Chapter 598 Treating Her as the Closest Person
Evella controlled the almost upturned corners of her mouth, saying deliberately, "You, a big man, are scared of a small rabbit. You should be embarrassed!"
Being held by her slender arms around his waist, Howard felt it was worth enduring her mockery.
He said, "Anyway, it's dark now; even if I feel embarrassed, no one else can see it."
Evella tilted her head to look at him, saying, "But I saw it."
Howard glanced sideways and said, "I've heard a saying that a person only shows their worst side in front of the closest person. Evella, have you felt honored to see my worst side?"
In other words, Howard treated her as the closest person!
Howard was really good at sweet talk tonight.
A warm flow surged in Evella's heart, but she said arrogantly, "Why should I feel honored? I don't have a masochistic tendency."
Howard raised an eyebrow and said with a smile, "Alright, I saw your worst side before, and I feel honored."
Upon hearing this, Evella furrowed her brow, "When did you see my worst side?"
Howard asked, "Do you really want me to say it?"
"Well, go ahead and say it!" Evella was getting impatient.
"Alright, I'll say it."
Howard paused, "First of all, I've seen you when you're drunk and acting crazy. Has anyone else seen you like that?"
Evella choked slightly, her eyes flickering.
It seemed that no one else had.
"Secondly, the moment you got scared, you threw yourself at me. I doubt anyone else has seen you do that either."
At his words, Evella bit her lip without saying a word.
"If these are not even your worst side, then tell me, have you been in any situations worse than these two?" Howard asked.
Evella bit her lip, surprisingly speechless.
Howard smiled. "Of course, you don't need to be embarrassed because I am your boyfriend; I am your closest person."
Evella fell silent.
Going around in circles, Howard was still her boyfriend.
Evella didn't want to speak because she found that she couldn't argue with him.
Howard saw her silent and asked, "Tired?"
"Not really."
"Really not?"
Evella glanced at him and said, "If I said I was tired, could you drive the car up?"
Howard stopped and then crouched down, saying, "The car can't go up, but I can be your wheel and carry you up."
Howard's back muscles were very strong, and Evella couldn't help but curl her lips.
She said, "I don't need your help, I'm not that weak. Get up, let's go."
Howard stood up and stared at her, saying, "Really? Aren't you tired?"
Evella shook her head and said, "I said I'm not that weak."
In the night, the faint moonlight fell on their heads, illuminating their faces.
Howard looked at Evella intently, his gaze falling on her red lips, unable to resist the urge to kiss her.
Evella sensed his intention, her heart pounding. She subconsciously held her breath, closing her eyes as Howard approached, unknowingly.
At that moment, a sound broke the ambiguous atmosphere.
Evella was startled and suddenly threw herself into Howard's arms, shouting, "Howard, what was that again?"
Why did Evella feel like the sound was coming from under her feet?
Howard's Adam's apple rolled; he felt embarrassed and amused.
He held Evella, patting her back gently, saying, "It's my stomach growling."
He was hungry.
He hadn't had dinner tonight, and after all the commotion, his stomach was protesting.
Evella looked up at the handsome man, amused and heartbroken.
It turned out it was Howard's stomach growling!
She thought it was some wild animal again.
"Haven't you had dinner yet?" she asked.
Howard held his stomach, saying, "Yes, I was worried about you, so I didn't feel like eating."
Because he was worried about her, he lost his appetite.
Evella felt a slight flutter in her heart.
She whispered, "I'm all grown up; there's nothing to worry about."
Howard looked at her and said, "You've only met Richard twice and already made him your godfather. How can I not worry?"
Evella bit her lip and said, "I've said it, he is a good person."
Howard, seeing her still defending Richard, said angrily, "Bad people don't have 'bad' written on their faces."
Evella frowned slightly and said, "How many times do I have to say it? My godfather is not a bad person."
Seeing her stubborn look, Howard held back his words, saying, "Got it. Richard is not a bad person; he's your protector. Let's go."
He didn't want to have any unpleasantness with Evella because of Richard.
He'd better finish the romantic date first.
"Shall we go back? Aren't you hungry?" Evella said.
"Skipping one meal won't kill me," Howard replied.
Evella frowned and said, "But you might get a stomachache from hunger."
Howard glanced at her, saying, "Are you worried about me?"
Evella's eyes flickered, saying arrogantly, "I'm not."
Howard said, "Well then if I get a stomachache from hunger, it has nothing to do with you."
Evella hesitated for a moment, unable to respond.
Howard glanced at her and said, "Or are you afraid of marrying someone with health issues in the future?"
Evella was speechless, pulling her hand away from his.
She said, "Howard, don't be childish. If you don't take care of your body, you will have to suffer the pain of illness in the future."
With that, she quickly ran up the hill.
Howard chuckled, "I'm hungry. I can't run fast, so wait for me."
Evella looked back at him, saying, "Howard, you're so useless, hurry up!"
Howard watched her slender and agile figure, raised his eyebrows, and teased, "Watch out for snakes!"
"Howard!" Evella turned back and ran towards him, her big eyes staring at Howard.
Howard chuckled, reached out, and held her hand. "I told you to wait for me, right?"
Evella bit her lip, annoyed but with a slight smile at the corner of her mouth.
Hand in hand, the two finally reached the mountaintop.
The wind was gentle at this moment, the sky dotted with stars, dreamlike.
Evella looked up, took a deep breath, and sighed. "What a beautiful night view!"
Howard glanced at her, worried she might catch a cold, so he took off his coat and draped it over her.
Evella adjusted her clothes without making a fuss, looked at the starry sky, and asked, "When will there be a meteor shower?"
Howard also looked at the sky and replied, "Not sure, let's wait."
As he spoke, his stomach made a sound again.
Howard felt embarrassed, covering his stomach and swallowing saliva.
Because the timing of surgeries was uncertain, he had been hungry before, but today he seemed starving.
Probably because he had just climbed the mountain and used up his energy.
Evella naturally heard it.
She said, "Howard, I'm done watching. Let's go back."
"It's okay, I can hold on," Howard said.
Evella frowned slightly and said, "But if you wait for the meteor shower on an empty stomach, I'll worry."
Howard looked at her and said, "Why? You don't like me anyway. You can just ignore me."
