Chapter 617 Paying the Price

Kenneth closed his eyes, trying to digest the situation, and said, "So, Sandy didn't betray me, right?"

"Yes." Nora nodded.

"Where is Sandy then?" he asked.

He was already awake; why couldn't he see Sandy anywhere?

Nora said, "Sandy thought she was Jinx, causing you to have an accident, and left quietly on the third day after you were hospitalized."

At these words, Kenneth suddenly opened his eyes and said, "Sandy left. She was pregnant. Where did she go?"

"Sandy went to a remote fishing village; I had a hard time finding her. But she refused to come back no matter what," Nora said.

Kenneth furrowed his brows, feeling a tightness in his chest, suddenly coughing violently.

Nora patted his back quickly, saying, "Kenneth, calm down."

At that moment, the door opened, Emma, Ebenezer, and Howard all came in.

"Kenneth, are you okay?" Ebenezer had just returned home and hurried up to see Kenneth upon hearing he had woken up.

Howard said, "Kenneth, you're finally awake."

Howard had been sleeping off his alcohol when he was awakened by Emma. He still looked groggy but evidently excited.

Kenneth calmed down slowly, nodding slightly.

His gaze fell on Emma, who was smiling. Thinking about what Nora had told him, he swallowed hard and asked, "Mom, did you believe Suzy's instigation and frame Sandy deliberately, making me think she was with another man?"

At these words, the smile on Emma's face froze, her gaze avoiding his.

She said, "Kenneth, I did it for you. Sandy is a Jinx. I was afraid she would harm you, so I wanted her to leave you."

Kenneth's gaze darkened; he said, "I was indeed almost harmed, not by Sandy, but by you! If it wasn't for your scheme, how could I have had the accident?"

Thinking that he had wrongly accused Sandy and that Sandy had left with a child, he started coughing violently again.

"Kenneth, calm down, have some water." Nora handed him the freshly poured water quickly.

Kenneth calmed his emotions, took the cup slowly, and drank some water.

Emma felt guilty and remorseful, saying, "I didn't expect this to happen. If I had known you would have an accident, I would never have listened to Suzy."

Handing the cup to Nora, Kenneth asked coldly, "Where is Suzy? I want to ask her myself why she treated Sandy like this. What did Sandy do to her?"

At these words, everyone fell silent.

Nora said, "Kenneth, he has paid the price for doing wrong; Suzy died in a car accident."

Kenneth was stunned, saying, "She's dead?"

"Yes." Nora nodded. "Kenneth, a lot has happened while you were unconscious. Let me slowly tell you about it."

Kenneth agreed and thought of Sandy again, asking, "Nora, is Sandy still alone in that remote fishing village?"

Nora shook her head, saying, "Sandy is not alone there. When you were unconscious, she left a few words and ran away. We searched everywhere and finally found out where she was staying."

"The medical conditions there are poor; Sandy is doing volunteer work there. I tried to persuade her to come back, but she refused. Aaron came up with the idea for us, sent a lot of medical staff to help, and found two experienced nannies to take care of Sandy. During this time, I flew over to see her whenever I had the chance."

Upon hearing this, Kenneth smiled with relief and said, "Nora, you have a kind heart."

Nora said, "Since you were not here, I had to take care of Sandy for you."

Kenneth smiled, his eyes filled with gratitude.

"Kenneth, now that you're awake, we'll wait for you to bring Sandy back," Ebenezer said on the side, "Staying home is good for prenatal care. Sandy is pregnant; so it's best for her to return home. Volunteering in a remote village can be too rigorous for an expectant mother."

Nora thought that Sandy was doing well in that village. But Nora wouldn't be foolish enough to say such things at this time.

It had to be Kenneth who went to get Sandy. Only he could bring Sandy back. But Sandy was so stubborn; who knew if she would listen to him and come back obediently?

Suddenly, she thought of Zephyr; he was still there. Nora thought about whether to mention it to Kenneth. But whether she said it or not, Kenneth would probably be unhappy. After all, Zephyr was Sandy's first love, and Zephyr followed Sandy to that remote place when Kenneth was unconscious. Nora decided to keep silent it, wondering how Kenneth would handle Zephyr's feelings for Sandy for now.

She also wondered how things were going on between Jane, the woman they rescued, and Zephyr

If she could make Zephyr fall in love with her, that would be great.

"Kenneth, it's good that you're awake." After the excitement, Ebenezer felt a wave of exhaustion. "I'll go take a shower."

The tension he had been holding for days could finally be let go.

After all, Kenneth had woken up, and he could relax again.

"Kenneth, I'll go back to my room first." Howard's stomach was a bit sore; he couldn't help but groan in pain as he held his stomach.

Kenneth glanced at him, furrowing his brows and sniffing. He said, "Howard, you're a doctor; why are you so drunk today? You still smell of alcohol now."

Howard felt guilty, looking at Nora.

Thinking of Howard's drunkenness, Nora suppressed a smile and said, "Kenneth, Howard drank because he was happy today."

Howard nodded in agreement quickly.

Nora asked, "Howard, is your stomach uncomfortable?"

Howard replied, "A little."

"You should be ," Nora said.

Howard mumbled in agreement.

He thought to himself that if Richard made him drink again next time, he would have to drink!

"Howard, Mom had soup simmered, drink some soup later," Emma said.

"Okay, thanks, Mom; I'll go back to my room to freshen up first," Howard said.

"Okay," Emma said.

After Howard left, Kenneth said, "Nora, you mentioned a lot of things happened during this time; tell me about it."

"Okay," Nora divulged to Kenneth all the recent happenings, revealing that she was in fact the biological daughter of the Hamilton family, making her Kenneth's younger sister. She also shared news of her engagement to Aaron, as well as Howard's dating with Evella.

She told every detail to Kenneth.

Kenneth listened attentively, shocked.

He never expected so much to happen while he was unconscious.

The fact that Nora was his real younger sister was especially unbelievable to him.

He asked, "Nora, how did you become my sister? Have you found out where the mistake was made?"

Nora shook her head, looked at Emma, and said, "Mom and Dad haven't found out the truth about what happened back then."

Emma sat quietly on the side, listening to Kenneth and Nora talk.

When this was mentioned, Emma suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head.

Her head spun for a moment; she closed her eyes tightly, and her head tingled.
