Chapter 137 Why is Nora so distant from him?

Aaron's brows knitted together as he retracted his hand in mild shock.

"Sorry, Mr. Gordon, I admire you too much. That was uncharacteristic of me," Paul chuckled awkwardly before swiftly departing.

Nora's eyes sparkled with insight as she watched Paul desperately suppress his feelings. She mused that if he might have pounced on Aaron if they had been alone.

She felt a step closer to the truth.

As Paul drove off, Nora turned to Jenny. "Come with me."

Jenny blinked in surprise. "Where?"

"You'll see," Nora replied cryptically, then addressed Aaron, "Mr. Gordon, it's getting late. I won't keep you any longer. You and Noe should head back."

She'd thought about asking him to help watch the house.
Yet she couldn't bring herself to say it.

Moving forward, she had to keep her distance from Aaron.

Aaron was just a patient of hers—nothing more!

After stating her resolve, Nora turned to Jack. "Jack, Jenny, and I are stepping out for a bit. Can you watch the kids for me?"

Jack was caught off guard but quickly agreed, "Sure."

Nora then instructed her three children firmly, "You all behave and listen to Mr. Parke, okay? If I'm late, you'll need to bathe and get to bed on your own, right?"

The kids exchanged knowing glances and obediently nodded, "Okay."

Aaron's dark eyes narrowed with a dangerous intensity, suppressing his unease. "Nora, where are you heading?"

What's gotten into her? Why is she suddenly so distant?

"I just have some matters to take care of," Nora replied briefly, then whisked Jenny away.

Though Jack didn't quite understand why Nora hurried off with Jenny, it was clear that Nora treated him like one of her own.

With that thought, a slight smile crept onto his lips. "Are you heading out, Mr. Gordon? If you are, I won't keep you."

Aaron, noticing the amused smirk on Jack's face, fought down his irritation.

"I have to wait for Nora to come back for my treatment. I'm not leaving just yet."

Jack pondered momentarily, "How about we play a few more chess games then?"

His earlier defeat was still irking him.

"Alright," Aaron agreed, and they resumed their game.

Outside.

Nora drove, following Paul's trail with Jenny in tow.

Jenny, eyeing the road ahead, asked, "Nora, where exactly are you taking me?"

"You'll know soon enough," Nora answered, her gaze fixed on Paul's car not far ahead.

Jenny grasped the handle nervously, unrest settling in her heart.

She glanced at Nora's profile and ventured a guess, "Nora, is there something wrong with Paul?"

It wasn't suspicion for suspicion's sake; Nora's actions were too conspicuous.

"Paul left abruptly, and now she's hurriedly taking me out. Could this be to show me some truth?" Jenny thought.

Nora's reaction to Jenny's mention of Paul was to purse her lips and stop hiding the truth.

"Jenny, I slipped something into Paul's drink. He'll be looking to vent urgently right now."

Her dosage wasn't high—just enough to cause a slight excitement in a normal man but not enough to lose control.

If he was with a woman he fancied, no doubt he'd want something to happen between them.

This was her way of testing Paul.

Deep down, she clung to a sliver of hope that Paul might take Jenny away tonight.

Maybe then she could convince herself that she was just overthinking things.
Reality proved her concerns were not unfounded.

"Nora, why did you put something in Paul's drink?"

Jenny's face was a picture of surprise, clearly unable to grasp what was happening.

Nora glanced at her and said, "Jenny, whatever I'm about to say, I promise you won't freak out, okay?"

Jenny nodded. "Go ahead."

After a moment of silence, Nora confessed, "I think Paul may not be into women."

The statement left Jenny even more shocked.

"What? Nora, don't joke around. How could you possibly deduce that?"

Is Paul not into women? But they were practically engaged!

"Last week, I saw him dining with Kim. Their interaction seemed too intimate, so it raised a red flag for me. Moreover, when Kim was hospitalized, Paul spent the whole night there."

Nora relayed everything to Jenny one more time.

Jenny's face went through a spectrum of colors.

"You're saying, Paul and Kim...? That's impossible! How could he possibly be into men?"

Nora looked at the paleness of her face with a hint of pity, "Jenny, I wish I was just being paranoid, but I tested him just now. If he truly loved you, he would have left with you."

Jenny shook her head vehemently, tears welling up in her eyes.

"No, I don't believe it. Paul loves me; we're about to get married!"

The wedding was just around the corner, but her fiancé might be gay. Such a revelation would be hard for anyone to accept.

With a heavy heart, Nora sighed softly and squeezed Jenny's hand, feeling she was being cruel.

But she believed facing a harsh truth now was better than a worse revelation after the wedding.

The two women trailed Paul in silence until they reached a hotel.

As Paul got out of his car and headed for the hotel, Jenny, biting her lip, asked, "What's he doing at a hotel?"

Nora paused before speaking. "Isn't Kim here for a shoot?"

Jenny turned paler. "Yes, Kim's hotel is indeed this one."

"So Paul is here to see Kim." Nora's words were kind but delivered with an unavoidable harshness.

Jenny's tears cascaded freely down her cheeks.

"Why like this? Paul seems so normal! Why would he like men?"

Nora held her hand tightly. "Is he normal? Jenny, you're about to marry him, but has he ever expressed any desires towards you?"

They had lived together for two years, and even when she deliberately dressed provocatively around him, he showed no interest whatsoever!

The most intimate thing he had ever done was to kiss her forehead.

She had thought of him as a gentleman, a rare good man, but she could never have imagined this.
Jenny's tears were falling faster now, her heart feeling as though it had been ruthlessly slashed.

Dabbing her tears away, she asserted, "No, Nora, maybe you've got it wrong. I need to see it for myself!"

Nora remained silent, opening the car door and leading Jenny into the hotel.

"Do you know Kim's room number, Jenny?"

"As his fitness coach, I know exactly where he's staying."

Jenny pressed the elevator button, and when its doors glided open, she stepped inside with Nora.

Ascending skyward, the elevator halted at the twenty-eighth floor.

With her lips clenched tightly and her steps faltering, Jenny plodded forward.

Nora understood her turmoil—the blend of fear and helplessness.

Wrapping an arm around her, Nora offered, "Jenny, just stand here. I'll go knock."

Jenny nodded wordlessly, taking her place to the side in silence.
