Chapter 869 Countless Suitors Attracted

Nora spent eight grueling hours performing surgery on Mateo.

Finally, it was done.

She and her medical team stepped out, looking exhausted.

Hugo and the others rushed over.

"Dr. Smith, how's Prince Mateo?"

"The surgery went well. His vital signs are stable for now," Nora replied.

"Thank God," Hugo and Aisha said, clasping their hands in relief.

"Dr. Smith, you must be wiped out," Seraphina said, concern etched on her face. If she hadn't been taking care of Millie, she would've loved to watch and learn from the surgery. What a missed opportunity!

Nora smiled and glanced around. "Where's Millie?"

"Jasmine took her to rest," Seraphina said, helping Nora to the sofa.

Aisha brought over some water. "Dr. Smith, have some water. You must be starving. The kitchen kept dinner warm for you; you can eat right away if you want."

"Thank you," Nora said, gulping down half a glass of water and smiling gratefully.

"It's nothing, really," Aisha replied.

Nora felt a bit guilty. "I'm sorry; today's mess was probably my fault. Those men in black were after me."

Aisha and Hugo exchanged a look. "Don't say that. If anyone's to blame, it's the people who dragged you into this," Aisha said, hinting at something unspoken.

Nora didn't push further.

"Alright, it's late. You all should get some rest. I'll grab something to eat first."

It was close to 2 AM, and everyone was exhausted.

Aisha and Hugo arranged rooms for everyone and went to bed.

James also turned in for the night.

Seraphina, Noe, and Frederick stayed with Nora a bit longer.

They only went to bed after she finished her meal.

Nora headed to her room, quickly washed up, and hit the sack.

But she didn't sleep well. Even though Mateo had been saved, he wasn't out of the woods yet.

Only when Mateo woke up would he be truly safe.

So, after just three or four hours, Nora woke up.

She got dressed and went downstairs to check on Mateo.

He was still out cold.

She felt his forehead; he had a slight fever.

This was normal since Mateo had an infection.

Nora didn't go back to her room. Instead, she went to the kitchen, made some soup, and then sat by Mateo's bed.

It was already dawn, and the birds at Whispering Woods Resort were chirping.

Since everyone had gone to bed late, they didn't wake up early.

The servants in the manor were quietly doing their tasks, waiting for the hosts and guests to wake up.

The first to wake up was Mateo.

He came to, staring at the unfamiliar ceiling with a dazed look.

Mateo slowly turned his head and saw Nora sleeping by the bed.

The light from outside the window fell on her face through the curtains, highlighting her peaceful sleeping face.

Mateo stared at her, a gentle expression crossing his face.

He slowly raised his hand, wanting to touch Nora's hair.

At that moment, Nora seemed to sense something; her eyelashes fluttered, and she opened her eyes.

When she saw that Mateo was awake, her eyes lit up.

"You're awake?"

As she spoke, Nora got up to feel Mateo's forehead.

Mateo's hand was still in the air, feeling the cool touch of Nora's hand, a hint of regret in his eyes.

If only she hadn't wake up.

It would be nice if he could touch her or even kiss her!

"You still have a slight fever, but it's not a big deal," Nora said, breathing a sigh of relief. "How do you feel?"

Mateo looked at her, smiling. "Such a beautiful angel. When I woke up, I thought I was dead."

Nora chuckled. "Don't jinx me. Life's too beautiful; I'm not ready to die yet."

Mateo grinned and said, "Nora, I took a knife for you yesterday. Aren't you touched?"

Nora was busy looking for the medicine he needed. "Not really," she replied.

Mateo's smile froze. "Not really?"

"Yeah, the trouble was caused by you. Without you, I wouldn't have been targeted. So it's already good that I'm not blaming you," Nora said.

Mateo clutched his chest dramatically. "Nora, I'm still a patient. Can't you say something nice to comfort me?"

Nora looked at his exaggerated expression and said calmly, "You're Prince Mateo; your mental strength isn't that weak."

Mateo laughed. "Nora, I like you so much."

Nora found the medicine, poured a glass of water, and handed it to him. "You like my cold heart?"

Mateo laughed again. "No matter what you're like, I like you."

Nora didn't want to joke around. "Take your medicine quickly. I'll go check if breakfast is ready."

Mateo said, "Aren't you going to feed me the medicine?"

Nora glanced at his hand. "Should I break your hand first and then feed you?"

Mateo laughed again. "You're really a heartless woman."

Nora rolled her eyes at him, handed him the medicine and water, and left the room.

Everyone else was up by then. Seeing Nora come out of Mateo's room, they quickly asked about his condition.

"Don't worry, he's awake," she said.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

"Let's have breakfast first," Aisha suggested.

"What about Prince Mateo? What can he eat?" Hugo asked.

"I made some soup for him this morning. You don't have to worry," Nora said.

Nora went to the kitchen to get the soup and was about to take it to Mateo's room.

Noe and Frederick exchanged a glance and both reached out to Nora.

"Dr. Smith, let us take care of Prince Mateo," they offered.

Nora blinked, looking at Noe and then at Frederick, finding it amusing. "Alright, you take care of him."

Aaron's two loyal right-hand men were here to keep an eye on her for Aaron.

Noe took the bowl of soup, and he and Frederick went to Mateo's room.

Frederick stood guard outside while Noe went in with the soup.

Mateo was eagerly waiting, thinking he had another chance to spend time with Nora. Maybe he could even act a bit spoiled and have Nora feed him breakfast.

But Mateo didn't expect Noe to come in.

His smile froze. "Where's Dr. Smith?" he asked.

Noe walked to the bed and sat in the chair. "Dr. Smith is on the phone with Mr. Gordon and asked me to take care of you."

Noe lied effortlessly, deliberately mentioning Aaron to remind Mateo that Nora was a married woman.

Mateo stared at Noe, smirking. "Mr. Gordon went to the base. There shouldn't be any signal there. How could Dr. Smith reach him?"

Noe glanced at him, thinking this Mateo was not easy to fool. "Prince Mateo, let me tell you about Dr. Smith's romantic history."

Mateo squinted. "Romantic history?"

"Yes, you don't know, Dr. Smith is very popular with men. She has more suitors than Mr. Gordon. Every man she saves falls in love with her. Movie stars, rich heirs, ex-husbands, and heirs of superfamilies. Her suitors are countless!" Noe said.
