Chapter 310 Tender and Considerate Towards the One You Love
"Are you nervous?" Aaron asked, noticing that Nora hadn't said a word as he took her hand in his.
"Not quite, just a bit sentimental," Nora replied.
Aaron pulled her close, and as they approached the villa neighborhood, he thought to himself that he needed to find a way to integrate Nora fully into his family's life.
They soon arrived at the Hamilton family's villa. The servant came to open the door, leading the trio across the expansive lawn and into the foyer.
Ebenezer had been awaiting their arrival in the living room for quite some time. Apart from Howard, who had yet to return from Houston, everyone else was present.
"Uncle, Aunt, Kenneth, Suzy," Aaron greeted them as he walked in.
Nora smiled at everyone as her way of saying hello.
Ebenezer greeted them warmly, noticing the servant carrying bags, and said, "Why bring so many things? There was no need to buy so much."
Aaron wrapped an arm around Nora, "It's Nora's first time coming home; she should bring something for all of you."
He deliberately reminded everyone that this was also Nora's home.
Nora was caught off guard by Aaron's gesture. Although she did not wish to get involved with the Hamilton family, she did not wish to contradict Aaron in front of them either.
Ebenezer's smile grew even wider as he looked at Nora and said, "Nora, that's very thoughtful of you."
At that moment, he particularly appreciated Aaron's words. Home. If only his daughter would truly consider this place her home.
"Aaron, have a seat. Get the guests some tea," Emma said indifferently, gesturing for Aaron to sit.
Aaron nodded slightly and settled onto the couch, still holding Nora close.
The servant began to serve tea, and Aaron said, "Please, give her a glass of water instead. She can’t sleep at night if she drinks tea at this hour."
Upon hearing this, the servant quickly fetched a glass of water for Nora.
Susy had been watching Aaron ever since he came through the door. Seeing how tenderly he cared for Nora, and the undisguised affection in his eyes, made her nearly wild with jealousy.
‘Why could they still be so affectionate now? Didn’t Nora know about Aaron and Sunny? Did she not care at all?’ Suzy wondered.
As the servant brought over a glass of water, Susy couldn’t help but say, "Aaron, you're so attentive to Nora. Is it because you did something wrong?"
It was a pointed reminder to everyone not to forget the scandal that had been in the news.
Aaron glanced at her, his voice tinged with indifference, "For the person I love, I’ve always been considerate and gentle."
Suzy choked on her words, thinking of the past.
He had been nice to her before, but it was only on the surface, lacking the kind of doting that could provoke jealousy in others.
‘So, did he not love her? No! It had to be that he had done something wrong and was now trying to please Nora on purpose!’ Suzy convinced herself.
"Aaron, tell me, what’s the deal with this news story?" Ebenezer asked with a cold expression on his face.
Aaron paused for a second before replying, "Uncle Ebenezer, I was careless with the news matter, I offer my sincerest apologies."
It was his oversight that had allowed others to take advantage. He needed to remind himself to be more vigilant.
Hearing his response, Ebenezer's expression grew even sterner.
"Nora, you sit for a while. Kenneth, Sandy, you two get acquainted. Aaron, come with me to the study," Ebenezer instructed.
He wanted to question Aaron privately about what had truly happened!
Nora caught Aaron's glance, and he offered her a reassuring smile before turning to Sandy, "Please take care of Nora for me."
He was concerned that Nora might be mistreated in his absence.
Sandy smiled broadly, "Don’t worry, I'll look after Nora."
Aaron nodded slightly to the rest and then followed Ebenezer to the study.
As soon as they entered, Ebenezer demanded, "So, did you truly do something to betray Nora?"
Aaron denied it, "No."
“No? Then the story in the news is false?” inquired Ebenezer.
"It’s not false, the news is true. I did spend the night with Sunny, but nothing happened between us," Aaron explained.
Ebenezer narrowed his eyes slightly as he said, "If nothing happened, why did you spend a whole night at the hotel with Sunny?"
Aaron met his gaze as he replied, "Uncle… when you spent a night with Nora’s mother, it wasn’t voluntary, was it?"
The mention of this darkened Ebenezer's expression, a frown creasing his brow.
"You’re saying you were set up?" Ebenezer questioned.
"Yes," Aaron replied, bluntly.
"Who set you up? Sunny?" Ebenezer probed, further.
"Yes…" Aaron paused, "And Suzy too."
Hearing this, Ebenezer was taken aback, "What? Suzy set you up?"
"Yes." Aaron promptly responded, "It was Suzy who put Sunny up to this. She lured my Special Assistant away and drugged me."
Ebenezer stared at him, somewhat in disbelief, "Why would Suzy do such a thing?"
No wonder she wanted to give Sunny a spokesperson contract this morning. It turns out she wanted to seal Sunny's lips with bribes!
"Uncle, it's not the first time Suzy has targeted Nora," Aaron confessed bluntly.
"Back in Houston, she even had Sunny plagiarize Nora's academic paper, pinning the blame of plagiarism on Nora. If Nora hadn't truly been talented, her medical career could have been ruined," he added.
Hearing this, Ebenezer's face turned even more sour as he spoke, "Is that so?"
This adopted daughter of his always seemed so gentle and demure in front of him. Who would have thought she would do such dishonorable things?
Probably because she was too spoiled by his wife.
Ebenezer's face couldn't hide his disappointment. The room fell silent as he looked pensive.
Aaron could have also divulged Suzy's hiring of a hitman. But considering Suzy had once saved him, he still wanted to save her some dignity.
If it was just minor mischief, Ebenezer would probably just scold her. But if he learned about Suzy's hiring of a hitman, he would surely send her to prison. And Emma was very fond of Suzy and would surely not agree.
If the two of them started a huge argument over this, Emma would surely blame Nora. That would only add obstacles to Nora's journey to reclaim her heritage.
He didn't want to see such an outcome.
Moreover, he and Nora had already discussed a strategy to pit Suzy against Sunny, so there was no rush.
After a long pause, Ebenezer spoke up, "Suzy is not getting any younger, she should get married, to keep her from bothering your Nora."
Aaron raised an eyebrow slightly, "You're right."
Having Suzy married off might be a good thing. Perhaps married life would keep her behaved? After all, he had known Suzy since childhood, he still hoped Suzy could turn out all right.
"Aaron, I'll give Suzy a warning later. But are you sure you haven't wronged Nora?" Ebenezer asked.
Aaron snapped back to reality, wearing an expression of calmness. "No," he said.
Ebenezer narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "Weren't you drugged? How can you be so sure you haven't done anything wrong to Nora?"
Aaron's lips curved into a smile. "Because a friend of mine pulled some strings to get Sunny to spill the truth."
Thank goodness for Quinn.
Otherwise, who knows if his future father-in-law might have resorted to breaking up the lovebirds today.
"That's good. Just be more careful in the future to avoid giving people an opportunity to exploit you," Ebenezer advised him, seemingly convinced.
"I understand," Aaron replied. He paused before asking, "Uncle, are you not going to allow Nora to return to her family's lineage?"
"Of course not! I'm still devising a foolproof plan!" Ebenezer declared.
It didn't matter much to him if he lost face, but he couldn't let the family's reputation suffer. He needed a good strategy!
" To be frank, I have an idea," Aaron offered.
