Chapter 230 She Was Like a Woman of Ill Repute
Baldwin walked Nora to the door. "Nora, same time tomorrow?" he asked.
"If nothing special comes up, then it's the same time," she replied.
Baldwin's eyes softened, "Nora, thanks for playing cards with my mom today. She seemed very happy."
Nora laughed, "No need to thank me. I had fun too, especially since I left with a full pocket, didn't I?"
Baldwin, knowing she was referring to the money she had won from them, smiled even more.
"Nora, get in the car." Frederick interrupted their gaze and opened the rear car door for Nora.
She responded with a nod, got into the car, waved goodbye to Baldwin, and said, "Take care on your way."
"Drive safely," Baldwin advised, watching the car drive away, his smile fading slightly. It was all supposed to be an act, but it unexpectedly started to feel real. This woman had such charisma, a sort of magic that drew people in!
At Jacob's house, Aaron's handsome face was clouded over, his presence emitting his displeasure. He could tell that Nora was currently with Baldwin. They could be doing anything together.
Had Nora forgotten his words to stay away from Baldwin? At this moment, he was eager to confront her and ask what exactly she was doing with Baldwin.
Seeing Jacob still discussing math problems with the kids, he managed to suppress the icy chill and said, "Grandpa, it's getting late. Their parents will start worrying. I should take them home."
Jacob was reluctant to let the three kids go.
He found himself wishing they could just stay with him. He knew, however, that it was not realistic and reluctantly agreed.
"Alex, Billy, and Samantha take all these snacks back with you, and come over to play at my place tomorrow," he instructed the housekeeper to pack all the snacks for the three kids to take with them.
The three children exchanged glances. They all felt a fondness for Jacob, but the thought of how he didn't seem to like their mom kept them from saying anything.
Alex, with his bright black eyes, spoke up, "We won't come to play tomorrow. Your house is too wealthy, and if we keep coming over, people are going to say we're just trying to rub shoulders with riches."
At first, Jacob was taken aback by Alex's words, but he quickly burst into laughter. "Alex, you guys are so young. You're thinking too far ahead."
Alex's little face remained serious. "Of course, we don't have that intention, but others will think our mom is using us to climb the social ladder."
Jacob was impressed by the child's precocious wisdom. "Who dares to say that can come to me directly! Besides, even if you did come here to gain connections with the powerful, I'm happy to have you. Who would question it?"
Alex said nothing more, but he hoped Jacob would remember his own words and not hold any disdain for their mom in the future.
After bidding farewell to Jacob, the three kids got into the car. Noe started the vehicle, and they drove away from Jacob's house.
Aaron, watching from the rearview mirror, saw Jacob stand there until his figure shrank to a mere dot. He truly didn't want the kids to leave!
Aaron's lips curled into a small smile as he asked the children, "Did you have fun today?"
Alex and Billy glanced at him but remained silent. Samantha, with her big eyes blinking, replied, "Half happy, half not."
Aaron's brows rose curiously. "Let's hear it, why the unhappiness?"
Samantha questioned, "Dad, why did you pretend not to know us today? Is it because Jacob doesn't like Mom and doesn't approve of you being together?"
Both Alex and Billy nodded in agreement, with Billy adding, "Yeah, we could tell Jacob looks down on our mom."
Aaron smiled, "He's just a bit old-fashioned, and since he's never really interacted with your mom, that's why he behaves that way."
Alex thought for a moment, "So if Jacob just spends some time with Mom, he might change his attitude toward her?"
Aaron lifted an eyebrow slightly, "They certainly need to meet, but it's not the right time yet. You should win Jacob's affection first, get him to care deeply enough, and then reveal your identities."
After all, even though Jacob seemed to like the kids quite a bit, this was just the beginning, and their emotional bond wasn't deeply rooted yet.
The bond among them was set to further deepen. When the time was right, the truth about Nora's relationship with her children would be revealed. Jacob, no matter what his feelings toward Nora may be, would surely accept her for the sake of the children.
Alex snorted with a certain dismissive pride. "Mr. Gordon, we don't need to curry favor with Jacob. Our mom is wonderful, and she doesn't need to please anyone." Billy and Samantha nodded in agreement.
Aaron's eyebrows lifted slightly. "You're right. But you all want your mom to be happy, don't you? Your mother is deeply in love with me, and only I can give her the happiness she deserves."
"She said she'd marry me only if she got my family's approval. Don't you want to see your mom married soon? Wouldn't you like to call me Dad openly and proudly?" His words were persuasive and struck a chord with the kids.
After exchanging glances, the children seemed to agree.
Finally, Alex asked, "So, should we tell Mom about meeting Jacob today when we get home?" He had been successfully brainwashed.
Aaron's lips curved into a half-smile. "No need, it's our secret."
Nora didn't need to know. She just had to wait to marry him. The car sped along and eventually arrived at the Smith family mansion.
Nora had just gotten home not long ago. She was surprised when Granny mentioned the kids had been over at Jacob's place.
Had Jacob taken a sudden liking to the three children? The thought was fleeting as she heard the car engine outside. They were back.
Discarding her stray thoughts, Nora welcomed them out. "Alex, Billy, Samantha."
"Mom!" the children called out with their sweet voices.
Nora patted their heads. "Did you have fun at Jacob's?"
Looking at each other, Alex pointed at the bags Nora was holding. "Jacob gave us lots of treats to bring back."
Nora chuckled softly.
Though charming, this was a first for the kids. 'Probably a lonely old man with too much time,' she thought to herself, casting a glance at Aaron.
His face was unreadable. Knowing him well enough by now, Nora sensed Aaron's mood wasn't the best, which made her feel a bit guilty.
She told the kids to go upstairs and take a bath, and Rebecca followed them. Carter also retired to his room.
Nora turned to Aaron. "Did you go pick up the kids?"
Aaron glanced at her impassively. "Who else would you expect to?"
Nora was taken aback. His tone suggested she was a neglectful woman.
