Chapter 50 Harass Her in Front of the Kids

"What are you two doing here again?" Aaron's frown deepened as he saw the Hamilton siblings appear.

"Aaron, I'm just worried about you," Suzy crouched down, her voice laced with concern. "I just wrapped up a film project, so I've decided to take a break. Thought I might spend some time with you."

Aaron remained silent, his displeasure clear.

Howard, on the other hand, examined Aaron's leg. "How are you feeling today, Aaron?"

"There's some sensation, but I still can't walk," Aaron responded honestly.
Howard glanced around. "Nora isn't here? I didn't ask in detail yesterday. How did she treat you?"

"She’s an herbalist," Aaron replied.

"Herbalist?"

Howard scoffed, "No offense, but to me, herbalists are just quacks. Aaron, if you'd let my team treat your leg a month ago, you'd probably be on your feet by now."

He believed in modern medicine.

In his eyes, nine out of ten herbalists were full of hot air.

Most of them lacked real knowledge or skill.

Aaron cast a sidelong glance at him. "Howard, the art of herbalism is profound. Don't be prejudiced against Nora."

"It's not prejudice, Aaron. I've heard she's a married woman fooling around behind her husband's back. Hard to trust someone with such a lack of integrity to have any real talent."

Aaron's expression turned cold.

Seeing the tension, Suzy quickly interjected, "Come on, Howard, whatever it is, we should still be thankful to Nora, right? After all, she took Aaron in."

Howard was about to retort but caught the warning look from Suzy and bit back his words.

Suzy, seeing Aaron's frosty demeanor, changed the subject.

"Aaron, I didn't get a chance to look around yesterday. Mind if I take a quick tour now?"

"This isn't my place, and the owner isn't home. Please don't wander around," Aaron said, his face still stoic.

Suzy's embarrassment flickered across her face. "We won't roam. Let's just see your room, okay?"

She was curious if there were any traces of another woman in Aaron's living space.

Aaron wheeled into a room on the first floor. "I stay here. Nora and the three kids live upstairs."

Suzy surveyed the modest room, her eyes betraying a hint of disdain.

The space was hardly half the size of their family bathroom.

She wondered how Aaron could stand living there.

Her eyes roamed until they landed on a photo frame in the corner, causing her to pause.

"Aaron, are these Nora's three kids?"

They were gorgeous!

Not just pretty, but they also bore a slight resemblance to Aaron!

"Yes."

Aaron's eyes softened as he looked at the photo of the mother and three children.

Howard leaned in for a closer look, surprise flashing in his eyes.

"These kids are quite good-looking, and they even resemble Aaron a bit."

Aaron's lips curled into a small smile. "Yeah, maybe that's what you call fate."
When Nora returned from dropping off the kids, she found two new faces in her normally private sanctuary. While she wasn't thrilled with unexpected visitors, she held back any signs of irritation, considering they were friends of Aaron's.

"You're here," she greeted.

"Nora, we just came to hang out with Aaron for a bit. Hope you don't mind?" Suzy said with a disarming smile.

"Not at all. I appreciate the extra hands to lighten my load," Nora replied with a muted enthusiasm before heading to the kitchen to fetch some freshly brewed herbal concoction for Aaron to drink.

Aaron downed the brew in one go, and Nora, in a fluid motion, wiped away a dribble of liquid from the corner of his mouth with a natural ease. She then handed him a strawberry. Their interaction was wordless, yet filled with an unspoken understanding.

Suzy watched this with a flicker of suspicion in her eyes. 'Nora has quite a way with Aaron,' she thought.

"What kind of medicine did you give Aaron, Miss Smith?" Howard asked abruptly, drawing Nora's attention.

She felt a prick of hostility from him and replied cautiously, "Are you a doctor?"

"Yes, I'm the youngest associate professor at Imperial City Hospital," Howard said, puffing up slightly.

Nora raised an eyebrow. "Are you trained in herbal medicine or conventional medicine?"

"Conventional medicine."

"Ah, then I won't bother explaining the herbal ingredients in this brew. Since I'm trained in herbalism, it wouldn't make sense to you anyway," she chuckled lightly.

Howard, taken aback, shot back coldly, "Miss Smith, Aaron mentioned you've been treating him with herbal remedies. Surely you're not just putting on an act?"

Nora smiled slyly. "The results speak for themselves, Mr. Howard. Wouldn't you agree, Aaron?"

Aaron's eyes twinkled with amusement. "Of course not. Miss Smith’s skills are authentic and valuable."

Suzy felt a twinge of discomfort as Aaron put his weight behind Nora's words right in front of her, but she maintained her poised smile.

"The fact that Aaron speaks so highly of you says a lot about your expertise, Miss Smith. I'm just curious, why haven't you pursued a career in a hospital? Is there a reason you chose a different path?"
"My brother is currently working on a research project at Central Hospital," Miss Hamilton offered casually, with an air of nonchalance that felt almost like a compliment. "If you're interested, Miss Smith, I could ask him to put in a word for you. Mind you, the standards for doctors there are pretty high. You'd likely have to start from the ground up as an intern."

Her words, meant to sound flattering, were subtly laced with a sense of superiority, implying that Nora was somehow inferior.

Nora responded with a playful smile, "Thanks for the offer, Miss Hamilton, but I'll pass. I'm more cut out for freelancing. Besides, if I run into generous clients like Mr. Gordon again, why would I need to punch a clock?"

Suzy choked on her words, finding herself at a loss.

Nora had a sharp tongue, indeed!

Her gaze fell upon Aaron, who was looking at Nora with a soft smile—one she seldom saw on him, even when he looked at herself. Her heart tightened at the thought.

Was Aaron actually fond of Nora?

Carrying a bowl of medicine to the kitchen, Nora's phone rang. It was an unknown caller, but she had no habit of ignoring such calls, so she answered.

"Hello, who's this?"

"Nora, it's Lucas's mother. Are you free right now? Let's meet up."

The call from Lucas's mother—Nora suspected she wanted to discuss her recent divorce from Lucas.

"I'm available," she replied calmly.

"Great. Let's meet at the Tea Bar on Central Street in half an hour."

After hanging up, Nora returned to the front hall.

"Mr. Gordon, since you have company, I'm going to step out for a bit."

Going out again?

Aaron's brow furrowed in slight annoyance, "Where are you headed?"

"It's personal," Nora replied as she gathered her things to leave.

"When will you be back?" Aaron's tone carried a hint of displeasure.

Glancing at the Hamilton siblings, Nora assured, "With folks here to look after you, Mr. Gordon, it's fine if I come back late. And don't worry, there's nothing of value, but please steer clear of my upstairs lab. Could you watch the house for me?"

He's being asked to house-sit!

Howard sneered as Nora departed, "She's got you watching the door now, Aaron? What does she take you for? "

Aaron remained silent, a trace of a smile playing on his lips.

They just didn't understand. She’s only this informal with someone she seen as family.
