Chapter 90 Won't Leave Him Behind

While listening to Aaron's phone call with Edric, Nora's frantic heart began to calm down.

After a moment, she took out her phone and dialed a number. The call connected quickly, and an elderly, reverent voice came through, "Nora."

"Mr. Wyat, I'm on my way to Bescosarst, and it looks like I got some unwelcome company on my tail. Can you send some help?" she asked.

She was unsure who was in the cars behind them but had a bad feeling about it.

Mr. Wyat was her only link in the world.
So, she put a little edge in her voice, hoping to spur him into swift action.

"Who dares to trouble my lifesaver? Nora, don't be afraid. Tell me your location, and I'll send people right away."

"Thank you. I'll send you my location now!" Nora gratefully ended the call and sent her live location to Mr. Wyat.

Aaron watched her for a moment, his lips parting as if he was about to say something.

After sending the message, she noticed Aaron's hesitance and said, "Thomas, don't fault me for meddling. More backup we got, better chance we survive."

Aaron was used to being the boss, thinking everyone should stay put under his watch.

He had always been tense and brooding.

But now, he found himself unexpectedly touched.

She was like a beacon of light that he yearned to cling to.
Frederick floored the gas pedal, the car roaring down the back roads.

The two vehicles trailing them couldn't flank; they were stuck tailing behind.

Suddenly, one of them sped up, ramming into Aaron's car.

The car shuddered uncontrollably. Aaron tightened his hold on Nora, shielding her from the impact against the seats in front.

Nora's heartbeat raced, gripping Aaron's shirt in silence.

She had to stay calm; she couldn't afford to fall apart.

"Mr. Gordon, for your protection." Frederick handed a dagger to him.

Aaron hesitated for a split second before giving it to Nora.

"Takeit, just in case."

Nora blinked in surprise, returning the dagger to him. "I don't need it; I have this."

She produced a long silver hairpin.

A flicker of recognition crossed Aaron's eyes as he recalled how Nora had once subdued a villain with that hairpin. He didn't insist further.

Frederick pushed the car to its limits. They were approaching a curve when the car behind seized the moment, slamming into them again.

As they took the turn, the most vulnerable moment, another hit, sent the car spiraling out of control towards the roadside, crashing into a large oak.

With a loud bang, the vehicle came to a stop.

"Mr. Gordon, Nora, are you guys okay?"

Frederick's forehead knocked against the steering wheel, and he quickly turned back with concern.

Aaron held Nora close, himself slamming against the front seat.

He glanced down at her with worry. "Are you hurt?"

Nora wasn't hurt, just slightly breathless from Aaron's tight embrace.

She squirmed a bit, making him ease his grip. "I'm fine. What about you?"

"I'll make it."

Aaron spoke shortly, his focus shifting to the men clad in black approaching with iron rods. His pupils narrowed.

"Frederick, when it goes down, forget about me. Find a way to get Nora out."

He couldn't let Nora get dragged into his mess.

Frederick hesitated briefly, but he followed Aaron's lead, years of training kicking in.

"Mr. Gordon, I'll jump out first and deal with them."

As Frederick moved out of the car, Aaron locked the doors, his expression hardening.

Nora's heart raced as she witnessed Frederick's showdown with the attackers.

“Thomas, what about you? Aren't you going to run?”

Aaron glanced at her, "I'll be okay. No matter how bad it gets, you're there to patch me up.”

Even now, he could crack a joke.
Nora swallowed hard, recalling Aaron's recent kindness.

"Thomas, I'm not leaving without you. If we go, we go together."

Fear gripped her, but she couldn't bear the thought of leaving him behind!

Aaron's eyes filled with a passionate intensity as he gazed at her.

"Nora, I can't walk. If help doesn't come in time, I'll just be waiting to die in this car. Do you really want to die here with me? Don't you care about our kids?"

Nora's lips pressed together firmly, her resolve unmistakable, "Of course, I care about the kids, but I'm not leaving you behind."

She wouldn't leave him. Such simple words, yet they struck a chord in his heart, sparking a sudden, deep affection for her.

Aaron, with a steady gaze, pulled her into his embrace, his voice slightly hoarse.

"Nora, I swear I won't let anything happen to you!"

As Nora inhaled his familiar scent, she noted that there had been quite a few embraces today. But with the danger outside, she had no time to ponder that.

Suddenly, Aaron's phone rang.

Nora pushed away from him, hope etched in her eyes. "Is it Edric? Has he arrived?"

Aaron quickly answered, "Edric, where are your guys?"

"On the way, almost there. Are you guys okay?" Edric asked urgently.

"We'll be in trouble if your team doesn't make it soon."

Aaron watched as Frederick took on six attackers outside, clearly outnumbered, and spoke with gravity.

"Hold on, I'm pushing 120 mph," Edric assured.

Aaron retorted, "What about your private jet? This is exactly the time to use it."

Edric, frustrated, replied, "I would if I could, but I lent it to a friend. Can you believe that?"

Aaron wanted to respond, but then he saw a thug outside with a crowbar smashing the glass next to Nora.

"Look out!"

The window shattered instantaneously. Aaron's pupils dilated, and he quickly shielded Nora, keeping her safe from the glass shards.

The car window cracked, and the thug reached inside, attempting to open the door.

Aaron's lips formed a sharp curve, and he brandished his knife at the intruder.

The thug screamed in pain, retracting his hand immediately.

At the same time, the window on Aaron's side was broken with a crowbar.

As Nora saw the thug's arm reaching through her window, she swiftly jabbed a silver pin into his pressure point.

He yelped in pain, unable to exert force.

A refreshing breeze carrying the scent of earth and timber wafted into the cramped space.

Aaron gave Nora a glance and a thumbs-up.

"Nora, your skills with those pins are still sharp."

Though Nora was still in shock, Aaron's calm praise filled her with a surge of pride.
Her nerves tensed as she watched the men in black draw near again.

"Thomas, stay focused—they're back!"

The car windows shattered on both sides as several grim-faced men in black aimed to open the doors and drag Aaron out of the car.

Aaron tensed, his back against Nora's.

"Nora, how long can you hold them off with your silver needles? If you can't, get behind me—I'll protect you."

Nora swallowed hard, her pride surfacing. "Don't underestimate me, Thomas. If you're the one struggling, I won't mind covering you!"

Aaron chuckled, "I can't wait for you to back me up!"

"No time for jokes! Snap out of it and stay sharp!"

"Aye, aye, Captain!"
