Chapter 142 How to Salvage the Situation

Hearing Aaron's words, Mary said with dissatisfaction, "Aaron, I'm your mother. How can I not be involved in your life? That woman is not right for you; you better get your mind straight."

Aaron's lips thinned, "Mom, just take care of yourself. Remember, don't go after her again, or don't blame me for being ruthless."

"Aaron, are you threatening me? I am your mother."

Before Mary could finish, Aaron hung up the call.

The chill around him hadn't entirely dissipated.

Thinking of Nora's attitude toward him gave him a headache.

He knew his mother's temper; she surely said some harsh things to Nora.

Being proud, Nora must be furious.
That's why he was so distant and cold, as if he'd decided to draw a line between them.

What could he do to salvage the situation?

The next day.

Nora overslept.

Because Jenny had one too many drinks last night, she threw a tantrum and cried till the wee hours of the morning.

It took some effort to calm her down before she could finally sleep.

Perhaps due to exhaustion, even Nora, who usually woke up early, failed to rise on time.

When she woke up, it was already past eight.

Luckily, it was Sunday. There was no need to rush to the hospital or to take the kids to school.

Nora glanced at Jenny, who was still asleep beside her; her expression softened.

Hopefully, after last night's release, her best friend would find her spirit again and make a fresh start.

"Nora, I'm thirsty."

Jenny opened her tired eyes, mumbling sleepily.

"Just a sec, I'll make you some honey water," Nora said, getting out of bed.

"Nora, you're so good to me."

Jenny could barely keep her eyes open, her voice husky and tender.

"And you're my best friend, aren't you?" Nora responded with a smile, then headed downstairs.

She could faintly hear the voices of three little ones.

Her kids were awake!

Nora's smile grew wider as she saw her three well-behaved children sitting quietly in the dining room, having breakfast, her face apologetic.

"Sorry, darlings, Mommy woke up late today."

They were the most understanding and adorable kids in the world.

No worries for her at all!

"Mom, it's okay. Is Auntie Jenny upset? Is that why you were with her?" Alex asked perceptively.

"Yes, she broke up with that jerk and is slightly down."

Nora glanced at the kids' breakfast and was surprised.

"This isn't just any breakfast; it looks straight from a fancy hotel. Where'd you get it?"

"Mom, I'm sad too," whispered Samantha softly.

"Why's that, sweetie?" Nora asked curiously, her thoughts interrupted.

"Because Mr. Gordon wasn't here this morning to do my hair!"

Samantha touched her unbound soft hair, pouting.

The brothers exchanged glances, their eyes agreeing but remaining silent.
Without Mr. Gordon, something just felt off. They were not used to it!

Nora was speechless. Aaron spoiled them, especially her daughter.

And now, his absence had made her unhappy.

She glanced at the breakfast and walked to help Samantha with her hair.

"Where did all this breakfast come from?"
"Breakfast was delivered courtesy of Mr. Gordon!" Samantha replied.

Nora had a hunch, a slight furrow marking her brow: "Why would he send breakfast?"

"Because I called Mr. Gordon. He knew you were still asleep, so he had Noe bring it over," Samantha explained softly.

Observing Nora's expression, Alex ventured, "Mom, are you upset?"

Billy chimed in, "Mom, did you and Mr. Gordon fight?"

Those boys were just too sensitive.

After braiding her daughter's hair, Nora said quietly, "No. But Mr. Gordon has his own life, and we have ours. So, you kids shouldn't bother him anymore, okay?"

The three kids blinked their dark eyes, watching Nora take her honey water upstairs, their little heads coming together in a huddle.

Alex said, "Mom must have fought with Mr. Gordon."

"Why would they fight? Could it be Mr. Gordon showed her a scary movie, which freaked her out?" Billy wondered aloud.

Samantha pouted, "I'm sure Mr. Gordon didn't mean to. Now, what do we do?"

The brothers exchanged glances. Billy tentatively suggested, "If Mr. Gordon scared her with a horror movie, why don't we get them to watch another movie together?"

Samantha's eyes twinkled. "Yeah, yeah, but it can't be a scary movie again. Something with kissing so Mom can forgive Mr. Gordon!"

Alex fell silent, thinking, "That's a romance movie. Watching a romance could help bring them closer."

"Okay, that settles it. I'll look it up online later, and we'll get Mom and Mr. Gordon to go to the movies," Alex decided.

"That makes sense. The movie theater is the perfect setting," Billy agreed.

Samantha batted her eyelashes. "Can I go watch the movie with them?"

Billy rolled his eyes at her and said, "Sis, we're trying to nudge Mom and Mr. Gordon together; don't be a third wheel."

Samantha thought to herself, "Fine! But once Mom and Dad get married, I'll make them take me to the movies!"

Upstairs.

Nora handed Jenny the honey water to drink.

Jenny downed it in one go and climbed out of bed.

"Not going to sleep a bit more?" Nora asked.

Jenny rubbed her throbbing temples and shook her head, "No, I've got to work."

"Maybe take the day off?" Nora suggested.

Jenny scoffed, "I'm not missing out on making money because of some no-good jerk."
It would have been great if she could see it that way.

Nora's lips curved slightly as she rummaged through the closet for fresh clothes.
Yawning, Jenny rubbed her tousled hair, readying herself for her morning routine.

Then her phone rang.

Jenny picked it up, her brows knitting together at the caller ID.

It was Edric on the line.

These days, she harbored little affection for any man other than her father and Jack.

"Hello? Why are you calling?" Jenny's tone was less than friendly.

Edric's voice, warm and teasing, came through: "Jenny, I'll be at Star River Bay in ten minutes. Are you up yet?"

Jenny remained silent.

What was Edric doing coming to Star River Bay?

"Edric, what's this about?"

"I'm picking you up for work."

Again, Jenny lapsed into silence.

"You got to be kidding me! Is Edric picking her up for work? Is he out of his mind?" Jenny thought to herself.

"Edric, I know how to work. Thank you very much. Besides, I have no ties to you; you don't need to go out of your way for me."

She had made that clear at the last party; why was he still pestering her?

"Sounds like you're full of energy. So everything's cool?"

Edric didn't seem bothered, and his voice still held a trace of humor.

Jenny frowned. "Did you hear about my situation? Is that why you're calling to make fun of me?"

Aaron must have mentioned it last night. And since he was tight with Edric, it would explain how Edric knew.

"Do I look like I have that much free time?"

"Well, it seems to me like you do!"
