Chapter 838 Drooling While Grinding Teeth
"I had doctors treat her, but after the treatment, Florence didn't get better."
Mateo's handsome eyebrows furrowed slightly.
"I called in other doctors, but they all said Florence's illness was incurable. I couldn't tell if they were just intimidated by my siblings or if they were truly helpless."
"I don't believe it, and I don't want to lose Florence, so I started looking for renowned doctors everywhere. When I heard you came to Hchilia, I set my sights on you. Dr. Smith, I apologize again for my earlier abruptness."
Nora waved her hand, not minding Mateo's abruptness anymore.
She just wanted to know about Florence's condition.
"How is Florence doing?"
Mateo said, "I can't explain the specifics very well. If possible, could you come with me?"
Nora glanced at the time and said, "Now?"
Mateo was slightly taken aback and asked, "Dr. Smith, you agreed?"
Nora blinked her beautiful eyes and said, "Do you want me to refuse?"
Mateo's spirits lifted, saying, "Of course not; I just didn't expect you to be so agreeable!"
Nora joked, "Maybe it's because you're quite good at eliciting sympathy."
Mateo laughed, asking, "Dr. Smith, don't you suspect that I'm making up a story to deceive you?"
Nora raised an eyebrow and said, "Are you making it up?"
Mateo quickly shook his head. "No."
"Then that's settled."
Nora asked again, "Shall we go?"
Mateo hesitated for a moment.
"I didn't expect you to agree so readily, so I didn't prepare. I'm afraid if you go out with me now, it might be dangerous for you. How about I make some arrangements and come back to pick you up tonight?"
His brother Rafael Fischer wouldn't spare anyone who got close to him in order to eliminate rivals.
He had to be prepared and not drag Nora into it.
"Okay."
Nora agreed, "I'm quite tired now, and I'll be more energetic to treat people after a good sleep."
She agreed to treat Florence not because Mateo was good at eliciting sympathy.
But out of a doctor's instinct.
Nora was just curious about what kind of heart attack Florence had that no doctor could cure.
"Dr. Smith, thank you."
Mateo looked deeply at Nora, his deep eyes shining with a bit of light.
Nora waved her hand and said, "Don't get your hopes up too high. You might be disappointed if my skills are limited."
"No, you're a talented doctor; I believe you can do it," Mateo said.
Nora glanced at him and teased, "You're making me nervous with all that praise, Mateo. I'm not sure I can handle the pressure."
Mateo couldn't help but laugh, his smile radiant.
Nora sighed, "So, Mateo, can you leave now?"
She was really tired and sleepy. She just wanted to fall asleep immediately.
"Alright. See you tonight."
Mateo left, and the room quieted down.
Nora plopped down on the sofa, still a bit incredulous.
Mateo, a prince, was actually playing dumb!
It was really unbelievable!
Nora yawned; she was exhausted.
Nora's nerves calmed, but the fatigue hit her with full force.
So she quickly went to bed and fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
She slept deeply until someone woke her up.
Opening her eyes, Nora saw Mateo's smiling, deep eyes, still a bit dazed.
After a while, she jolted awake, quickly sat up, and pulled the blanket up.
"How did you sneak in again? Even if you're a prince, it's impolite to sneak into someone's room without a word."
Mateo looked innocent and said, "Dr. Smith, I left in such a hurry earlier that I forgot to ask for your contact information. So how else could I see you?"
Nora scratched her head and said, "Couldn't you knock?"
Mateo replied, "I was afraid of disturbing others."
Nora was speechless; looking at Mateo's innocent eyes, she waved her hand.
"Get out; I need to change."
Forget it; she wouldn't argue with him.
It was useless to argue with a fool.
Mateo smiled, but as he turned, he paused again.
"By the way, Dr. Smith, are you hungry? You were grinding your teeth and drooling in your sleep just now!"
Nora had just lifted the blanket to get out of bed and almost stumbled at his words.
She was grinding her teeth and drooling in her sleep.
She remembered she dreamed of others eating while she could only watch!
She hadn't eaten all day, so she was really hungry.
"Mateo, you should have learned manners; you know it's rude to point out others' flaws!"
Nora was a bit embarrassed.
Mateo shrugged and said, "But I don't think it's a flaw; I think you looked quite cute in your sleep."
Nora glanced at him and pointed to the door, saying, "Out."
"Got it."
Mateo's eyes filled with a smile, and he obediently went out.
Nora wiped her mouth and blinked.
Her mouth was clean; she didn't seem to have drooled.
Was Mateo lying to her?
And she fell for it!
She was fooled!
Nora rolled her eyes, changed her clothes, and went to the bathroom to wash her face.
After freshening up, she checked the time; it was now around 9 PM local time.
She had slept for so long.
But after a good sleep, she felt much more energetic.
Nora went to the living room and saw Mateo sitting obediently on the sofa, waiting for her.
Seeing her ready, he stood up and looked her over. "Dr. Smith, you look great tonight."
Nora glanced at him and said, "I think you were cuter when you were playing dumb."
Mateo grinned and said, "If you like that version of me, I can keep playing the fool. Dr. Smith!"
His tone changed immediately with the last few words.
Nora got goosebumps all over.
She rubbed her arms and frowned, saying, "Shut up!"
Mateo's smile deepened, and he said, "Dr. Smith, are you cold? I can warm you up with a hug."
Saying this, he opened his arms, pretending to hug her.
Nora quickly took out an injection needle and said, "Mateo, do you want to become a real fool?"
Retracting his arms, Mateo laughed heartily and replied, "Dr. Smith, as long as you're happy, I'll do whatever you say."
Nora glanced at him and said, "Mateo, I'm starting to doubt the authenticity of your story from earlier. Is your life really that miserable?"
Mateo raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why do you ask?"
Nora explained, "Because someone who is oppressed to the point of playing dumb all day shouldn't be so carefree and cheerful."
Mateo was silent for a moment, then said, "Perhaps it's Florence's optimism that's rubbing off on me. If I were like my mother, I wouldn't have survived this long."
A flash of sadness passed through his eyes.
Nora put away her joking tone. "Sorry, I was just kidding; I didn't mean anything by it."
Mateo looked at her with slightly melancholic eyes.
"If you feel sorry, can you give me a hug?"
Nora was speechless, impressed by how effortlessly Mateo could shift from sadness to cheerfulness.
"Are we leaving or not?"
"Dr. Smith, can't you give me a comforting hug?"
"Say that again, I dare you." Nora pretended to be angry.
Mateo laughed and said, "I don't dare, let's go."
The two walked to the door one after the other.
At this moment, the doorbell suddenly rang.
