Chapter 461 Who Killed Him
"Are you falling out of love with Lucas?" Nora asked Becky, taking a sip of her wine.
Becky filled up her wine glass and said, "I liked him. But now I realize that instead of liking a man who doesn't care about me, I'd rather treat myself well. As women, we can only earn the respect of others after we treat ourselves with kindness."
Becky seemed to have understood the truth about life.
Nora smiled and said, "You're right."
Becky laughed and raised her glass again. "Nora, for our connection, let's have another drink," she offered a toast,
Nora accepted. She put down her fork, picked up her glass, and clinked it with Becky's.
"You don't have to finish it all," Nora advised.
Becky drank all the wine in her glass in one go.
Nora only took a small sip. Becky's face turned red, so Nora thought she was a little drunk.
Nora thought, 'I haven't seen Becky in months, but she has become more skilled at drinking.'
Becky spoke, "Nora, four years ago, I was too naive and jealous of you, so I did those malicious things. But you should also thank me. Because of me, you have three adorable children. It's a blessing in disguise."
Becky was drunk, so she dared to defend herself.
Nora coldly smiled, "Do you think you did a good thing then?"
Becky waved her hand, laughed, and said, "Don't be angry. I can do without your thanks."
Nora snorted, "Becky, you should thank my three children. Because of them, I forgive you and allow you to live a good life."
Becky continued laughing, and replied, "I know. During Christmas, I'll give each of them a gift."
Nora glanced at Becky but didn't say anything.
Becky touched her wine glass and deliberately asked, "Nora, have you ever looked for the biological father of your children?"
Nora stopped drinking, and tersely answered, "No."
Nora thought, 'I don't want to search for that person because I'm satisfied with my current life. Besides, Aaron doesn't mind that I have three children. If I find that person, he might fight for custody. If that happens, I'd rather he never shows up.'
Becky remained silent and then said, "Nora, your three children look so much like Aaron. Could they be his children?"
Nora immediately refuted, "Impossible. On the first day, I took Aaron's blood for a DNA test, and he has no relation to my children."
Becky looked surprised, and questioned, "Really? Was your test wrong?"
Nora thought to herself, 'Could I make a mistake in the test? I'm a doctor, so it's impossible.'
Becky said, "Don't take my words to heart. If Aaron is indeed the biological father of your three children, I'd be jealous of you again because you're always so lucky! Did you really have the chance to sleep with a handsome man like Aaron by chance?"
Becky was drunk and spoke her true thoughts.
Nora glanced at Becky and coldly said, "You're drunk."
Although Nora had forgiven Becky, it didn't mean she liked Becky repeatedly bringing up the events from four years ago.
"I'm not drunk. I only had four drinks. There's no way I can be drunk now," Becky said, taking another sip of her drink.
Seeing that Becky was clearly intoxicated, Nora rolled her eyes and poured her a glass of water.
Nora offered, "Here, drink some water."
"Thank you, Nora," Becky murmured sweetly, saying Nora's name.
Nora smiled and continued eating.
At that moment, Becky's phone rang. It was an unknown number.
"This must be a stranger," Becky said, glancing at her phone and hanging up directly.
After a few seconds, her phone rang again. She frowned and answered the call.
"Who is this? I won't buy anything you're selling! Stop harassing me!" Becky said in one breath.
There was silence on the other end, and the person asked, "Are you Becky Smith?"
"Yes, I said I won't buy anything," Becky replied.
"I am a police officer from the West Suburb Division of the Houston Police Department. Your father argued with someone and unexpectedly died during the altercation. Please come to the Central Hospital immediately to claim his body."
The calm voice of the police officer instantly sobered Becky up. "What did you say? My dad is dead?" she repeated the officer's words, shocked.
The police officer replied, "Yes."
"How did he die? Who killed him?" Becky's eyes turned red as she bombarded the officer with questions.
"I will explain the details when you come to the police station," the police officer said and then hung up.
Becky stared blankly at her phone screen. Tears slowly filled her eyes.
Nora was also shocked. Although she thought Charles should have died long ago, she was still stunned.
Nora wondered, 'Who killed Charles? Did Aaron send someone to kill him?'
The possibility made Nora nervous. She didn't want Aaron to seek revenge through illegal means because she was afraid that he would get implicated.
"Nora, you heard me on the phone. My dad died, so I have to go back immediately," Becky said, wiping her tears and looking frantic.
Nora carefully considered the situation. "There probably aren't any flights to Houston at this time. Don't worry. Aaron happens to be there, so I'll call him to ask about the situation," she suggested.
Becky bit her lip and nodded with her eyes filled with tears.
Nora called Aaron and explained the situation to him.
Aaron was very surprised. "Charles is dead?"
Nora replied, "Yes."
Nora wanted to ask Aaron if he had killed Charles, but Becky was next to her, so she didn't ask.
Nora pondered, ’Aaron's tone seems to prove that he is also surprised, so Charles' death should have nothing to do with him."
"I will have Noe investigate immediately. I will call you later," Aaron said.
"Okay," Nora hung up and told Becky, "Aaron said he would have his assistant take care of this right away."
Becky's tears began to fall. "Actually, I know my dad's company is on the verge of bankruptcy. He had forgotten about me a long time ago because he only cared about his new lover. I should blame him, but he's still my dad. Hearing about his death still saddens me," she shared.
Nora understood Becky's feelings and handed her a tissue to wipe her tears. As long as a person still has some conscience, they cannot remain indifferent when faced with the death of a loved one.
Nora was curious and thought, "Who exactly killed Charles?"
She pondered, ‘Why would someone want to kill him?’ She considered speaking up, but then she heard a familiar male voice nearby.
"Nora," a voice called out.
Nora raised her head and was surprised when she saw who was speaking.
She thought, ‘What a small world. Becky invited me to dinner, and now I ran into Lucas!’
But Lucas wasn't alone; he had a beautiful woman with curly chestnut hair who, with her walk, exuded sexiness and gentleness.
