Chapter 323 How She Became a Witch
"But Sandy, she..." Nora was anxious and turned to look at Sandy, only to see Kenneth had rushed over and was taking off his blazer to smother the flames.
Harper Long grabbed a cup of iced water from a waiter and doused the fire with it. Fortunately, the flames were weak and quickly extinguished.
Nora hastily pulled away from Aaron's grasp and ran to Sandy's side. "Sandy, are you okay?"
If it had not been for Sandy pulling her away, the consequences could have been dire, as there were numerous instances of people being injured by firecrackers.
Sandy's face was pale, her soul still trembling from the shock. But she forced a smile, "I'm okay."
Her husband chided, "How can you be, all right? Your arm is injured."
Kenneth draped his suit jacket over Sandy, his gaze falling on the burn on Sandy's arm. The atmosphere around her grew tense, a hint of aggression flashing in her eyes.
"Let me have a look." Nora carefully examined Sandy's injury and quickly pulled out a silver needle from her handbag to administer acupuncture.
After Nora finished her treatment, Kenneth observed Sandy's disheveled appearance, his icy gaze sweeping across the room.
"Who did this?"
The people nearby looked around, and someone said, "It seems like it was a little boy."
A guest added, "Yeah, I think it was the Moore family's kid playing around. He tossed a firecracker."
The Moore family's child?
Kenneth's jaw tightened as he prepared to confront the Moores.
At that moment, Zephyr approached with the little boy in tow. "He's the one who threw the firecracker," he stated.
Kenneth glanced at Zephyr, his attention then shifting to the young boy, his expression stern.
"Speak up, why did you throw a firecracker at someone?"
Having battled in the fierce world of commerce, his stern face carried an intimidating authority that could easily scare someone.
Seeing his cold face, the little boy burst into tears.
"Daddy, Mommy, come here quick!" the boy cried.
Soon, Mr. and Mrs. Moore pushed through the crowd, with Luna Moore following behind.
"What's wrong, what's wrong? Don't cry, dear, did someone bully you?" Mrs. Moore embraced her child and comforted him.
"He's so mean!" the boy complained.
With his parents by his side, the boy gathered the courage to hide in his mother's embrace and point accusingly at Kenneth.
Mr. Moore, the elder son of the Moore family, looked at Kenneth. Despite the renowned reputation of the Hamilton family, which made him cautious, he respectfully asked, "Why are you being so harsh with my son, Mr. Kenneth? Did my little boy offend you in any way?"
Kenneth's face remained stern. "You should ask your son what he just did."
Turning to his son, Mr. Moore gently asked, "Tell Daddy, son, what did you do just now?"
The boy glanced at Nora and pointed at her, "I used the firecracker to reveal the true form of the witch!"
Nora was left speechless. How did she become a witch?
"There's no such thing as a siren here. You are not allowed to watch 'Journey to the West' anymore."
The scion of the Moore family had just heard the commotion and immediately understood.
He scolded his son briefly, then turned to Kenneth.
"Miss Hamilton, my apologies. My son must have been watching too much animation and started imitating the characters. Please be generous and don't punish the child, he’s still immature."
Kenneth’s face was a mask of cool displeasure. Even though he was displeased, he knew better than to take a child’s actions to heart.
Nora, who had been observing from behind, watched the little boy with a stirring in her heart.
The boy’s target had been quite clear; he aimed straight at her with a popper. Why her and not someone else? Wasn't that a bit odd?
Her gaze fell on Luna Moore who stood behind the Moores. She saw Luna looking at her with unfriendliness in her eyes.
A child’s behavior is often learned from or taught by adults. And since the child was a Moore, could it be that Luna was the one who taught him this behavior?
Thinking about it, Nora stepped forward, bent down slightly, and looked at the little boy.
"Kid, do you think you're the Monkey King?" she asked, gently.
The little boy looked up at her with an innocent voice, declaring, "Yes, I'm the Monkey King, and I’ll reveal your true form!"
Nora shook her head, "I think you’re not the Monkey King, but more like his silly older brother who can't tell the difference between humans and monsters. Look, I'm fine. Now tell me, who told you I was a witch?"
The boy instinctively glanced at Luna Moore and blurted out, "Auntie did." It was indeed Luna Moore’s handiwork!
Nora straightened up and looked coldly at Luna.
Luna's face changed color, and she glared at the boy. What a foolish thing to do - hadn't she instructed him not to confess her involvement?
And just like that, Nora had coaxed the truth out of him with a few words.
"The Moore family seems to have a very interesting way of instructing their young," Aaron said, he had been silent until now, stepped up beside Nora, his gaze cold as ice.
Mr. Moore was taken aback, having not anticipated that his sister would instigate his child into such behavior.
"Luna, what's gotten into you? Why would you encourage him to throw poppers at people? Apologize right now!"
Luna looked at Nora, her face stubborn as ever. "Why should I apologize to her? She's nothing but a temptress, already a mother of three, still seducing Gary. She deserves to be taught a lesson!" she lashed out.
"Shut your mouth!" Master Moore shouted in anger.
"I won't! Brother, she's just a shameless vixen!" Luna insisted, stubbornly.
With a slap, Master Moore smacked her face. "Luna, you've been spoiled rotten by Dad and Mom. Do you want to ruin the Moore family?"
This little sister seemed oblivious to the gravity of the situation. Was she trying to offend both the Hamilton family of A Lindwood Citynd the Gordons of Houston?
He had slapped her partly for show, to appease both families. After all, if either family got involved, it wouldn't just be Luna Moore’s downfall alone.
Luna, holding her cheek, looked at her brother in disbelief. "Brother, you hit me!" she cried in disbelief.
"I did it to wake you up. Now apologize, immediately!" Master Moore said, even though it pained him.
Luna’s eyes reddened, and she stubbornly remained silent.
Just then, Gary stepped forward from the crowd.
"Luna Moore, to think you incited your nephew to attack Nora, don’t you think you are quite the spectacle!" he remarked, snidely.
Luna looked at him, a mix of hurt and shame, "It's all because of you. If you hadn't provoked me, would I have done this?"
Gary let out a scornful laugh, "You need to see a psychiatrist. You're sick!" With that, he turned and walked away.
"Gary!" Luna wanted to chase after him but was stopped by Aaron.
"Hold on, you think you can just leave?" Aaron said, coldly.
Master Moore quickly interjected, "Luna, apologize to them now."
Luna felt an intense sense of injustice, "I'm not wrong, she's the one seducing Gary!"
"You!" Master Moore was frantic, wishing he could see into his sister's head to find if it was filled with mush.
Aaron’s gaze was icy, "Truly unrepentant. Frederic!"
"Here." Frederic appeared.
He had just finished some personal business in Houston the day before and was called to Lindwood City by Aaron to continue his role as Nora’s personal bodyguard.
"Take care of the trouble she caused just as you'd protect your charge," Aaron said coldly.
