Chapter 174 He's Thoughtful

Upon hearing Edric's query, Samantha tilted her head to one side, her voice sweet and childlike as she asked, "Can you do braids?"

Edric's eyebrow arched in response. "Nope, but I can perform magic tricks."

Samantha's large eyes sparkled with interest. "Then show me a magic trick tomorrow, and I'll let you have breakfast."

Edric reached out to pinch her soft cheek, a smile playing on his lips. "Deal."

This exchange did not go unnoticed. Jenny nudged Nora, who was standing beside her, with her elbow. "These guys are really peas in a pod, always sweet-talking kids."

Nora nodded in complete agreement, her eyes reflecting the same sentiment.

"Granny, thanks for your hospitality today. See you tomorrow," Aaron bid farewell to Carter, whom he now affectionately addressed as Granny, a departure from the more formal title he had previously used.

Carter responded with a nod and a warm smile. "All right, come over for breakfast tomorrow."

"Will do," Aaron replied, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

From the sidelines, Edric chimed in, "What about me, Granny?"

"You too."

"Thanks, Granny."

Satisfied, Edric's gaze shifted to Jenny, and he graced her with a charming smile.

Jenny rolled her eyes in response, choosing to ignore him. However, Aaron wheeled closer in her direction.

"Jenny."

Jenny was taken aback, not expecting Aaron to call her. "What's up?"

Aaron looked at her, his gaze steady. "If I'm lucky enough to marry Nora someday, I want you to be my bridesmaid." With that, he rolled away.

Jenny stood there, perplexed, and a beat too late, she turned to Nora. "Nora, what did he mean by that?"

Nora replied with a smile, "It means you're one of the most important people to me, and he's trying to get on your good side." He probably figured he needed to win over her best friend so she wouldn't badmouth him behind his back.

"Oh, I see. He's trying to make sure I don't oppose you two being together, right?"

Jenny finally understood and gave Nora a teasing wink. "Do you think he'd agree if I asked for something outrageous?"

Nora, speechless, playfully smacked her on the head. "What are you thinking?"

Jenny cradled her head mockingly. "What's the matter, can't I mention him? You're defending him already, and you're not even married yet?"

"Do I?"

"You do!"

The next morning, Aaron arrived. Following him were Noe, a housekeeper, and a chauffeur.

"Grandma, this is Rebecca, and this is Brian. I've checked them out. They're trustworthy," Aaron introduced the two to Carter.

Rebecca and Brian both exhibited respectful demeanors.

"And a chauffeur, too!" Carter glanced at Nora with a chuckling smile.

Nora was slightly puzzled. "Mr. Gordon, I only requested a housekeeper. Do we really need a chauffeur?"

Aaron responded, "Nora, once you're at work and the kids are at school, it'll be boring for grandma to be cooped up at home all day. She'll need to get out for a bit. How's she gonna do that if you're not around?"

'He's thought of everything, hasn't he?' Nora mused skeptically, then realized she didn't have a car for the chauffeur to drive.

"Don't worry about the car. My garage is overflowing with them. Let's give Brian some practice."

It was as if Aaron could read Nora's mind.
Nora’s lips formed a thin line as she contemplated, a moment of silence passing before she finally spoke. "Alright, we can pretend it's a rental. I'll take care of the rental and fuel costs."

Aaron found the notion amusing, a silent question echoing in his mind, 'Like she needs the money?' He kept his amusement hidden, responding with a nonchalant, "Whatever suits you." He knew he could always find other ways to assist her.

Nora made the decision to retain both employees, engaging them in a discussion about salary and benefits. They both agreed that any amount would suffice. Prior to their arrival, Aaron had assured them that as long as they performed their duties well, they would not be shortchanged. In essence, apart from the payment from Nora, they would also receive additional bonuses from Aaron.

Initially, they had been reluctant to be stationed here, but Aaron's assurance had eased their apprehension. In fact, they were more than just relieved - they were thrilled to have been personally selected by Aaron. It was evident that he held this place in high regard, and only his trusted associates would be assigned here.

"I'll go by the going rate then," Nora declared, her lips curving into a warm smile.

"Sounds good," they both agreed, and Nora proceeded to finalize the contracts with them.

"Mr. Gordon, please do my hair!" Samantha's sweet, childlike voice echoed as she descended the stairs, her fingers running through her tousled hair.

"Sure thing," Aaron responded, a soft chuckle escaping his lips as Samantha approached. He took the hairbrush from her and skillfully began to braid her hair.

Carter observed the scene, her approval of Aaron growing with each passing moment. He not only managed her schedule flawlessly but could also braid Samantha's hair? And he was incredibly good at it! It was clear that Aaron harbored a genuine affection for his granddaughter. It was true what they say, if you love someone, you'll go the extra mile for everyone they love.

Edric arrived just in time to see Samantha's pigtails neatly tied. She turned to him, her laughter ringing out as she called, "Edric, do some magic for me!"

"You got it!" Edric responded cheerily, pulling a red handkerchief from his pocket. He began chanting mock spells and blowing on the fabric, transforming it into a rose within moments.

"Wow, you're amazing, Edric!" Samantha exclaimed, her hands clapping together in awe.

Edric gave a mischievous smile, pulling another rose from the first one. "One for you and one for grandma."

"Thank you, Edric!" Samantha accepted the rose with a gleeful expression.

"I've got one too!" Carter chimed in, her face beaming with joy.

Billy watched the scene with interest, his eyes shining. "Edric, how does that trick work? Can you teach me?"

Edric raised an eyebrow in a teasing manner. "You want to learn? I'll teach you, but first, you've got to start calling me 'uncle.'"

Billy hesitated, glancing at Jenny who was standing behind him. Jenny shot Edric a glare, her voice laced with annoyance. "Edric, is this really amusing to you?"

"Absolutely! Jenny, you have no idea how important a title is to me," Edric replied, his laughter charming and infectious.

As Billy continued to hesitate, Alex interjected with a tone of disdain, "Edric, I've already spotted the secret. It's just a simple sleight of hand."

"Oh really?" Edric raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Do tell me, how did I pull it off?"

Alex began to explain, "You hid the rose by your forearm and covered it with the handkerchief so we couldn't see. Then you pretended to blow on it and 'voila,' one rose becomes two – simple as that."

Edric couldn't help but want to applaud. 'Alex is like a mini-Aaron! Sharp as a tack!'

"So that's how it's done?" Billy caught on quickly. "I don't need your lesson now, Edric. You can keep wanting to be our 'uncle.' Just wait on that."

Edric remained silent, a thought crossing his mind, 'Alex and Billy, too smart for their own good.' He decided that he'd stick to spoiling Samantha instead. Sooner or later, she was bound to call him 'uncle.'
