Chapter 51 Sleep With the Handsome uncle
<Chapter>Chapter 51 Stay(1) </Chapter>
Nora walked into the Tranquil Bar.
Following the host’s guidance, she pushed open the door to a private room.
The room was filled with an inviting aroma of tea as Becky was busy pouring tea for Eleanor. Upon Nora's entrance, Becky's eyes instantly flashed with a thick veil of hostility.
Nora remained composed, turning her attention to Madam Gordon.
"I'm here, Madam Gordon."
Madam Gordon was already studying Nora closely, eyes wide with astonishment.
"Are you Nora?"
How could she look so different? The old Nora always hid behind thick black-rimmed glasses, looking plain and barely noticeable.
But now, she was radiant, her elegance set her apart.
No wonder her son was constantly at odds with Becky.
He must be regretting it now.
"Yes, I'm Nora. Did you need to see me for something, Madam Gordon?" asked Nora.
"Please, have a seat."
Madam Gordon masked her surprise and reverted to her haughty demeanor.
Silently, Nora took a seat across from her.
"Nora, let's be straightforward. Your marriage to my son is in name only. I want you both to finalize the divorce as soon as possible."
As expected, she was here to discuss the divorce.
Nora stayed quiet, curious to hear Madam Gordon's wise counsel.
"Nora, you've been avoiding us for four years, refusing to divorce. Are you still holding on to the unrealistic hope of being a part of my family?"
Madam Gordon's eyes held a challenge. "Even though you've prettied up, I'll have you know, the Gordon family will never accept a woman who has cheated as the future matriarch."
Who was cheating exactly?
Nora glanced at Madam Gordon, a mocking smile played at the corners of her lips.
"So, you’re saying I should just walk away, being labeled as a cheater and nothing else?"
Madam Gordon took a sip of her tea, her eyes reflecting a tinge of scorn.
"You're just after a settlement, don't you? How much do you want for the divorce?"
How much for a divorce?
Nora noted the disdain in Madam Gordon's gaze and let out a derisive snort.
Did she think Nora was here for the money?
She didn't need money!
But then again...
"Madam Gordon, are you saying you're willing to give me any amount I ask for? In that case, one billion."
Since they liked to use money to resolve issues, she'd set her price.
"A billion? Nora, you must be out of your mind!"
Becky’s voice rose, her pitch sharp as she turned to Madam Gordon, "Mom, you see? This woman won't agree to a divorce because she wants to extort us!"
Her tone was piercing, and Madam Gordon glanced at her, clearly displeased.
If it weren't for the fact that Becky had blessed her family with a grandson, she honestly wouldn't want to meddle.
Such pettiness, no wonder she captured her son's heart.
"Nora, Becky claimed you refused to divorce just for the money, and I didn't believe it. Seems I've thought too highly of you."
Madam Gordon eyed Nora, "You should be aware, in this marriage, even though my son has his faults, you are not innocent either. It's true that you've had three children with another man, isn't it?"
Upon hearing this, Nora couldn't help but retort, "Madam Gordon, have you ever asked your son why I ended up with three children?"
"I don't need to ask; I only look at the outcomes."
Madam Gordon continued, "Even if we have to go through the legal process for a divorce, you're the one at fault. My son could easily claim you were unfaithful first, which led him to Becky. But my son is kind-hearted, he never spread rumors about you, did he?"
Nora sneered lightly, "So, I should thank him for this? Madam Gordon, if you've called me here to discuss this matter, there's nothing more I need to say. You're free to proceed through the legal system."
As Nora stood up to leave, Madam Gordon slammed the table, "Nora, don't push it. I came to discuss the divorce amicably, are you really going to act like this?"
Nora faced her, "Am I the one overstepping, or are you? We're all a product of our parents. Is your son a precious gem while I'm just a weed to be trampled on?"
Her tone grew forceful, and Madam Gordon snapped, "Are you only willing to divorce for a billion dollars?"
Nora smirked coldly, "Madam Gordon, you don't have to waste your money. Just have your son and Becky publicly apologize to me!"
She didn't want their money, she wanted their apology!
"Nora, dream on! You're the one who was indecent, and now you're trying to extort us?"
Hearing that she might have to apologize to Nora made Becky furious.
"Fine, do as you wish."
Nora had no desire to waste more words with them and turned to leave.
"Nora, you stop right there!"
Madam Gordon shot up, her face a ghastly shade.
Nora ignored the outburst and quickened her pace toward the door.
But as her hand touched the doorknob, Becky's cries echoed from behind.
"Mom, Mom, what's wrong with you? Don't scare me!"
Nora paused mid-motion, an instinctive glance back revealed Madam Gordon collapsed on the floor, unconscious.
What happened?
Nora's brows knitted in concern, and she quickly turned back to check on Madam Gordon's condition.
Becky whirled around with a shrill cry, "Nora, you've killed my mother! Help, somebody help!"
Quickly, a waiter who heard the commotion pushed the door open and entered.
Upon seeing Eleanor unconscious and Nora rummaging around her chest, he turned pale with shock.
"What's happened to Madam Gordon? We need to get her to a hospital, now!"
"She's having a sudden stroke. Don't touch her just yet."
"Nora, what in the world are you doing? She's barely alive. Are you trying to finish her off?"
Becky grabbed Nora's wrist, yelling at the top of her lungs.
Nora's eyes were icy as she said firmly, "Let go! If you don't, and something happens to her, it's on you!"
Becky, feeling the force of Nora's authority, released her hold unconsciously.
Watching Nora begin to administer first aid, Becky's eyes flickered with uncertainty.
"Nora, let me tell you, if anything happens to my mother-in-law, neither Lucas nor I will let you get away with this!"
What was Nora up to?
She needed to call Lucas this instant, to tell Lucas that it was Nora's fault Eleanor was in this state.
It would be ideal if Madam Gordon was beyond help; Lucas would certainly hate Nora forever.
The thought stirred excitement in Becky, and she hurried outside to dial Lucas's number.
Meanwhile, Nora, having diagnosed Madam Gordon with a stroke, began treatment swiftly.
Minutes later, Eleanor exhaled a heavy breath and slowly regained consciousness.
"Madam Gordon's awake."
The waiter looked on, his face filled with joy.
Nora sighed in relief and seeing Madam Gordon close her eyes again, she said, "Now we can get her to the hospital."
"Why did Madam Gordon pass out again?" the waiter asked, anxiety etched on his face.
"She has a history of medical issues, and she needs thorough treatment."
Nora stood up, packing away her medical kit.
After Becky finished the call, she saw Madam Gordon's complexion improve slightly and was instantly filled with disappointment.
Why couldn't Madam Gordon just die?
"Nora, since you caused this, you're not going anywhere. You're coming to the hospital with me."
Nora glanced at Becky's hand gripping her wrist, "Let go. I can walk on my own."
