Chapter 249 Her Father Is Truly Despicable
Allen remained silent, his weathered brows knitting together in thought.
"Dad, why do you suppose Nora asked you to accompany us?" Frank pressed on, his curiosity piqued. "What could she possibly want?"
Allen's mind whirled, his brows furrowing deeper. "We'll find out when we get there," he finally responded, his voice laced with uncertainty. Could it possibly involve her father?
Upon their arrival at the club, Nora handed Frank a room number. They exited their vehicle and followed the attendant through the dimly lit club to a private room.
As the door swung open, they were greeted by the sight of Nora and Aaron, lounging comfortably on a plush couch. Noe and Frederick stood nearby, their presence an unspoken threat. Aaron, clad in a simple white shirt and black suit, radiated an aristocratic aura that marked him as anything but ordinary.
Allen and Frank exchanged a glance, both silently questioning Aaron's identity.
"Mr. Ward, it's good to see you," Nora greeted, her voice breaking the silence.
Allen snapped back to reality, nodding in acknowledgment. "Miss, we're here. And this gentleman is?" He gestured towards Aaron, their social circles clearly not overlapping.
Nora glanced at Aaron, who introduced himself with a stoic expression. "Aaron."
Aaron! The Aaron! The most influential figure in River City!
Allen and Frank exchanged another look, their eyes wide with shock. They had never imagined Nora would be acquainted with Aaron!
"So, it's Mr. Gordon, I've heard much about you," Frank managed to say, stepping forward with a forced smile. "I'm Frank, delighted to meet you, Mr. Gordon. You've always been my idol."
Aaron's gaze was sharp and unyielding as he glanced at Frank. "Are you the one who tried to harm Nora twice?"
Frank's throat tightened as he quickly tried to defuse the situation. "Misunderstandings, all misunderstandings!"
"Misunderstandings?" Aaron scoffed, sharing a knowing look with Frederick.
With a swift movement, Frederick grabbed Frank and began to mercilessly pummel him. Frank was taken by surprise and let out a scream of pain.
Allen, standing to the side, was taken aback by the sudden violence. His face paled, and he began to plead desperately. "Stop, Mr. Gordon, please! Have mercy! He can't take much more of this!"
Aaron remained emotionless, not even batting an eyelid. Nora sat nearby in silence. As far as she was concerned, the man who had tried to trap her twice deserved the beating.
It wasn't until Frank was gasping for breath and Allen had fallen to his knees begging for his son's life that Aaron instructed Frederick to stop.
Frank lay on the ground, his face contorted in pain, groaning weakly. Allen rushed to his side, tears streaming down his face as he cradled his beaten son, his anger held back by fear.
Aaron turned to Nora. "Aren't you going to ask?"
Nora nodded. "Allen, the reason for your visit today is to confirm something for me."
Allen, wiping away his tears, suppressed his anger. "What is it?"
"The car accident involving my mom years ago, there's more to the story, isn't there?"
Allen tightened his grip around Frank at her words. "There's no more to it. Your mom was responsible for the death."
He wasn't wrong in his assumption. Nora had called him to inquire about this matter.
"Allen," Nora continued, "Martha told me she overheard you talking with my dad. It was him who was involved in the accident, not my mom. She went to prison to cover for him."
Nora's gaze hardened as she looked at Frank. "I believe you have evidence of my dad's crime. If you provide it to me, I'll erase Frank's criminal record. If not, I'll call the police right away."
Allen clutched Frank tighter, his silence echoing in the room. Frank coughed weakly and tugged at his sleeve, struggling to speak. "Dad, save me, I don't want to go to jail."
Allen looked at his son, beaten and bruised, his gaze shifting evasively. "I really don't have any evidence, what do you expect me to say?"
Aaron's lips curled into a cold smirk at his words. "It seems you're quite loyal to your boss, huh? Fine, if you're willing to sacrifice your son for your boss, then I'll oblige you. Noe, call the police."
The mention of the police sent Frank into a panic, his pleas for mercy echoing in the room.
"Dad, no!" The plea was desperate. "Sis is already married. Do you truly wish to see your only son behind bars? Who will care for you in your twilight years?"
His impassioned speech tugged at his injuries, making him wince in pain. A loud groan escaped his lips.
Allen watched his son's pitiful state, his mind embroiled in a fierce internal conflict.
Observing his father's silence, Noe deliberately dialed a number on her phone.
"Hello, is this the police station? I wish to report someone..."
"No, don't call them!" Allen finally succumbed, unable to bear it any longer. "I'll talk, I'll tell you everything!"
Aaron glanced at Noe, who, understanding the situation, put away her phone.
Nora watched Allen with an intense gaze, her fingers clenched tightly. Her heart was a whirlpool of fear and anxiety, apprehensive about the truth that was about to be revealed.
Sensing her discomfort, Aaron reached out and gently enveloped her hand in his. Nora looked at him, a warm surge of comfort spreading through her heart.
Allen finally broke his silence. "I do have evidence. Yes, it was indeed Carol who took the fall for Charles years ago."
"The victim was a young woman fresh out of college, who had been kept by Charles for two years. After graduation, she didn't want to be kept anymore and tried to break up with Charles. Charles refused, went to confront her, and unexpectedly saw her entering a hotel room with another man."
"Feeling humiliated, Charles was consumed by anger. The next day he confronted the woman, demanding that she repay all the money he had spent on her. The woman refused and insulted Charles, saying he couldn't handle rejection. Drunk and enraged, Charles ended up hitting her with his car."
"After the incident, he regretted his actions and tried to rush her to the hospital, only to find she had already died. Panicked, he called Carol and asked her to take the blame. Carol initially refused, but Charles blackmailed and bribed her with threats involving your safety until Carol finally agreed."
Nora's heart ached terribly as she absorbed the words.
The depth of a mother's love was indeed profound—her mother had compromised with her father for Nora's sake.
Her father was truly despicable!
"Where's the evidence?" Nora steadied herself and asked.
Allen replied, "I was there too when Charles sent for Carol. I had the foresight to record their conversation."
A recording!
Aaron glanced at Nora and spoke to Allen, "Hand it over."
Allen fumbled with his smartphone, then played a recording.
"Charles, you hit someone with your car; you've got to turn yourself in. How can you ask me to take the fall for you?"
"Carol, you have to understand, you're not in good health and you're a homemaker. The whole family depends on me! If I go to jail, the company will be ruined. If that happens, our home falls apart. Think of our daughter—don't you want her to grow up well-off?"
"But..."
"No buts about it. If you agree to take my place, I’ll immediately transfer 20% of my shares to Nora's name."
Hearing her mother's voice again stirred Nora's emotions, and her eyes involuntarily reddened.
The recording vividly reconstructed that moment in the past.
Her mother had been coaxed into going to prison by Charles!
If her mother hadn't agreed to take his place, she might still be living the good life today!
