Chapter 926 See How He Would Defeated Hubert
Finnegan served Mason a bowl of soup. "Grandpa, I've been swamped these past two days."
He'd been waiting, but Zephyr hadn't shown up.
Was Zephyr just giving up?
If so, what a letdown.
"No matter how busy you are, you can always make a call, right?" Mason grumbled. "I want to meet my savior. Go find him so I can thank him in person."
Finnegan's eyes flickered. Bringing Zephyr here would give him a reason to ask for help. That wouldn't work.
Just as he was about to make an excuse, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and raised an eyebrow. It was Zephyr.
"Grandpa, I need to take this call."
Finnegan stepped out and answered the phone by the window. "Hello?"
"Mr. Foster, it's Zephyr."
"Yeah, what's up?"
"Do you have time at noon?"
"I'm pretty busy. Why?"
"I made some homemade wine and wanted you to try it."
Finnegan's interest piqued. "You made it yourself?"
"Yes, Mr. Foster. Not to brag, but it tastes pretty good. Would you do me the honor?"
"Did you really make it yourself? Not just bought it to fool me?"
"Mr. Foster, I don't lie. You'll know if it's homemade or not once you taste it."
Finnegan smiled, intrigued. "Alright, you know Whispering Pines Diner? I have a meeting there at noon."
"I know it. See you then."
"Okay."
Finnegan hung up and dialed another number. "Mr. Hubert Wright."
"Mr. Foster, hello. I've been waiting for your call. Are you free now?"
"Yes, let's meet at Whispering Pines Diner at noon."
"Great, lunch is on me."
Finnegan smiled but didn't commit. He had set up a meeting with both Hubert and Zephyr. He wanted to see how Zephyr, the illegitimate son, would defeat Hubert and secure the contract.
At the apartment, Zephyr and Jane were thrilled Finnegan agreed to meet. They started preparing. The wine was just the start. If Finnegan's attitude softened, they could discuss cooperation.
In the car, Jane drove while Zephyr reviewed the project proposal, not missing a detail. He anticipated Finnegan's questions and prepared his responses.
Zephyr was confident but didn't expect Finnegan to arrange a meeting with both him and Hubert.
Whispering Pines Diner was in a wetland park, surrounded by mountains and water, with beautiful scenery.
Hubert had already arrived and was fishing with Finnegan. After a while, Hubert couldn't stay calm.
"Mr. Foster, about our cooperation..."
"Wait, the fish is about to bite," Finnegan cut him off.
Hubert got the hint and stayed quiet, focusing on fishing.
After waiting for days, Hubert thought it was a long shot, but then Finnegan called him. This meant Finnegan was interested in working with him.
Hubert wasn't after profit, just cooperation. As long as Finnegan wasn't foolish, he'd agree.
When Jane and Zephyr arrived, they saw the two men fishing.
"Finnegan called Hubert too?" Jane whispered, frowning.
Zephyr felt uneasy. The external conflict remained unresolved, and now Hubert was here, which only served to ignite a new internal struggle.
"Mr. Wright is here. He also wanted to discuss cooperation. I thought we could do it together. You don't mind, do you?" Finnegan greeted Zephyr with a smile.
Zephyr smiled back. "I don't mind."
Hubert didn't expect Zephyr to be invited too. Seeing Finnegan's cheerful demeanor, he sneered inwardly. Finnegan was clearly setting up a show.
"Zephyr, what did you bring?" Finnegan asked.
"Some homemade wine. I know you like to drink, so I brought it for you to taste," Zephyr said.
Hubert looked surprised. "You made the wine yourself?"
"Yes. Want to try some too, Hubert?" Zephyr placed the bottle on the table.
"You seem to have a lot of free time," Hubert mocked.
"I do, thanks to you handling things for me," Zephyr replied with a slight smile. "Hubert, you're too kind. You know I'm new and not good at managing, so you've been secretly helping me. If Mr. Foster hadn't invited me today, I wouldn't have known how much you've done for me behind the scenes."
His tone was calm, but Hubert caught the sarcasm. Zephyr was calling him out for being sneaky.
Hubert wanted to snap back but kept a smile with Finnegan present. "Well, I am your brother, after all."
Finnegan gave Zephyr a meaningful look. Zephyr was good at playing along.
"People say you two don't get along, but it seems that's not true. Rumors are unreliable," Finnegan remarked.
Zephyr smiled lightly. "Of course, even though we don't share the same mother, we've always been close."
Finnegan looked at him. "So, you two have already discussed it. If our families cooperate, the Wright Group won't make a penny?"
Hubert did business like this?
Zephyr glanced at Hubert, lips pressed together. Hubert really didn't care about anything when it came to competing for projects.
Hubert felt awkward under Zephyr's gaze. Seeing Finnegan's fishing rod move, he quickly said, "Mr. Foster, the fish is biting."
Finnegan reeled in the rod, pausing the conversation.
The fish needed cleaning, and Zephyr glanced at Jane. She understood and said to Finnegan, "Mr. Foster, I'll help you."
Finnegan didn't refuse and left with her, leaving Hubert and Zephyr alone.
"Hubert, are you really planning to cooperate with Finnegan without making a penny?" Zephyr asked directly.
