Chapter 146 Are You Attracted to Me?
The man before her had sharp, expressive brows and a handsomely familiar face.
Nora's eyes widened, her curiosity swiftly turning to surprise.
"Why is it you?" she blurted out.
It was Aaron!
What was he doing here?
And with a bouquet of roses in hand, no less!
Along with her surprise, Nora's brows knit together unconsciously. "What's going on? Why are you standing here?"
Aaron's eyes sparkled with mirth as he offered the roses. "Nora, I've been waiting for you."
He was waiting for her!
Nora stared at the huge bunch of roses, reflecting on the kids' enthusiasm, and was at a loss for words.
These mischievous kids were up to their antics again!
"Mr. Gordon, you're looking really sharp today," Samantha said with a twinkle in her eye.
"Thanks," Aaron replied with a soft smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes.
"Mom, Mr. Gordon brought you flowers. Go on and take them," urged Billy, noticing his mother had made no move to accept the gesture.
Alex didn't make a sound but kept an eye on Nora's reaction.
Nora gave the three kids a playful scowl and steadied Aaron instead of accepting the bouquet of roses.
"Where's Noe? Where's your wheelchair?" she inquired.
A slight smile played on Aaron's lips. "Noe went back. I haven't done my physical therapy today, so I'm considering this my session."
Nora felt a sudden urge to whisk the children away.
But the three kids had already stepped back.
"Mom," Alex chimed in, "the movie tickets were kind of late, and I could only get two, so you and Mr. Gordon should go."
"Mom, we'll go find Jenny and Mr. Hawk," said Billy.
"Mom, have a great date with Mr. Gordon, okay?" Samantha added their encouragement.
Nora stayed silent.
Just then, Edric pulled up in his car with Jenny.
"Aaron, you're on a date with Nora! All right then, enjoy your date. Jenny and I will get some practice in on being parents," he teased.
Jenny shot him a look but didn't bother to argue.
She glanced at Nora and hesitated, "Nora, have a good date! Don't worry about the kids."
While she was skeptical about Aaron, Jenny could see how much the three kids liked him, and that warranted him the chance to woo her friend.
Watching the others leave with smiles, Nora wanted to call them back.
"Aaron, I'm tired," Aaron said next to her.
Nora swallowed the words she had been about to say.
She felt his arm tighten around her waist as he enveloped her in a hug, and suddenly, she found the roses being pushed into her hand. Nora sniffed their fragrance, pressing her lips together in a silent question of what to say next.
Aaron smirked, saying nothing but pulling her towards the cinema at STUDIO CITY.
The place was bustling with people, mostly couples.
Nora, feeling the stares directed their way, asked irritably, "Whose idea was this?"
Aaron raised an eyebrow playfully, betraying his co-conspirators without shame. "The masterminds were the kids, and I was their accomplice."
After giving him a sharp look, Nora scoffed, "How honest of you, using the kids as a cover?"
Aaron wasn't put off but challenged her, "Would you prefer it if I were the mastermind?"
Stumped, Nora bit back her frustration, "I'd prefer if you didn't encourage my kids to play these kinds of childish games in the future."
Aaron glanced at her, his voice low and enticing, "Nora, don't be so serious. A little childishness can make life happier."
The casual way he said "Nora" sounded deeply alluring.
Nora felt a ripple in her heart, struggling to suppress the emotions as her lips parted, temporarily lost for words.
Aaron leaned on her as a crutch and made it to the ticket machine to get their tickets.
When they reached the snack counter selling popcorn and drinks, he asked, "Want to get something to eat or drink? I'll go buy it."
Nora snapped back to reality, "No, I'm not hungry."
"The movie is going to be long. We should get something," Aaron said. He let go of Nora, ready to queue up for snacks.
Nora's delicate eyebrows furrowed, and she quickly supported him, "Your leg is injured. Go sit down. I'll buy it."
Aaron raised an eyebrow, but seeing she was already helping him to the seats, he didn't insist further.
He sat quietly and waited while she went to buy the snacks.
Nora dashed to the line, looking at the long queue and feeling a bit silly.
How had she been talked into this, and why was she even queuing for snacks? Was this a date?
No, she decided to treat it as if she were accompanying her boss to a movie. It was a job obligation.
Nora mentally fortified herself, and when she returned with two drinks and a bucket of popcorn, she saw two young girls approaching Aaron, coyly asking for his contact information.
Instinctively, Nora's elegant eyebrows knitted together, cursing Aaron in her mind.
On the seat, Aaron was cold-faced as he was being hit on.
Just as he was about to dismiss the two, he saw Nora approaching.
His eyes flickered with intrigue, and he flashed a half-smile at the girls, "Sorry, my girlfriend's here. She gets really jealous. If she sees you chatting me up, I'll be punished when we get home."
Nora remained silent.
She came to the seat and set the snacks on the table, "Ladies, I'm not his girlfriend. Please, continue."
Aaron chuckled lightly, "See, my girlfriend is already upset."
The two girls turned their heads to look at Nora's expressionless face, sizing her up.
"She doesn't even look that special. Dude, she's so jealous. She's like a shrew! Break up with her. You deserve someone better."
"Yeah, I'm prettier and younger than her. You'll be happier with me," the girls clamored, one after the other.
Aaron slowly stood up, wrapping an arm around Nora, "Sorry, but I like her just the way she is."
Nora stayed quiet, letting Aaron use her as a shield.
"But hey, don't go! Can we add each other on WhatsApp at least?" one of the girls advanced, attempting to push past Nora.
Aaron's expression turned stern, "Step back."
When he wore a stern expression, he exuded the unmistakable aura of a leader.
The two girls immediately pouted and muttered something about him being fierce before sheepishly walking away.
Nora shot him a glance, "Mr. Gordon, you're quite popular."
Aaron looked at her pretty face, his eyes deeply set, "Nora, are you falling for me?"
Nora felt a flutter in her heart, "Mr. Gordon, I've made myself clear."
"Let's talk after the movie."
Aaron didn't wait for her to finish and cut her off, shoving the bouquet of roses he had set on the table back into her hands.
Nora's half-spoken words were stuck in her throat, and in the end, she said nothing, reluctantly holding the bouquet and popcorn as Aaron wrapped his arm around her, and they entered the theater.
They found their seats, and Nora noticed they were in the very last row.
Love seats, no less!
Couples surrounded them, each pair entwined and whispering sweet nothings to each other.
The scene made her decidedly uncomfortable.
'I really put too much trust in those kids! How did they manage to talk me into this movie?'
