Chapter 787 Don't Be Too Nice to Men
Edric said, "At least Jenny is a natural beauty. Mom, I'm thinking about our family's future generations. You don't want the Bishop family's descendants to get worse with each generation, do you?"
Fiona frowned. "Ursula was also very pretty when she was young. Now she's just had a little adjustment and looks even prettier."
Edric didn't want to discuss this topic any further.
"Mom, you're worrying too much, and that's why your heart isn't doing well. If you want to live a long life, you should worry less."
Fiona glared at him. "If you want me to live a few more years, stop making me angry all the time."
"I'm not the one making you angry; I'm a dutiful son."
"A dutiful son? If you were a dutiful son, you wouldn't have secretly married Jenny without telling me!" Fiona was starting again!
Edric felt a bit suffocated.
At this moment, Ursula walked in with a plate of fruit.
"Edric, I cut some fruit for you to refresh yourself."
Ursula's entrance made Edric feel a lot more at ease.
"Thanks."
Fiona said, "Look how considerate Ursula is. When I wasn't feeling well, she took care of me the whole time. Unlike Jenny, who pretends not to know when I'm unwell."
Edric took the fruit Ursula handed him and said, "If seeing Jenny would make you feel better, I'll bring her over right now."
Fiona choked. "If you keep defending her, just get out of here. You're making me feel worse!"
Edric didn't say anything and popped the fruit into his mouth.
Ursula smiled and tried to smooth things over. "Auntie Fiona, don't be mad. Edric is the most dutiful man I've ever met. Having such a handsome, excellent, and dutiful son makes you a winner in life!"
Fiona responded, "He was a perfect son before he got married. After marriage, not so much."
Edric swallowed the fruit and furrowed his brow slightly. "Mom, there you go again!"
Fiona glared at him. "Ursula, look, he's about to scold me again."
Ursula laughed. "Edric would never scold you. You two have such a great relationship."
Fiona said, "You're the best at talking."
"I'm just telling the truth."
Ursula coaxed, "Auntie Fiona, you should get some sleep. Sleep is the best beautician for us women."
Fiona was indeed tired today. She nodded. "You're the sweetest. I'll listen to you."
Ursula helped her lie down.
Edric sat on the sofa without saying a word.
Once he was sure Fiona was asleep, he signaled Ursula to talk outside.
Ursula followed him out quietly.
Edric looked at her. "Ursula, you should know what my mom is thinking."
Fiona's thoughts were clear—she wanted Ursula to be Edric's wife.
Ursula blushed and didn't deny it.
Edric said, "I won't divorce my wife. If I were you, I'd give up the idea of marrying me as soon as possible."
Hearing this, Ursula bit her lip. "But Auntie Fiona likes me a lot. Edric, you and I are the perfect match. If you were with me, both your career and life would be better."
Edric said, "Marriage is a personal matter. My partner has to be someone I like. Ursula, I don't like you, and I have a great relationship with my wife. So please don't waste your time on me. I believe you're a smart person. Go get some rest."
Edric was always polite to women.
Even if he didn't like Ursula, Edric would still be courteous.
Unlike Aaron, whose expressionless face made people keep their distance.
In high society, Edric was more popular with women than Aaron.
Ursula was naturally deeply infatuated with him as well.
Watching Edric's figure as he walked away, the smile on her face quickly disappeared.
Ursula thought, 'Edric and Jenny have a great relationship?'
'If their relationship were so good, Jenny wouldn't be sneaking out to get drunk!'
The warm yellow light in the hallway illuminated the cold glint in Ursula's eyes.
'I won't give up just like that.'
'Edric would be mine sooner or later!'
Jenny didn't sleep well all night, plagued by bizarre dreams.
When she woke up the next day, it was already broad daylight.
The bed was empty, and the sheets were cold.
It was clear that Edric hadn't come home all night.
Jenny felt an indescribable sadness.
After lying in bed in a daze for a while, she got up and went to the bathroom to freshen up.
Once she was done, Jenny checked her phone to see if there were any updates on the official website.
The announcement from yesterday was still up.
Edric hadn't retracted the termination notice for Ulysses.
She didn't know if Edric hadn't spoken to the higher-ups at Galactic Media yet or if he simply didn't care about what she had said.
Jenny bit her lip and sent Edric a message.
Jenny: [I'm asking you one more time. Are you going to cancel Ulysses' termination notice?]
Not long after, Edric called her.
Jenny took a deep breath and answered the call.
"Hello."
"Jenny, my mom had an episode last night, and I didn't sleep well. Yet, upon waking, your first concern wasn't for me, but for Ulysses, a stranger. Is Ulysses more important to you than I am?" Edric's tone carried a hint of fatigue and disappointment.
Normally, Jenny would feel very sorry and apologetic.
But right now, she was furious.
"Your mom's heart condition isn't life-threatening. She's always using your filial piety to put on a show, and I'm supposed to play along?" Jenny's words were harsh.
Edric was a bit angry. "Jenny, how can you talk like that? She's my mom!"
Jenny retorted, "And I'm your wife. Have you considered my feelings?"
Edric said, "Of course I have. I told you, once we have a child..."
"Enough, Edric. I don't want to talk about this right now. I'm asking you, are you going to cancel Ulysses' termination notice or not?"
Jenny was fed up with Edric using the child as an excuse, and her tone was not pleasant.
Edric's temper flared up as well.
"Absolutely not!"
Edric's words were firm, and even though she couldn't see his face, Jenny knew how grim his expression must be.
Biting her lip, Jenny said nothing and hung up.
If it was the case, then she wouldn't hold back anymore!
At that moment, Jenny remembered what Becky had said.
Becky said that men were all jerks and that she shouldn't be too nice to them.
Had she, Jenny, been too nice to Edric all along, making him think she had no temper?
So whatever Edric said went.
The phone kept ringing. Jenny glanced at it; it was Edric calling.
She didn't want to talk to him, so she hung up.
Edric didn't call back. Jenny took a deep breath and dialed Nora's number.
At that moment, Nora was sleeping soundly in a luxury suite at the Oman Hotel.
Her phone was on silent mode, thanks to Aaron, so she didn't hear it ring.
Aaron had left early for a company meeting.
So, there was no one to remind Nora that she had a call.
