Chapter 266 You Don't Want to Be Aaron's Woman
"Fine."
The note of displeasure in Emma's voice was not lost on Suzy. She knew that Emma held little regard for Nora, the illegitimate offspring. The prospect of the ensuing drama filled her with a perverse delight. Yet, every time Nora crossed her mind, her features contorted with revulsion.
How could such a despicable woman be so fortunate? Not only had she snatched away her man, but was she also on the verge of usurping her family? The thought filled her with a towering rage.
Suzy closed her eyes, trying to quell her tumultuous emotions, before making a phone call. After several rings, someone answered. She crossed her legs and assumed a posture of entitlement. "Remington, what have you been preoccupied with of late?" She still had this card to play, and it was high time she used it again.
"What else could I possibly be busy with? Ever since I published that paper, I've been virtually ostracized from the entertainment industry, haven't I?" Remington's voice was laced with bitterness.
Suzy had coerced her into plagiarizing Nora's paper, exploiting a secret she held over her. Consequently, the lead role she had finally secured was reassigned. Aaron had suggested she take a hiatus, which was essentially a professional banishment. Now, she was relegated to accepting minor performance gigs, a situation that was driving her to despair.
"Sunny, are you blaming me?" Suzy's face was a mask of scorn.
"I wouldn't dare." Remington's tone was submissive, but she was seething, unable to voice her resentment.
"Fine, it's only natural for you to blame me." Suzy reclined on the couch, shifting her position. "Don't worry, I won't let you continue like this; I’ll provide you with opportunities."
Hearing this, Remington fell silent for a moment, scarcely able to believe it. "Really?"
"What, you don't believe me? After all, I'm a Ebenezer from Lindwood City, a superstar actress. Aren't the resources at my disposal too numerous to count?" Suzy retorted.
"I don't disbelieve you, then thank you, Miss Hamilton," Remington quickly responded, her attitude becoming more deferential.
Contempt flashed in Suzy’s eyes as she spoke, “You don't need to thank me; I need you to do something for me."
"What is it?"
"Seduce Aaron."
That was the real purpose of her call. Promising resources was just part of her scheme. If it weren't for the fact that Remington was still useful, Suzy wouldn't bother interacting with such a woman.
Remington fell silent, as if pondering something. Suzy prodded, "What's the matter, you don't want to be Aaron's woman?" Remington finally responded, "No, I want to be Mr. Gordon's woman, but I'm not worthy."
Who wouldn't want to be the young Mrs. of the Gordon Family Group? But she knew her own limitations. Suzy smirked, "Sunny, thinking you can be the lady of the Gordon Family Group? Of course, you're not fit for that. I want you to seduce Aaron, to get under Nora's skin, to be Aaron's mistress, okay?"
Did she really think she was going to help her nab Aaron? She just wanted her to bother Nora, okay?
"Miss Hamilton, Mr. Gordon already warned me last time; I dare not seduce him again ." Remington was obviously aware of the situation and didn't agree to her proposal.
"Not daring? When you lied to him, saying he slept with you, how come you were so bold then?" Suzy taunted.
Remington was silent, her breathing slightly hurried. Suzy continued, "Sunny, I'll give you another chance. Either you listen to me and go seduce Aaron, and I'll immediately set you up with a few endorsement contracts. Or, I'll go right now and tell Aaron that you shamelessly deceived him!"
Hearing this, Remington hastily replied, " Don't tell Aaron; I'll listen to you."
Suzy gave a contemptuous smile, knowing Remington would fold.
"That's more like it. Don't worry, you won't be acting alone; just be obedient and stay in touch at all times."
"Okay," Remington replied.
Suzy hung up the phone, then tossed her mobile aside. A frosty smile curled at the corners of her mouth.
"Nora, if I can't have it, neither can you," she murmured into the silence.
In the bustling auditorium of the local kindergarten, each class was taking their turn to perform.
Nora, phone poised and ready, eagerly began recording as Alex and Billy's class took the stage. Their class was presenting a grand choir performance, and the sight of her two little boys singing with such fervor and concentration brought a tender smile to Nora's face.
They were simply too endearing.
Once their performance concluded, it was Samantha's turn to captivate the audience with a solo.
The little girl was adorned in a pristine white tulle dress, a crown perched atop her head, the epitome of a perfect little princess. She was a delightful blend of elegance and charm.
As the host concluded the introduction and the music commenced, Samantha began to sing. Her youthful, tender voice was clear and melodious, a joy to the ears.
Samantha enunciated each word with precision and depth, her voice harmonizing with the rhythm like a babbling brook, enchanting the audience. Nora had heard her daughter sing before, but there was something particularly magical about her performance that evening. With the music accompanying her, Samantha's voice seemed even more mellifluous than usual.
"She truly has an impressive voice," Nora mused to herself, her heart swelling with pride as the song concluded to resounding applause.
"Sounds amazing," Aaron commented, his praise echoing Nora's thoughts.
"I think so, too," Nora responded, her face radiant with pride.
Aaron cast a glance at her. "Should we consider getting Samantha a music Professor Lee?"
Nora pondered for a moment. "Let's see what she wants to do."
She was not one to force her children into a multitude of activities. She believed childhood should be about joy and happiness. After all, a blissful childhood could be a remedy for life's numerous trials.
Of course, if Samantha enjoyed singing and was receptive to training with a Professor Lee during the holidays, Nora would be more than happy to support her.
"Alright, whatever you think is best," Aaron concurred, content to follow Nora's decision.
As they quietly deliberated their daughter's future, Nora couldn't help but notice Mary's piercing glare from across the room. The look was indistinct from a distance, yet the fury behind it was palpable, slightly dampening Nora's mood.
What would become of their relationship if Aaron's family never accepted her? It was a distressing thought, but she dismissed it, choosing not to dwell on it for the time being.
Soon, the performance concluded.
Nora rose from her seat to collect her daughter. "Aaron, I'll go pick up Samantha."
"Alright, and I'll pick up Alex and Billy," Aaron replied, also rising from his seat.
Hesitating for a moment, Nora suggested, "Maybe I should get Samantha and then go for Alex and Billy. You seem busy."
She had noticed Aaron frequently checking his phone, seemingly inundated with work.
"It's fine. These few minutes won't make a difference," Aaron reassured her before heading out.
Nora watched his tall figure leave, biting her lip. Her concern wasn't solely about his workload—she worried that Mary, upon seeing him pick up Alex and Billy, might grow angrier and instigate trouble. But since Aaron had made up his mind, there wasn't much she could do.
As she made her way to the dressing room to fetch Samantha, Nora arrived just as a child's voice erupted from within.
"You're just a wild child without a dad. You don't deserve to be on TV!"
"I do have a daddy, and I deserve to be on TV!"
"Pfft, Samantha, you're lying! My grandma and great-aunt said you don't have a dad at all."
"Ow, that hurts! Wah, Alford Baggins, you're a big meanie!"
The voice was unmistakably Samantha's.
Nora quickly navigated through the crowd and saw her daughter Samantha sitting on the ground in tears, a little boy standing over her with his hands on his hips, glaring down at her.
