Chapter 221 You're Too Heartless

There was a rustle of movement from inside the room. Jack followed Nora out, his face flushed with embarrassment.

"Nora, it's not what you think," he started but found himself at a loss for words. Clearing his throat, he tried to divert the conversation. "Did you need something?"

Truth be told, he had found Sue's advances irresistible, and the kiss had been unexpectedly delightful. Now, however, he was just embarrassed being caught like that.

"No, nothing urgent," Nora replied, a teasing sparkle in her eye as she observed Jack's discomfort. "I was just checking in on Sue's recovery. After all, a hearty dose of romance can sometimes be more potent than medicine."

Jack squirmed at her words. "Ugh… Please, Nora, stop teasing."

Nora couldn't help but chuckle. 'It's rare to see the always composed Jack so sheepishly bashful. He looks like the boy next door experiencing summer with his first crush. It's simply too amusing.'

"Can you two come in and talk?" called Sue from the bed.

"Coming, Sue!" Nora called back, smiling as she made her way into the room.

Approaching the bedside, she quipped, "You're looking radiant, Sue."

Sue shot Jack a bright smile. "It's all thanks to Jack's care."

"It shows. Jack's been quite attentive," Nora continued to banter.

Jack remained silent, opting to pour some water for Nora instead as he attempted to hide his embarrassment.

Sue then asked, "Is there something on your mind?"

Nora nodded. "Yes, actually, Baldwin's mother had a fall recently. I accompanied him to check on her, and it turned out that despite her paralysis, there was a possibility for her legs to recover. So, I was thinking of spending an hour each day to help treat her."

Given the remote location, travel was sure to eat up some time. It would depend on how Sue would manage her schedule.

After a glance at Jack, Sue suggested, "How about this; for the next couple of days, let Jack stay here, and you can use his lab. That way, you can make time for Baldwin's mother's treatment."

Upon hearing this, Nora gave Jack a look seeking approval. Jack handed her the water glass and nodded in agreement, "Sounds good."

Nora raised an eyebrow, took the glass, and teased, "Looks like you two will be in perfect harmony from now on?"

Sue responded with a smile, "I appreciate the matchmaking."

Nora spread her hands playfully, "Hey, don't just thank me verbally. Where's my bonus?"

Sue turned to Jack with a grin, "You hear that? Bonus, please!"

Jack pulled out his phone, ready to send money, "How much?"

Nora had to restrain her laughter, finding Jack's directness endearing. He truly was a man who kept his word!

At Houston airport, Suzy sat in the VIP lounge; her eyes slightly reddened. 'She was about to leave, and she was so unwilling. How could Aaron be so heartless towards her?'

'She had to check one more time! Maybe he might regret it and retract his punishment?' Suzy walked to a corner and pulled out her phone to call Aaron.

The phone rang a few times before finally being answered.

"Hello?" The man's voice was as magnetic as ever.

With tears in her eyes, Suzy asked in a quavering voice, "Aaron, are you truly so heartless? Do you have to drive me away?"

There was a silent moment on the line before Aaron replied, "Suzy If I were so heartless, I wouldn't let you go."

Hearing this, a glimmer of hope sparked in Suzy's eyes. "So, you still have feelings for me, right?"

Aaron said flatly, "Suzy, I've always seen you as a sister."

Suzy's face twisted at the words.

"Anything else? If not, I'm hanging up." After Aaron spoke, he hung up the phone.

Listening to the beeping tone in the silence, Suzy clenched her fingers, her eyes full of resentment.

'She wouldn't let this go. Someday, she would return to his side. She was determined to clash with Nora to the very end!'

"Suzy, it's time to board. Let's go," said Howard, carrying the luggage and specifically accompanying Suzy back to Lindwood City.

Suzy wiped her tears, put on her sunglasses, and tucked away all her emotions.

The pair left the waiting area, and Howard, with a casual glance, saw a woman not far away and narrowed his eyes to focus on her.

Four men in black surrounded the woman. Her shoulders were tense, and she looked both lost and feigned calm, a mix of confusion and false bravado.

Howard recognized the woman. It was Evella. Her current state seemed abnormal.

'Could she be being held against her will?' Howard's gaze hardened, and his expression grew serious.

Although he had lost his good impression of Evella after she had spoken up for Nora last time, Howard was still a man of justice.

Seeing Evella in danger, he couldn't just idly stand by.

Howard paused, glanced at an emergency sign with the police number not far off, and dialed the airport security number from his cell phone.

'Going in alone, he surely couldn't rescue her and might even risk endangering himself. It’s better to rely on the police.'

Soon, airport security approached Evella and her entourage. "Miss, someone reported that you stole something. Please come with us," one of the officers said.

Evella looked astonished. "Who did I steal from? I didn't steal anything." The four men in black stepped forward, giving the security officers a cold, warning stare.

Howard saw this and told Suzy to go ahead and board the plane while he approached the group. "Miss, you stole from me. Now go with them and hand over what you took," he demanded.

Evella recognized Howard, and her eyes widened in disbelief. "Howard, what did I steal from you? I know you might still be angry with me for contradicting you last time, but you can't just accuse me of theft because you hold a grudge."

Seeing the shock on Evella's face, Howard's resolve wavered.

'Had he made a mistake? If Evella was indeed being held, shouldn't she take this chance to go with security? But she not only called out his name but also looked genuinely surprised.' It seemed he'd made a colossal blunder embarrassing himself.

Then, someone pushed through the crowd. "What's going on here? Is there a problem?"

Hearing this, Howard looked at the newcomer, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. "Beckett?"

This was the steward of one of the wealthiest families in Lindwood City, the Remington family.
"Was that you, Mr. Hamilton? Are you also back in Lindwood City?" Beckett quickly greeted Howard.

Howard nodded slightly, his brows furrowed with suspicion, "What are you up to?"

"I'm here to introduce you. This is Evella, our matriarch's newly found granddaughter," Beckett said, introducing the two.

Howard looked at Evella with surprise written all over his face. 'She's the lost granddaughter of the Remington Family's matriarch from Lindwood City?'
