Chapter 908 Rethink the Alliances

Hubert rushed out with his assistant and bodyguards in tow.

The place fell silent. The employees who used to look down on Zephyr and Jane now straightened up and showed them the utmost respect.

Jane turned to Oskar and asked, "Are you Victor's assistant?"

Oskar's heart skipped a beat. "Yes, I'm Mr. Petrov's assistant, Oskar."

Jane didn't make things hard for him.

"Tell all department heads there's a meeting in the conference room in half an hour. If they don't show, they'll face the consequences!"

"Yes," Oskar replied quickly.

Jane then asked, "Where's Victor's office?"

"Over there. Please follow me." Oskar led the way without hesitation.

"Mr. Wright, after you," Jane said, giving Zephyr a nod.

Zephyr nodded back and walked in.

Everyone watched them enter the general manager's office and finally let out a collective sigh of relief.

Whispers started up again.

"What's going on? Mr. Wright takes over, and Mr. Petrov gets arrested? This isn't simple!"

"Do you even need to ask? Mr. Wright's making an example out of him."

"Victor should've been arrested ages ago. He was always flaunting his ties with Mr. Hubert Wright and embezzling funds."

"Exactly! But for the cops to get involved, it seems the new Mr. Wright isn't someone to mess with. We might need to rethink our alliances!"

Inside the office, Zephyr and Jane couldn't hear the murmurs, but they could tell from everyone's faces that the attitude towards them had definitely shifted.

Jane had anticipated that Victor, as Hubert's confidant, wouldn't cooperate easily.

So, based on Emilio's info, a report landed in the police chief's email first thing in the morning.

This led to Victor's early morning arrest, serving as a warning to everyone in the company.

No one dared to challenge Zephyr's authority next.

"Mr. Wright, Ms. Harvey, if you need anything changed in the office, I'll arrange it immediately," Oskar said respectfully.

With Victor under investigation, this office was now Zephyr's.

Zephyr looked around; the office was lavishly decorated.

Everything was top-notch, showing how much Victor enjoyed his life.

"No need."

"Change the soft furnishings like the sofa," Jane instructed.

Zephyr was about to decline, but Jane had already made the call.

He glanced at her but didn't object.

"Anything else?" Oskar asked.

"Not for now, you can go," Jane said.

"Yes." Oskar left, feeling a bit uneasy.

With the company changing leadership, he, as Victor's subordinate, didn't know if he'd be fired.

In the office, Zephyr asked, "Why change the soft furnishings? Everything here seems high quality. Isn't it a waste of money?"

Jane patted the back of the sofa. "Zephyr, you're the boss now. A new beginning needs new things. Using someone else's stuff isn't auspicious."

Zephyr raised an eyebrow. "You believe in luck?"

Jane shrugged. "I had no choice. When I was undercover, I found that those gang leaders had no other skills but were extremely superstitious. They'd pray to God all the time and were very particular about luck. After mixing with them for a few years, it's hard not to pick up on it."

Zephyr chuckled. "They prayed to God all the time but still ended up where they were supposed to. So, it's all about fate. Praying and believing in luck doesn't change anything."

Jane shrugged. "I get that, but knowing what I know, it makes me feel off to ignore it."

Zephyr laughed again. "Alright, we'll do it your way!"

They shared a smile and started getting familiar with the company's layout.

Half an hour later, they headed to the conference room.

By then, almost all the department managers had shown up.

Except for a few.

Jane had gone over the company's info last night, so she had a good grasp of who was who.

She could recognize them by sight.

After they sat down, she scanned the room, matching faces to the photos in the files.

She noticed the marketing manager, Quentin Taylor, was missing.

Jane wasn't in a rush and whispered a few words to Zephyr.

Zephyr glanced at the empty seat and got the message.

"Ms. Harvey, let's get started."

"Sure."

Jane cleared her throat and began.

"Hello everyone, I'm Jane Harvey, and from today, I'll be Mr. Wright's assistant. This is Mr. Wright, who will be taking over Medicovita Pharmaceuticals. Now, I'll call the roll so we can get to know each other."

She started calling names, and everyone eyed Zephyr at the head of the table. No one dared to challenge him anymore.

They'd all heard about Victor being taken away for investigation this morning.

Victor was Hubert's right-hand man.

Someone like Victor, who had committed many illegal acts, seemed untouchable.

But as soon as Zephyr took over, Victor was arrested.

If Zephyr hadn't planned this, it wouldn't have happened.

No one dared to underestimate Zephyr now.

They feared becoming the next Victor.

"Is Quentin, the marketing manager, not here yet?" Jane called out.

No one spoke, but they all secretly admired Quentin.

Quentin was an old hand with considerable clout.

As the marketing manager, he controlled a lot of the company's core business.

So he had a lot of influence.

Quentin being late was probably his way of testing Zephyr.

Even if he was late, Zephyr wouldn't dare do anything to him.

After all, if Quentin got mad and took a lot of business elsewhere, it would be a fatal blow to Medicovita Pharmaceuticals!

At that moment, the conference room door opened, and someone walked in.

It was Quentin.

He wasn't very tall, quite lean, and not yet forty.

His eyes were sharp and shrewd.

"Sorry everyone, I had to drop off some materials to a business partner at the hotel this morning. Traffic was a mess, so I'm late."

Quentin apologized, but his face showed no regret.

He pulled out a chair, sat down, and asked the person next to him, "Where are we in the meeting? Any notes?"

The person next to him glanced at Zephyr and whispered, "The meeting hasn't officially started yet. Ms. Harvey is calling the roll."

Quentin said, "Oh, the meeting hasn't started yet. I rushed over for nothing, didn't even have time for a drink of water."

Quentin's tone was casual, showing no respect for Zephyr.
