Chapter11 Touched his genitals
After reading for a while in his room, Aaron felt thirsty. His cup was empty, so he wheeled himself to the backyard lane to get water. That's when he saw Nora, seemingly restless in her sleep, lying on a lounge chair, enjoying the cool breeze.
Her eyelashes fluttered lightly. The breeze in the hallway was strong. Aaron's lips tightened as he returned to his room for a blanket. Despite her tough exterior, he relied on her for his care, and she needed to stay healthy.
Approaching the lounge chair, Aaron gently covered Nora with the blanket.
In her sleep, Nora was still trying to discern the man's face from that fateful night.
The clarity of the moment was startling, and the sight of his handsome face felt achingly familiar.
It was him!
Nora's eyes flew open, and for a split second, she couldn't tell if she was still ensnared in a dream or awake as Aaron's chiseled features loomed close.
"You awake?" Aaron asked as he noticed Nora's startled gaze fixed on him, raising an eyebrow inquisitively.
Nora's thoughts, once muddled, began to sharpen.
How could the man from four years ago be him?
Yet she had dreamt of him!
It must be because of his good looks.
Remembering the dream, her cheeks flushed with a warmth she wished she could dismiss.
How shamelessly she had cast this man as the object of her fantasies.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked, unease creeping in under his steady gaze.
Aaron narrowed his eyes and teased, "Nora, your face is all flushed. Did you have an inappropriate dream?"
Nora was speechless.
Why did this man have to be so annoying?
"Thomas, if you're that bored, I wouldn't mind you peeling some onions for me," Nora retorted.
Aaron was silent.
Was she getting angry out of embarrassment?
"So, why are you blushing? Did I guess right?"
Nora remained silent.
She had never met a man so infuriating!
Then, three little ones came down from upstairs.
"Mommy."
Their sweet, sleepy voices filled the air, their small faces still clouded with sleep.
Nora's heart softened as she went over to hug each of them, planting a kiss on their foreheads.
"Did you all wake up just now?"
"Yep."
The three answered in unison.
Samantha, spotting Aaron, ran over with a bright smile.
"Mr. Thomas, did you take a nap?"
Aaron's lips curved into a smile, "I slept too much in the morning, so no nap for me, just read a book for a bit."
"What book were you reading, Mr. Thomas?"
"It was a medical book your Mommy gave me."
"Do you understand Mommy's medical books?"
"Not really."
"You can always ask Mommy if you don't understand!"
Nora listened to their banter, glancing at Aaron.
Her daughter could talk his ear off normally, and sometimes even Nora found it a bit much, but Aaron seemed to handle it with remarkable patience.
Deciding to leave them to their chat, Nora went to take the herbs out to the front yard to dry in the sun.
"Mommy, we’ll help you," said the two brothers, eager to assist.
"Thanks."
Nora's gaze softened as she watched the brothers bustling about, a sight she had long grown accustomed to.
Aaron chatted with Samantha while observing the warm scene unfold before him, finding it both refreshing and heartwarming.
It was evident that this woman had raised her three little ones to be polite and sensible.
An afternoon sped by in the blink of an eye.
After dinner, Nora administered Aaron's medicine.
Aaron grimaced as he drank down a large gulp, nearly gagging.
"Why is the medicine so bitter today?"
"Thomas, good medicine always tastes bitter," Nora replied calmly.
Aaron asked, "Are you getting back at me?"
Because he had teased her that morning, it seemed she was now retaliating.
"A retaliation? I'm merely testing your endurance," Nora countered, raising an eyebrow.
The words sounded eerily familiar to Aaron.
It struck him that it was the same retort he had given her during the day after he had played a trick on her!
And yet she claimed it wasn't revenge!
"Hand me a piece of candy!"
"Eating candy at night will give you cavities. Don't you know that?" Nora chided.
Aaron muttered a complaint to himself.
Nora observed his dark eyes and flashed a smile.
"Are you cursing me in your mind? Go ahead, say it. It'll give me another chance to test your endurance tomorrow!"
Aaron was speechless.
Never mess with a woman!
