Chapter 350 Our Relationship is Merely Physical
Nora frowned. "Let go of me!" she demanded.
Aaron held her gently, coaxing, "Come on, can't you stop being angry? I'm not defending Edric; I just think that if it's all a misunderstanding, insisting on Edric and Jenny splitting up would only tear apart a couple in love. Have you considered how Jenny feels?"
Her hand stilled at trying to unwrap his, annoyed as she said, "You really still believe this is just a misunderstanding? Does it have to reach the point of catching them in the act for you to admit Edric is cheating?"
On hearing this, Aaron felt helpless and dared not linger on the topic.
"All right, all right, I'm wrong, I shouldn't speak for Edric. I'll stay out of his affairs from now on, okay?" eh proposed.
Nora calmed down. After a pause, she said to Aaron, "Aaron, I can wait and see about Edric and Jen's situation. Now, let's talk about us."
Aaron stared at her composed pretty face, his heart skipping inexplicably. "What do you want to talk about?" he asked, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Nora said, "I remember telling you that we were just each other's bed partners. So, I hope we can keep an appropriate distance from now on, and you should mind your own business more."
‘Just bed partners?!’ Aaron's brow furrowed deeply as he inwardly cursed Edric a blue streak.
The little lady was nearly ready to agree to marry him, but because of someone's meddling, everything had regressed!
Nora pried Aaron's hand away and got up to pour herself a drink.
Aaron held on to her, "Nora, are you still angry with me because of Edric? Don't you think that's a bit unfair to me?"
Nora's gaze was steady, "Aaron, we're just in a physical relationship, and if you feel wronged by me, you're free to find someone else. Our arrangement ends here."
Her expression was aloof and undisturbed, while Aaron's frown was so deep it could have trapped a fly.
He cursed Edric's ancestors all over again in his mind. He didn't blame Nora for the sudden change in her attitude.
Having been hurt by Lucas before, she had a mental block and had closed off her heart, unwilling to trust men again.
He had barely managed to coax her into opening up and gradually accepting him. But now, because of Edric's suspected infidelity, her heart had closed once more!
He felt incredibly frustrated. He wanted to win his beauty fair and square. Why was it so darn difficult?
In the hospital room, Kenneth looked at the pale-faced woman and a flicker of regret passed through his eyes.
Sandy was pregnant, and their child had nearly been lost because of his reckless actions! If anything had happened, he would never have forgiven himself. Fortunately, the child was safe.
Kenneth's heart eased a bit as he watched her sleeping face and took her hand.
While he had Zephyr investigated, his assistant also came across Cora Hernandez. Only when he saw Cora's photograph did he realize something was amiss.
So, he ordered his assistant to delve deeper into Cora Hernandez's background and that's when he unexpectedly uncovered his wife's real identity.
No wonder she seemed different after marrying him; he thought it was because he didn't know Sandy very well and was imagining things.
But he hadn't expected it to be a case of twin sisters switching places!
Thinking of the woman in front of him and realizing that although she was indeed a daughter of the Hernandez family, she had been burdened by what some charlatan of a wizard called a 'lone star of bad luck,' and could only spend her days in the countryside, a flash of unbidden sympathy crossed his eyes.
He didn't believe a word those so-called masters said. Fate was in one's own hands; there was no such thing as being cursed. It was all nonsense!
His mood darkened again as he thought about something else. He didn't care about his wife's social standing, but he did care about her feelings. Was it true that she and Zephyr were the perfect match for each other? And he was just an intruder.
If not for this marriage of convenience, she would probably be happily settled with Zephyr by now. Just thinking about it, made him feel agitated and restless. Not only was his wife harboring feelings for another man, but as a powerful man in the Hamilton family, had become the one meddling in someone else's relationship!
The ringtone of his cellphone suddenly pierced the silence of the room. Snapping back to reality, Kenneth quickly pressed the mute button and stood up to take the call outside.
The call was from home. His recent departure with Sandy must have been a surprise to his parents.
Kenneth called back. "Hello."
"Kenneth," Emma's voice came through, "the staff said you left carrying Sandy? Where are you two off to at this late hour?"
He answered, "She wasn't feeling well, so I took her to the hospital."
Emma sounded surprised, "Why is she unwell? Did she overdo it at some performance she attended?"
"That Sandy really doesn't behave like a lady of her standing. She still thinks she's a maiden untouched by the world," Emma lamented.
Kenneth frowned, "Mom, don't speak of her that way. Even if she's married, she's entitled to some fun. Besides, her feeling unwell isn't due to playing around—it's because of me."
"Because of you? What did you do to her?" Emma inquired.
Kenneth hesitated for a moment, "She's pregnant."
There was a brief silence on the line, followed by Emma's excited voice, "Kenneth, is it true? Is she truly pregnant?"
"Yes, we just got confirmation." Kenneth listened to his mother's excited voice and felt his mood lift somewhat.
He was going to be a dad!
"Oh, thank heavens, it's about time our hen laid an egg," Emma expressed with relief.
Kenneth's smile faltered slightly, and he said with displeasure, "Mom, what are you talking about?"
"No, no, I'm just so happy!" Emma quickly interjected, "Is everything okay with the baby? Which hospital are you at? I'll come right away."
He rejected his mother’s offer, and said, "There's no need, the baby is fine. I'll stay here with her tonight, and you can just have someone bring some porridge over in the morning."
"All right, Kenneth. This is the first grandchild in the Hamilton family. Take good care of her and the baby," Emma instructed carefully.
He replied, "Got it."
Kenneth hung up the phone, pinched the bridge of his nose out of fatigue, and turned to enter the hospital room.
Sandy's eyelashes trembled slightly as she slowly came to. Looking at the ceiling, her vision was still a bit blurry.
Seeing her awake, Kenneth quickly walked to the bedside and asked softly, "You're awake? Are you feeling, okay?"
Sandy slowly turned her head to look at him and after a moment's delay, her slender hand moved to her abdomen, her face filled with tension. "Kenneth, am I pregnant?" she asked.
"Yes," Kenneth replied.
"Is the baby, okay? Was there anything wrong?" Sandy asked urgently.
"Don't worry; the baby is just fine," Kenneth reassured her.
Sandy relaxed a little as she felt her stomach. She was a doctor, and logically, she should have realized she was pregnant right away.
But with all that had been on her mind lately and her identity being exposed, she was in such a state of panic that even when she noticed signs of early pregnancy, she hadn't considered that possibility.
It almost led to a miscarriage.
"Would you like to drink some water?" Kenneth noticed her dry lips and poured her a glass of water.
"Thank you," Sandy struggled to sit up.
Kenneth put a cushion behind her and handed her the water glass.
After taking a few sips of water and thinking about their current situation, Sandy tightened her grip on the water glass.
"Now that you know who I really am, what do you plan to do?" she asked as she braced herself.
