Chapter 907 Make an Example Out Of Someone

Jane cleared her throat. "So, this is how you talk about your boss behind his back, calling him an illegitimate son. Aren't you worried Mr. Wright will give you a hard time?"

Jane didn't mean to throw her weight around, but she had to establish some authority, or the subordinates would walk all over them.

Everyone glanced at the stone-faced Zephyr and instantly got the message. They shut up and scattered.

Abigail quickly approached them, all respectful. "Good morning, Mr. Wright."

Zephyr gave a slight nod and introduced Jane, "This is Ms. Harvey."

"Good morning, Ms. Harvey."

"Yes, take us to Mr. Wright's office," Jane said.

Abigail hesitated, looking a bit puzzled.

Jane asked, "What's the problem? Is it inconvenient?"

Abigail smiled awkwardly. "No, it's just that no one told us to prepare an office for Mr. Wright."

Was this a deliberate slight against Zephyr? A lesson from Hubert? Sounded like his style.

Jane raised an eyebrow and checked her watch. "It's already nine. Where's your General Manager, Victor Petrov? Is he here?"

"Not yet," Abigail replied.

Victor wasn't here yet? Jane's eyes sparkled with interest. "What time do you usually start work?"

"Normally, nine is considered late. Regular employees are generally required to be here fifteen minutes early," Abigail answered honestly.

"So, Mr. Petrov is late?" Jane asked.

Abigail stayed silent. When the bosses arrived wasn't her concern.

Just then, a voice called from behind them.

"Zephyr, Ms. Harvey, you're here early."

It was Hubert, with his assistant and four bodyguards in tow.

Abigail stood respectfully. "Good morning, Mr. Hubert Wright."

Hubert barely acknowledged her and glanced at Zephyr. "Zephyr, how long have you been here? Had a tour yet?"

Zephyr replied, "We just got here. Haven't toured yet."

"Alright, follow me," Hubert said.

His bodyguards quickly cleared the way, shoving Zephyr and Jane aside. Hubert strutted inside like he owned the place.

Zephyr and Jane exchanged a glance, a hint of mockery in their eyes. They stayed put, letting Hubert have his moment.

Inside, as Hubert walked, everyone greeted him with loud respect. He made a gesture for silence.

"Everyone, let me introduce Zephyr. From today, he's your boss."

"Though his background has some flaws and he lacks experience managing a company, don't discriminate against him. Give him a chance to learn. I appreciated your support on behalf of the Wright Group."

Hubert's words were more of a dig at Zephyr's incompetence than an introduction. Without his status as the Wright family's illegitimate child, Zephyr wouldn't be the general manager.

Sure enough, the crowd looked at Zephyr with disdain and contempt. They didn't think much of a leader like him.

Despite Hubert's jabs, Zephyr's face remained expressionless. He stood silently.

Seeing this, Hubert sneered inwardly, a trace of contempt in his eyes. He thought, 'Does Zephyr really think everything will be fine now that he's in the company?'

'I can't wait to see him leave in disgrace!'

Hubert looked around and asked, "Why haven't I seen Mr. Petrov? Hasn't he come to work yet? Doesn't he know Zephyr is coming today? Why hasn't he prepared for the reception?"

Hubert's questions were all setting up to mock Zephyr later.

"Mr. Hubert Wright, Mr. Petrov suddenly fell ill this morning. He just called to inform me that he won't be able to come to work today and asked me to apologize to Mr. Zephyr Wright," Victor's assistant, Oskar Lindgren, interjected.

Hubert raised an eyebrow and said, "Ill? How convenient. Mr. Petrov isn't showing enough respect for his boss. Even if he's sick, he should come and guide Zephyr."

Zephyr spoke up, "No need, Hubert. Our group has always been people-oriented. We don't require employees to work while sick. Since Mr. Petrov is ill, he should rest well. He can come back to work when he's recovered."

Hubert laughed. "Zephyr, you're so considerate. I'll thank you on behalf of Mr. Petrov."

Zephyr smiled. "No need to thank me. It's not about my consideration. It's just that Mr. Petrov might not be able to come to work for a long time."

Hubert was stunned. "Why? He'll get better soon."

Zephyr nodded. "Indeed, he'll get better. But if he's committed a crime, Mr. Petrov might have to report to the police first and wait for the truth to be revealed."

Hubert's smile faded. "Zephyr, what do you mean?"

Jane, fiddling with her phone, turned the screen towards Hubert. "Mr. Hubert Wright, breaking news. Victor has been taken from his home by the police for investigation on charges of embezzlement."

All the employees who had been watching the show, expecting Hubert to teach Zephyr a lesson, were now shocked by the news. Everyone held their breath, and some secretly checked the news on their phones.

Hubert's smile vanished, his eyes fixed on Jane's phone. Victor was one of his main confidants. And he had been taken away by the police this morning! Was this Jane and Zephyr's doing? Were they making an example out of him?

Hubert's face turned grim. Victor, as the General Manager of Medicovita Pharmaceuticals, must have done something illegal. But he had always been careful. And just yesterday, Hubert had specifically told Victor to clean up any personal matters as a precaution. Yet Zephyr and Jane still managed to dig up dirt on Victor.

Hubert's mind raced, and he couldn't care about the situation here anymore. "Mr. Petrov is a law-abiding citizen. I believe there must be some misunderstanding. It's just an investigation. I trust the judicial system won't wrong an innocent person."

Zephyr smiled calmly. "You're right, Hubert. As long as he hasn't done anything wrong, there's nothing to fear from an investigation."

Hubert's face darkened. "Today, Zephyr and Ms. Harvey, you'll have to familiarize yourselves with the business on your own. I'll make arrangements after I understand the situation."

Zephyr smiled slightly. "Hubert, since Dad entrusted the company to me, why don't you let me handle it? You're a busy man, managing such a large group. If you don't have time to run this branch, hand over it to me. If I have any questions, I'll come to you for guidance."

'Is Zephyr trying to work independently? Dream on!' Hubert thought.

Hubert sneered. "Zephyr, you're still too immature. But I'll let you play for now."

Once Zephyr had enough, he would deal with him!
