Chapter 1075 The First Person Who Came to Mind Was Him
Samantha could hear Alfred's breathing and the door closing on the phone. Dude had already bounced.
Right then, Samantha finally chilled out. It hit her that the first person she thought of when stuff went down was Alfred.
She could've called the property management or even the bodyguard. But nah, she only thought of Alfred.
Samantha blinked, thinking Alfred was Mateo's personal bodyguard, the most solid dude she knew. That's why she hit him up first.
As she was zoning out, the doorbell rang.
Alfred's voice came through the phone. "Samantha, open up, I'm here."
Samantha grinned and got up to open the door.
Alfred, all decked out in black, brought in the cool night air, his eyes locked on her. "You good?"
"I'm fine." Samantha shook her head and stepped aside to let him in.
"What's the deal?" Alfred asked, turning on his phone's flashlight.
"I dunno, I was watching a movie and bam, the power went out."
"Where's the circuit breaker?"
Samantha looked clueless. "No idea."
"I'll find it." Alfred searched the place and quickly found the breaker.
He checked it and saw it had tripped. Once he flipped the switch, the lights came back on instantly. "All good, just a tripped breaker."
Samantha let out a sigh of relief and turned off her phone's flashlight.
Alfred did the same. "What movie were you watching, a horror flick?"
Samantha said, "Yeah, the sudden blackout freaked me out."
Alfred looked at her still-spooked face, his gaze intense.
When Samantha got scared, the first person she thought of was him, which meant he was important to her.
A flicker of joy crossed his mind, but Alfred's face stayed chill.
Glancing at the time, Alfred said, "It's getting late. Don't stay up too late; it's bad for your skin. Hit the sack early. I'm out."
Hearing that Alfred was leaving, Samantha hesitated, asking, "What if the power trips again?"
Alfred was testing her, and her reaction was just what he hoped for. "Want me to stay?"
"Sure." Samantha responded quickly, but then she waved her hand. "Never mind, you should go back to the hotel."
Alfred's lips curled up slightly but then flattened. He knew Samantha was probably worried Wesley would mind his presence. "You not scared anymore?"
"I'm not a kid, I'm not scared." Samantha tried to play it cool.
Alfred stared at her. "Then why you frowning?"
Samantha touched her forehead. "Am I?"
Alfred didn't say anything but suddenly shouted towards the window. "Who's there?"
Samantha jumped and hid behind him, clutching his clothes tightly.
A glint of satisfaction flashed in Alfred's eyes, but he said, "Sorry, Samantha, my bad. Don't be scared, it was just the curtain blowing in the wind."
Samantha didn't know Alfred did it on purpose. She patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. "Why'd you scare me like that?"
Alfred looked at her pale face. "You sure you want me to go back to the hotel?"
Samantha opened her mouth, but the word "yes" wouldn't come out.
Alfred seized the moment. "How about this, I'll stay until you crash, then I'll bounce. Sound good?"
Samantha's eyes lit up, she thought it was a good idea. But she still pretended. "Wouldn't that be too much trouble for you?"
Alfred said, "With our friendship, this is nothing."
Samantha thought for a sec. "Alright, I won't be polite then."
"Go to sleep, don't worry, I'll be in the living room," Alfred said.
"Okay." With him there, Samantha felt chill. She went into her room, got into bed, and lay down.
She turned off the light, and through the crack in the door, she could see the living room light was still on. Knowing Alfred was outside, she closed her eyes peacefully.
Alfred sat on the couch, his brown eyes glued to the bedroom door. Tonight, he wasn't going anywhere; he was staying put to watch over her.
Meanwhile, Wesley had been grinding through two schedules and hadn't caught a wink of sleep. He got into the RV, rubbed his aching temples, and looked pretty beat.
"Wesley, have something to drink," Elijah handed him a glass of milk.
Wesley didn't say a word, took the milk, chugged it, and then closed his eyes to rest.
Elijah told the driver to head to River View Estate, and they got there pretty quick.
Seeing Wesley resting, Elijah gently woke him up. "Wesley, we're home. Go back to sleep."
Wesley opened his eyes and nodded.
Getting out of the car, Wesley was about to head to his building when he suddenly thought of something. He wasn't totally cool with Alfred's arrival. He didn't know where Alfred went afterward, whether he was with Samantha.
After a moment of silence, Wesley turned and walked towards Samantha's building.
Elijah's eyes flashed, catching Wesley's drift, and quickly followed. "Wesley, you gonna have breakfast with Samantha?"
"Yeah. What floor is she on?" Wesley asked.
"I think it's the seventeenth floor."
They took the elevator, and Elijah pressed the button.
Soon, the elevator reached the seventeenth floor.
At Samantha's door, Wesley rang the doorbell.
After a bit, someone came to open the door. It wasn't Samantha, but Alfred.
At that moment, he was rocking a fitted black tank top that Samantha had bought for him, with a towel around his neck, looking like he had just woken up.
Wesley had his doubts, but seeing Alfred at Samantha's place made his face darken. "What are you doing here?"
Alfred raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised by Wesley's arrival, but also pleased. He was about to speak when Samantha's voice came from behind. "Alfred, who's here?"
Samantha, in her pink pajamas, rubbing her eyes, came out of the bedroom.
Alfred curled his lips. "It's Wesley."
Samantha blinked, seeing Wesley's pissed-off expression, her heart skipped a beat. "Wesley, good morning."
She had just promised Wesley yesterday to keep her distance from other guys. And today, Wesley found Alfred at her place. She guessed Wesley must be fuming.
"Samantha, did he stay here last night?" Wesley's voice was cold, his eyes full of anger.
Samantha tried to explain, "Wesley, listen to me, Alfred stayed because..."
"No need to explain." Wesley cut her off before she could finish. "Samantha, I didn't expect you to be this kind of woman. I'm very disappointed in you."
With that, Wesley turned and left.
Samantha stood there, mouth open, with half a sentence stuck in her throat.
"Wesley," she called out, but he had already entered the elevator.
Samantha didn't chase after him, stood there for a couple of seconds, then turned to Alfred. "Alfred, didn't you say you'd leave after I fell asleep? Why didn't you leave?"
Alfred was laughing inside, but his face showed an apologetic look. "Sorry, I accidentally fell asleep. When I woke up, it was already morning. I was gonna wash my face and leave, but I didn't expect Wesley to show up. I'll go explain it to him right now."
