed the gun harder against Zephyr's temple. Zephyr closed his eyes, hearing the click of the trigger being pulled. The sound made his heart clench. But he was still alive. Matteo's gun wasn't loaded.

Matteo squinted, put away the gun, and played with it, looking Zephyr up and down. "So I was wrong. You're a gigolo, but you have some guts?"

Zephyr opened his eyes and looked at Matteo, saying nothing. He was a normal person; having a gun to his head, it was impossible not to be scared. But Zephyr also knew that Matteo wouldn't kill him easily. Because Jane hadn't arrived yet. So Zephyr had to stay calm.

Matteo checked the time. "Twenty more minutes. Do you think she'll come for you?"

Zephyr still didn't respond. Thinking of Jane's calm eyes, he instinctively felt she would come. Jane wasn't someone who feared death; she was a righteous cop. Because of her, he was captured, so even if she knew it was a trap, Jane would come.

Zephyr's heart tightened. Jane wouldn't be foolish enough to come alone, right?
