Chapter 1114 Alfred Would Never Bully Me
Elowen got it and started twirling her hair. "Samantha, my bad. I'm the type who just blurts stuff out. Now that we've hashed it out, we're cool, right? No hard feelings?"
Elowen apologized first, and Samantha was quick to let it slide. "Elowen, you're making me sound like some saint or something."
Elowen thought Samantha wasn't down to make up and her face fell.
Samantha grinned. "You thinking I'm tough to deal with and that's why Wesley dumped me?"
Elowen realized Samantha was messing around. She pouted. "Should I own up or what?"
Samantha shrugged. "Just go with your gut."
Elowen expected Samantha to be all distant, but this was a surprise. Her bias against Samantha started to fade. "So Miss Gordon's got some quirks, huh? Wesley's loss, big time."
Samantha caught the tease and shot back, "Can you stop bringing up Wesley? Your boyfriend's right here, you know. Aren't you worried he'll get jealous?"
Thaddeus glanced at Elowen. "Elowen, you into Wesley or something?"
Elowen was flabbergasted. "No way. Samantha, you're so sneaky, stirring the pot like that!"
Samantha laughed. "You were giving me attitude, so I had to clap back a bit."
She said this while darting towards the barbecue stand.
"Hold up, let's talk for real." Elowen chased after her, looking ready for a serious chat.
"Hey, you two, chill out." Thalassa quickly followed.
Girls can become friends in no time, just like these three.
Lykke finally relaxed, seeing the tension ease. She noticed Alfred walking ahead, looking blank. "Alfred, don't blame my friend. Look, they're all buddy-buddy now."
Alfred stopped and said seriously, "Lykke, I owe you an apology. I only agreed to dinner to make Samantha jealous. I don't have feelings for you."
Lykke took a deep breath, clutching her chest. "Ouch, my poor heart. Alfred, are you apologizing or just being mean?"
Her teasing made Alfred crack a smile. "Sorry, Lykke. I'll grant you one wish, anything you want."
Lykke didn't really care. She knew from the start Alfred had someone else in mind. But since he offered, she decided to play along. "Hmm, let me think. Got a brother as hot as you? Hook me up."
Alfred did have a brother in Hchilia, but they weren't that close. Alfred squinted. "I got a buddy coming over later. He's super handsome and funny. You might like him."
Alfred was talking about Ryan.
"Really? You're not just saying that to keep your promise, right?" Lykke was a bit skeptical.
Alfred said, "Nope, I don't lie."
"Now I'm kinda excited."
Not far away, a group sat down at a barbecue stand, chatting and laughing.
Seeing Lykke and Alfred still chatting, Elowen shot a glance at Samantha and said, "Check out those two. What's up with them? Alfred wouldn't be playing both sides, would he? I mean, Lykke's got the looks and all."
Samantha rolled her eyes, catching Elowen's drift. "You think guys fall for every girl they see?"
Elowen was about to agree but caught on to Samantha's trap. She pinched Samantha's arm. "Samantha, why you gotta be so sneaky?"
Samantha brushed her off. "You started it, didn't you?"
Elowen huffed. "How did I start anything? I was just asking a legit question!"
Just then, Lykke and Alfred, having wrapped up their chat, walked over.
Lykke asked, "What are you guys talking about?"
Elowen eyed Alfred. "Wondering if he's two-timing."
Alfred paused, frowning at Elowen.
Samantha waved it off. "Ignore her, she's just lost it."
Elowen yelled, "You're the one who's lost it, your whole family's lost it!"
Samantha laughed. "If my whole family were nuts, that'd be pretty wild."
Elowen pouted. "You trying to scare me or something?"
Samantha shrugged. "Just stating facts."
Elowen snorted, dropping the argument with Samantha, and turned to Alfred and Lykke. "So, what were you two talking about? Alfred, you think Lykke's better than Samantha, the so-called spoiled princess?"
Alfred glanced at Samantha. "She's not spoiled at all."
Alfred's tone was sharp. Elowen noticed and cleared her throat. "Alfred, Samantha and I are friends now. You really wanna tick me off?"
Alfred was speechless. Women's friendships could be so unpredictable. Elowen seemed like trouble, and he needed to tread carefully to avoid any roadblocks in his love life.
Seeing Alfred silent, Elowen smirked. "Smart move. Now go grab the barbecue." She deliberately bossed Alfred around.
Samantha laughed. "You have a boyfriend, why are you bossing him around?"
Elowen shot back, "I can't boss him around? Then who can, you? Samantha, didn't you say you two are just friends? Doesn't look like it."
Samantha was speechless. She turned to Thaddeus. "Thaddeus, what do you see in her? She's so spoiled and willful, can you handle it?"
Women's fights were scarier than men's. Thaddeus knew this well and didn't want to get involved. He stood up. "Percival, Alfred, let's go grab some food."
"Sure." The two responded and followed Thaddeus to get barbecue supplies.
Samantha teased, "Look, your boyfriend ran off. Aren't you scary?"
Elowen snorted, "Scary or not, he won't leave me. Lykke, Thalassa, am I right?"
Lykke and Thalassa both laughed.
Thalassa said, "Yeah, whenever I argue with Percival, I go to Elowen. She gives advice, and Percival comes back apologizing. So Samantha, if Alfred ever messes with you, go to Elowen and let her handle it."
Samantha blurted out, "Alfred would never mess with me."
