Chapter 148 Why Not Give It a Chance

Aaron looked at her, his tone softening, "Nora, I know my mom went to see you, and that's why you're angry. I'm sorry I didn't handle things well, and on behalf of my mom, I apologize."

Nora thought of Mrs. Gordon's disdain towards her and let out a mocking laugh, "No need for that. Even without your mother's visit, I've already told you I have no plans to marry. I have a car, a house, and savings — I don't need to rely on a man."

Do not think that just because she has to support three children, her life must be terribly hard, and she needs a wealthy person to step in.

She didn't need to marry into affluence because she was already affluent herself!

Aaron's eyes remained fixed on her, catching the fleeting sneer across her pretty face, and he let out a light laugh.

"Yes, you do not need to rely on a man. It is I who need to rely on you. So, how about I join your family?"

Did Aaron even know what he was saying?

Nora's gaze was locked onto his smiling eyes, and she saw a glint of seriousness within.

Was he trying to charm her? He was, after all, the esteemed CEO of Gordon Group!

Nora's emotions were in disarray for a moment, tempted to compromise.

But then, something flashed in her mind, steadying her once-floating heart.

"Mr. Gordon, even if what you're saying is true, I'm not interested because I don't like men who aren't worth my time," Nora said.

She certainly didn't want to compete with numerous women over one man.

"You're calling me unworthy?" Aaron's eyes narrowed slightly as he asked.

"Aren't you?" Nora's lips curled up in a mocking smile.

Aaron watched her, then finally said, "Nora, are you referring to Sunny? Who doesn't have a past? Even criminals get a chance to turn their lives around, don't they? You can't condemn me to a life sentence for mistakes I made before I even met you, can you? And besides, that was a miscarriage of justice."

Nora chuckled, "So, are you saying you were forced to sleep with Sunny?"

Aaron was silent for a moment, "Not exactly forced, but definitely not out of love."

With sarcasm in her eyes, Nora said, "Mr. Gordon, so whenever you're done with a woman and want to push her away, you claim it's not out of love? I wonder how long your so-called novelty of me will last."

A frown creased Aaron's forehead, "Nora, is that really what you think of me?"

Taking a deep breath and averting her gaze, Nora said coldly, "No matter how I see you, it's just not going to happen between us."

Aaron's gaze on her was steady, and suddenly, he smiled, "Nora, I misread you. You're actually scared."

Stunned, she looked straight at him, "What do you mean?"

"What I mean is, you obviously like me, but you keep finding excuses to cover up your true feelings."

Aaron's eyes were intense, "Nora, if you miss the chance with me, are you sure you won't regret it when you're older?"

Nora had finally managed to still her tumultuous heart, but his presence stirred it all up again.

Her eyes shimmered, thoughts adrift.

Aaron saw her hesitant demeanor and knew he had a chance.

He reached out, grasping her shoulder gently, and whispered, "Nora, the kids like me, and you do too. Why not give yourself a chance?"

His voice was soft and soothing, nearly submerging her in its depths.

The emotional barriers Nora had built were on the verge of collapsing.

She slowly raised her eyes, meeting the intensity of his gaze, her fingers tensed.

Should she give him a chance? No, he was a heartbreaker.

The moment his curiosity waned, he would walk away, leaving her the one in pain!

"Mr. Gordon, there's no need to say more. I've lost my faith in men and in the existence of everlasting love. I don't want to get hurt again," she firmly stated.

The silence around them amplified her words.

A smile slowly faded from Aaron's face.

He had failed.

She did not believe him!

The air around them seemed to freeze.

Nora pulled away from his hold, her composure restored, "Do you still need to go to the restroom?"

Aaron's Adam's apple bobbed, "I can barely stand. Come and support me."

Failure meant nothing.

Her resistance to men, given her past heartaches, was natural.

He had plenty of time to slowly dissipate her concerns and make her willing to believe in love once more.

At Star Villa.

The staff peeked curiously at the unexpected visitors, slightly uncertain.

The arrivals were Mary, along with Howard, Suzy, and a Sunny.

They had no idea why they were there so late in the evening.

"Is Aaron back?" Mary inquired of the staff.

"Mr. Gordon hasn't returned yet," the servant truthfully responded.

"You all may leave now,"

Mary, supported by Suzy, settled onto the couch and instructed the staff.

They acknowledged and dispersed.

It was Sunny's first visit to Aaron's house, and she was taken aback by the elaborate décor of the grand villa.

Exquisite taste. It screamed wealth.

Truly a residence that was beyond the reach of ordinary families.

"Sunny, I remember you're a small-time celebrity, right? Are you sure you're skilled in acupuncture?" Mary surveyed Sunny from head to toe, a flicker of scrutiny in her eyes.

Sunny snapped back to reality, hastily answering, "Yes, Mrs. Gordon, I originally got accepted into medical school before switching to the acting department."

"Oh? Is that so?" Mary remained somewhat skeptical.

Beside her, Suzy chimed in at the right moment, "Don't worry. Sunny just published an article on acupuncture, and it caught the attention and praise of many medical bigwigs."

Hearing this, Mary felt reassured, "You wouldn't know it to look at her, but Sunny is quite accomplished for someone so young."

A spark of intrigue flickered in Sunny's eyes as she said with a laugh, "My agency insists on creating this image of me as a scholar, so I have to respond with a bit of flair. Actually, many medical students who have studied acupuncture have quite a bit of skill themselves."

Mary nodded in approval, complimenting her, "Sunny, you're pretty modest."

"It's nothing really," Sunny replied, feigning humility.

Howard gave her a longer look and commented, "Indeed, these days, it's rare to see young people who are both skilled and not full of themselves. Sunny's modesty is a rare find."

Suzy glanced around with dancing eyes and prodded intentionally, "Howard, are you referring to Nora?"

Howard just huffed and kept silent.

When Mary heard Nora's name, her interest was immediately piqued, "Howard, Suzy, what's up with Nora?"

As Howard stayed quiet, Suzy explained, "You haven't heard? Nora's a schemer. She thought no one understood Herbalism and actually faked her academic studies. If it weren't for Sunny publishing her acupuncture article, Nora would've slipped through undetected!"

Hearing this, Mary snorted disdainfully, "I knew she was a crafty one through and through! We can't let this slide. We need to replace her immediately so she doesn't end up deceiving Aaron."
