Chapter 649 Becomes the Second Aaron
Aaron turned on his phone's flashlight and saw Noe on the other side of the river waving frantically at them.
Seeing that they had spotted her, Noe quickly shouted, "Mr. Gordon, Dr. Smith, hurry across the river; this fog will cause hallucinations."
Aaron and Nora didn't hear clearly, but they saw Seraphina continuously whistling while Noe kept waving, signaling them to cross the river, naturally understanding that Noe and Seraphina were there to help them.
Aaron and Nora exchanged a glance, both holding their breath as they quickly walked onto the bridge.
The bridge was very old, with chains on both sides, swaying when people walked on it; it seemed that they might fall into the river at any moment.
Looking at the swift river below the bridge, Aaron held Nora tightly with one hand and grabbed the chain with the other, saying, "Nora, hold on to me; synchronize your steps."
Nora responded to his command with a nod.
The two held hands and walked in unison towards the other side of the river.
On the shore, Noe's gaze was fixed on the figures of Aaron and Nora, sweating for them in her heart.
He said, "Seraphina, please don't stop; we must not let them be ensnared by illusions on the bridge!"
Upon hearing Noe's words, Seraphina remained silent; the whistling continued without pause.
The whistle echoed through the vast forest.
Finally, Aaron and Nora safely reached the other side of the river.
Noe almost burst into tears in joy, striding towards the two of them and asking, "Mr. Gordon, Dr. Smith, are you two okay?"
Aaron was injured, and after the recent ordeal, his strength was severely depleted.
He held Nora's hand, which was trembling slightly.
But he remained calm and said, "We're fine."
Nora naturally noticed that he wasn't in great shape, saying, "Noe, find a place for Aaron to rest."
"Follow me." Noe quickly supported Aaron on the other side and headed towards the clearing where he and Seraphina had rested earlier.
Upon reaching the clearing, Nora checked Aaron's body and found that the wound on his chest had reopened slightly. She quickly took out a silver needle to perform acupuncture and stop the bleeding for him.
After resting for a moment, Aaron's complexion improved slightly.
"Mr. Gordon, are you feeling better?" Noe asked with concern.
Aaron nodded. "Yes."
Noe sighed in relief, wiped his sweat, and sat down beside him.
Seraphina also sat down next to him.
Aaron's gaze shifted to Seraphina; thinking about the whistling from earlier, he asked, "Seraphina, did you use the whistle to keep us alert and awake?"
Seraphina nodded.
"Thank you." Aaron sincerely expressed his gratitude.
Seraphina glanced at Noe and said, "I was brought here by him."
If it weren't for Noe insisting on bringing her here, she probably wouldn't have come to help Aaron and Nora.
"Mr. Gordon, Dr. Smith, we owe our gratitude to Seraphina this time," Noe said. Seraphina mentioned that there are many dangers in the forest, such as wild wolves and miasma, but the most dangerous is illusions. I was anxious and asked her if there was a way to break the illusions. She said as long as there was some noise, it would work, so I let her lead the way."
Aaron nodded and said again, "Seraphina, thank you very much."
Seraphina shook her head and said, "I just hope you don't blame Elara; she's not a bad person."
Upon hearing this, Noe chuckled, "Elara isn't bad? If it weren't for you today, Mr. Gordon and Dr. Smith might not have fared well."
Seraphina glanced at him, furrowing her brows slightly, and said gently, "Don't speak ill of Elara."
Noe knew she was overly protective of her sister, saying, "Alright, since you saved me, I won't argue with you about this."
At the words, Aaron raised an eyebrow and asked, "Noe, did Seraphina save you?"
"Yes, I almost fell into the river just now, and she saved me." Recalling the recent events, Noe turned curiously to Seraphina. "Do you possess martial arts skills?"
Seraphina looked puzzled and said, "No, I don't."
Noe asked, "Then how did you pull me up without any support just now?"
Seraphina paused, glanced at the raised area on the riverbank, and said, "There was a protrusion on the bank, and I hooked my feet there."
So that was how she pulled him up!
Noe had exaggerated her actions!
However, Seraphina's arm strength was indeed impressive.
Noe suddenly realized.
Seraphina glanced at him, her eyes flickering. She asked, "Do you remember what you said?"
"What?" Noe was momentarily puzzled.
Seraphina remained silent for a moment and said, "You said as long as I helped you up, you would be at my service."
And that was the phrase!
Noe nodded. "I remember. Do you want me to repay you?"
Seraphina said, "Was that just a casual remark?"
Noe replied, "Not at all; I keep my word. Whenever you need help, I can repay you anytime."
Seraphina spoke up, "Can you stay then?"
Noe was shocked, staring at Seraphina's expectant eyes, swallowing nervously.
"Seriously? Are you interested in me, wanting to marry me? Then what's the difference between you and Elara?" he said.
If that were the case, Noe would just become the second Aaron!
Noe was a bit unlucky!
He came to find Aaron but ended up involving himself.
And he had promised Seraphina that he could repay her whenever she needed!
He wanted to slap himself!
Seeing Noe's shocked and evasive gaze, the light in Seraphina's eyes dimmed slightly as she lowered her gaze. She said, "I was just asking casually; there's no need for you to stay."
Seraphina was probing.
Noe wasn't from this place, so it was normal for him not to stay.
Although she didn't hold much hope, Noe's attitude still made her feel a little disappointed.
Noe looked at her submissive appearance and felt a hint of pity.
He cleared his throat and said, "I'm sorry, but as a man, I can't just focus on love affairs; I have a lot of work to do."
Seraphina remained silent, just nodding quietly.
Meanwhile, Aaron watched this scene, his eyebrows raised with a hint of interest flashing in his eyes. He said, "Noe, have I been giving you too much work usually? You're not young anymore; it's time to settle down and start a family. Since Seraphina saved you and you made a promise to her, as a man, you must keep your word."
Since Seraphina was gentle and Noe was capable, Aaron felt like he could play Cupid and help them fulfill their love!
Noe took a deep breath, saying with a pained expression, "Mr. Gordon, you must be kidding!"
He had brought Seraphina to this terrifying place just to save Aaron, almost causing him to fall into the river.
Alright, Noe narrowly escaped falling into the river, but now he was about to be pushed into a pit by Aaron!
"I am serious. I was clearly thinking for you." Aaron's eyes sparkled with a hint of amusement. "Marriage is a man's top priority; only when the family is stable can you have the energy to focus on your career."
Noe opened his mouth to retort but didn't know what to say. He could only scratch his head in confusion.
Nora watched Noe being teased and playfully patted Aaron's arm, saying, "Alright, stop teasing Noe."
