Chapter 434 Making Marriage Plans
The Hamilton family.
Emma sat on the sofa, her expression not looking great.
She hadn't expected Mrs. Remington Senior to reject her proposal, with finality.
Archer was preparing to get engaged to a girl from the Long family.
The Long family was small and insignificant, and Emma wondered what the Remington Family was thinking.
Suzy, who was nearby, also had an unsightly expression on her face.
Emma held Howard's marriage as a bargaining chip for her marriage. She used to be a highly regarded movie star, with many wealthy men vying to marry her. But now she had to rely on someone else's influence to marry into a prestigious family.
Unfortunately, she was not successful. How embarrassing this was for her.
"Mum, didn't Mrs. Remington Senior insist on marrying Evella to Howard? Why did she agree to Archer marrying someone else? Mrs. Remington Senior said how she loves Evella, but I don't think it's genuine!" Suzy exclaimed.
Upon hearing this, Emma snorted, "Exactly! I thought as long as Mrs. Remington Senior insisted, your marriage to Archer would be no problem. But who would have thought that Archer would get engaged? And to a girl from the insignificant Long family."
"Mum, what should I do then?" Suzy pleaded, holding Emma's hand. "I feel like all the high society ladies in Lindwood City are laughing at me. My life is meaningless."
"Don't worry, Suzy. If Archer isn't an option, then I'll help you find someone else. I'll certainly find you a good match," Emma reassured her.
"Mum, why is my life so unlucky?" Suzy said with a pitiful tone, leaning into Emma's embrace.
Emma patted her shoulder and comforted her gently.
At that moment, Ebenezer came downstairs, his face filled with anger.
"Emma, why didn't you discuss with me before taking it upon yourself to arrange Suzy's marriage with Archer again? What were you thinking?" he confronted her.
Just now, he had received a phone call from the head of the Remington Family.
He learned about the absurd thing his good wife had done behind his back.
Seeing her husband accusing her with anger, Emma let go of Suzy and said coldly, "Suzy is my daughter. It's because of your stubbornness that she fell into this pitfall. Am I not allowed to plan a good match for her?"
Angry, Ebenezer retorted, "She brought this misfortune upon herself. I have no objections to you arranging a good marriage for her, but you should never, under any circumstances, try to scheme against the Remington Family again! How do you think they will see us now?"
"You actually negotiated with the Remington Family, saying that to marry Howard, Archer must marry Suzy. Is this something a lady of the household should decide? Have you ever considered how this would damage the relationship between the two families? You've become senile!"
Emma's face changed as her husband scolded her, calling her "senile." Just as she was about to speak, Howard, who was heading downstairs with Ebenezer, spoke up, "Dad, what did you just say?"
Why would he be marrying Evella with additional conditions?
Kenneth and Sandy, who were also heading downstairs, listened, and their faces were filled with surprise.
Ebenezer's face turned pale; looking at everyone, he said, "Ask your mother! See if she's becoming mad!"
Angered by her husband's insults, Emma retorted, "Ebenezer, stop calling me insane! Even if I am confused, it's because you have driven me to it!"
Ebenezer stared at her, "I have driven you to it? How have I driven you to madness?"
Emma replied, "If it weren't for your stubbornness, Suzy wouldn't have ended up like this. I am angry that none of you have respected me, so I want to do things my way!"
Upon hearing this, Ebenezer pointed at her and scolded, "Look at yourself now; you don't have the slightest bit of the demeanor of a lady of the house!"
Emma defiantly fought back, "What, are you starting to despise me again? Have you started thinking about your first love? You're so sentimental; she may be dead, but she will always live in your heart. Do you want to put divorce back on the agenda?"
"You! You're simply unreasonable!" Ebenezer was extremely angry.
"Mommy and Dad, please stop arguing," Kenneth intervened as he saw his parents about to quarrel, feeling a headache coming on.
Ebenezer turned away in anger, visibly upset.
Kenneth sighed inwardly and asked Emma, "Mommy, what's going on?"
Emma took a deep breath to calm her frustration and said, "I proposed it to Mrs. Remington Senior. If she insisted on marrying Evella to Howard, then Archer had to marry Suzy."
Kenneth furrowed his brows and asked, "Mrs. Remington Senior agreed?"
"At first, she did, but Archer suddenly said he wanted to be engaged to a Long family girl, so our agreement was canceled."
Kenneth felt speechless and thought his mother's actions were inappropriate.
He didn't say anything but looked at Howard.
Howard naturally disagreed with his mother's actions.
"Mommy, by doing this, how can I face the Remington Family in the future? I told you, as long as Grandma and Mrs. Remington Senior agreed, I would marry Evella. Why did you have to add another condition?"
"Because Evella is completely unworthy of you. Mrs. Remington Senior insisted on forcing the daughter of a rapist into our family. What did she think of us, the Hamilton family?" Emma said confidently.
Ebenezer couldn't help but shout again, "Shut up! Emma, look at what you've become now. If you continue to speak sarcastically, go back to your mother's house and reflect on yourself!"
He was furious!
Suzy, sitting next to Emma, flashed her eyes and quickly persuaded, "Mommy, don't argue with Dad because of my affairs."
Emma was Suzy's reliance, and she couldn't be kicked out of the Hamilton family, or else Suzy would have no support in the end.
Emma looked downcast, and she didn't say anything due to Ebenezer's authority.
Ebenezer suppressed his anger and looked at Howard, and asked, "Howard, you just said that as long as our two families agree, you will agree to marry Evella?"
Howard nodded in response, "Yes."
"Okay, your Grandmother and Mrs. Remington Senior have already talked about the marriage between our two families. Later, I will talk to your Grandmother and put your and Evella's wedding on the agenda," Ebenezer said.
Upon seeing her husband persistently opposing her, Emma's anger, which she had suppressed before, came up again.
Emma sneered, "Ebenezer, why do you insist on having my son marry that Evella? Mrs. Remington Senior said that Evella doesn't even like Howard. It was her decision against Evella's objections. "
Saying that, she looked at Howard again.
"Howard, your family background is good, and you have a good appearance. Can't you find a girlfriend? Do you have to marry a woman who doesn't like you? After she marries you, will you two have a troubled relationship in the future, just like me and your father?" Emma persuaded.
