Chapter 999 Want to Take Millie Away
Nora chuckled. "Alright, that's enough from you."
She thought, 'Showing off? Not worried about being laughed at?'
"It's cool, we're all friends here. No need to worry about that." Aaron wrapped his arm around Nora's waist, knowing exactly what she was thinking.
Everyone laughed.
Nora glanced at Jasmine, who was standing nearby with a bright smile, looking well. James, next to her, was as quiet as ever.
She thought, 'Wonder how things are going between them. Hope it works out.'
Nora then turned to Seraphina. "Seraphina, where's Noe?"
Seraphina replied, "Mrs. Gordon, he's busy with work."
Noe was handling all the Gordon Group business here, so he was swamped.
Nora nodded. "Tell him to take care of his health and eat well."
She smiled meaningfully, making Seraphina a bit embarrassed.
Seraphina said, "I will."
Just then, Aisha came out of the kitchen. "Dinner's ready."
The kids were playing upstairs, so Aisha asked the servants to call them down.
Soon, Millie, Billy, and Samantha came down.
Millie was thrilled to see Samantha and Billy, holding their hands and chatting away.
"I wish Billy could go to school with me. It'd definitely shut Randall up."
Billy caught on. "Who's Randall?"
"He's a classmate, two grades above me," Millie replied.
"Why do you want him to shut up?" Billy asked.
Millie glanced at Hugo and shook her head. "It's nothing, he's just noisy."
Billy frowned, sensing there was more to it.
Hugo, sipping soup, overheard. "Randall Bandelu?"
Millie nodded and started eating.
"Who's he?" Nora asked, curious.
Hugo paused. "Technically, he's Millie's relative."
'So, he is a relative.'James sensed something, put down his utensils, and looked serious. "Millie, did Randall bully you?"
Millie hung her head, not speaking. Her silence said it all.
James got anxious. "Speak up!"
His voice got louder, sounding like a scolding.
Millie shivered, pouted, and started crying.
Jasmine frowned. "Why are you yelling at her?"
James felt a bit wronged and explained softly, "I wasn't yelling, just anxious."
"Even if you're anxious, don't be so loud."
Jasmine put down her utensils and comforted Millie. "Millie, don't cry. James wasn't yelling at you, he just had a bad attitude. How about I scold him for you later?"
Millie's sobbing stopped, and she gently held Jasmine's hand. "Jasmine, don't scold James. He cares about me."
Jasmine smiled and wiped her tears. "Alright, I won't scold him. I'll listen to you."
Millie smiled through her tears.
Jasmine coaxed her to continue eating.
James sighed in relief. "Millie." He wanted to ask more, but Jasmine stopped him with a look. "Millie, let's eat first. We can talk after dinner."
"Okay." Millie obediently ate.
James swallowed his words and fell silent again.
Nora watched the whole scene, a spark of intrigue in her eyes. She thought, 'They really look like a family. They seem pretty good at parenting.Jasmine's so patient with Millie.
Too bad Jasmine's just following Hugo's orders. And Randall must've said something nasty to Millie.Otherwise, she wouldn't be like this.If that's the case, will Millie want to leave? If she wants to go back with them, will Hugo agree? If Hugo doesn't agree, then what?'
During dinner, Nora's mind was racing, killing her appetite.
After dinner, Millie seemed to forget her earlier unhappiness and ran to the yard to play with Billy and Samantha.
Nora watched the kids and decided not to push the issue for now.
James was more anxious, wanting to ask Millie, but Jasmine stopped him. "Where are you going?"
"I need to find out if Randall bullied Millie."
Jasmine said, "Kids have little arguments all the time. Don't make a big deal out of it."
James said, "But I need to know why they argued."
Jasmine looked at the kids playing. "Look, Millie is fine now, isn't she?"
James frowned. "You're just ignoring the problem."
Seeing them about to argue, Nora quickly intervened. "Alright, James, don't worry. Jasmine's right, kids argue. And with Billy around, I'm sure he'll find out what happened."
With Nora's words, James stayed quiet.
Listening to Millie and Samantha's giggles, James just stood nearby, quietly watching them play.
At that moment, James had the same thought as Nora. 'Randall must've said something nasty to Millie.'
He wanted to take Millie away from here, not letting her suffer.
James had been patiently staying here, hoping to win Jasmine over, hoping she'd grow more attached to him. He could feel her paying more attention to him.
He wanted to leave now, not sure whether Jasmine would go with him. He was running out of patience. He wanted to take Millie away immediately.
In the yard, Billy watched Millie and Samantha play.
When they got tired and rested, he asked Millie, "Millie, did Randall bully you?"
The smile on Millie's face faded. She looked around and moved closer to him, a bit scared. "Randall keeps scaring me."
Billy frowned. "What does he scare you with?"
Millie gathered her courage and whispered, "He said Hugo's house is haunted."
Billy was speechless. "Nonsense! How can you believe that? Oh, I forgot, you're just a gullible kid."
Millie hung her head, fiddling with her thumbs, not speaking.
Hearing Millie mention ghosts, Samantha got a bit scared and moved closer to Billy. Everyone feared the unknown.
Samantha, though scared, couldn't help but be curious. She blinked her big eyes and asked, "Millie, why did he say there are ghosts here?"
Millie finally said, "He said Stov was killed by Emmeline. Now that I'm living here, Emmeline's ghost has come to find me, and my dad has come to seek revenge on her."
