Chapter 986 You Two Were Not Suitable for Each Other

"Mom, this is Gabriella," Johnnie said.

"Hi, Vilma, I'm Johnnie's girlfriend, Gabriella," she added, making sure to clarify.

Vilma gave her a once-over, thinking she was too stunning.

Gabriella's looks weren't Vilma's usual taste, but since she was Johnnie's girlfriend, Vilma made an exception.

Vilma smiled and nodded. "Johnnie's never had a girlfriend. His dad and I thought he'd stay single forever. We didn't expect him to find someone so beautiful."

Vilma's gentle demeanor made Gabriella like her.

"Thanks for the compliment, Vilma."

Vilma smiled and asked, "Where are you from? Your name doesn't sound like you're from Chrisland."

As parents, they naturally cared about their child's partner's background.

"I'm from Hchilia, but I'm a Chrisland native," Gabriella replied.

"Oh, what do you do? How did you meet Johnnie?" Vilma asked.

Gabriella glanced at Johnnie. "I'm a client of Johnnie's company."

Vilma's smile faltered. "So you're in business?"

"Sort of."

"Oh, a businesswoman."

Vilma's interest waned. She and Randy thought Johnnie should find someone with a stable job. Businesswomen like Gabriella often had to socialize with men, which Vilma didn't like for a daughter-in-law. Plus, Gabriella's looks made her even less appealing to Vilma. Growing up in Hchilia, Gabriella was likely popular with men, and Hchilia's open culture made Vilma worry about her private life.

When Gabriella stepped out to make a call, Vilma quickly talked to Johnnie.

"Johnnie, how long have you been dating?"

"Not long," he replied.

"Do you like her a lot?" Vilma asked.

Johnnie paused. "Mom, what are you getting at?"

Vilma said, "I don't think you two are a good match. If your feelings aren't deep, you should break up."

Johnnie's expression didn't change much. "Why aren't we suitable?"

Vilma said, "Look at her. She's beautiful, successful, and from Hchilia. She must have interacted with many men. Are you sure she likes you and isn't just looking for a reliable man to marry because she's at that age?"

Randy chimed in, "I agree with your mom. I don't think you two are suitable. You should break up sooner rather than later."

Johnnie felt a bit helpless. He understood their concerns. Gabriella's looks and outgoing nature could be misunderstood. They thought she was too beautiful and assertive for an ordinary man. But after getting to know her, Johnnie found Gabriella wasn't as bad as they imagined. In their relationship, it wasn't clear who had the upper hand. After all, he was the one who first suggested breaking up.

Gabriella was the one who called him back, practically making him her boyfriend or even her servant! When Susan showed up, it was Gabriella who got jealous. So if they did get married, he figured he could handle her.

"Mom, Dad, we've only been dating a short time. Let's not jump to conclusions. Let's see how things go."

Randy said, "Johnnie, you're not getting any younger. You should date with marriage in mind, not waste time."

Vilma nodded in agreement.

Johnnie paused. "Mom, Dad, so far, only Gabriella has made me feel something. I want to give it a try with her."

Randy frowned. "Do you know about her past? What if she's had many boyfriends and is just playing with you?"

Johnnie smirked. "Dad, relationships are mutual. If she's playing with me, then I'm playing with her too, right?"

He added bluntly, "Besides, she's a woman, I'm a man. In these matters, it's always the woman who loses out."

Randy was speechless, staring at Johnnie. He always thought Johnnie was honest and simple, but his words shattered that perception. Johnnie wasn't as weak as he seemed.

Randy and Vilma wanted to say more, but Gabriella came back from her call, so they stopped talking. Gabriella, being savvy from the business world, noticed something but didn't mind, knowing Randy and Vilma probably didn't like her.

In the evening, Johnnie and Gabriella went to buy food for Randy and Vilma. Susan still came by.

"Vilma, are you awake?"

"Oh, Susan, you're here!"

Vilma had just taken a nap and was in good spirits. She greeted warmly, "I heard from Randy that I owe you a great favor. Otherwise, I might not have made it."

Susan smiled. "Vilma, no need to be so polite. If you really want to thank me, just cook me a few good meals when you get better."

"Of course," Vilma quickly agreed.

Susan looked around. "Did Johnnie leave?"

"No, he went to buy food for us."

"Susan, have a seat."

Randy saw Vilma's medicine was almost finished and pressed the bell. A nurse came to remove Vilma's IV.

"Let me do it," Susan said, skillfully removing the IV.

Vilma watched, very satisfied with Susan. She shared Randy's thoughts. A girl like Susan would be reassuring to have at home.

After removing the IV, Vilma asked, "Susan, do you have a boyfriend?"

"Not yet."

"What kind of man do you like? How about Johnnie?" Vilma asked directly.

Susan blushed. "Johnnie is a good man, but he has a girlfriend."

Vilma and Randy exchanged a glance. "But we don't approve of Gabriella."

"Yes, we think Gabriella isn't suitable to be Johnnie's wife," Randy agreed.

Vilma held Susan's hand. "Susan, listen to me. Johnnie has always been obedient. If you like him, just wait patiently. We'll work on him."

Susan was thrilled inside but kept a calm face, remaining silent.
