Chapter 548 Stirring Their Relationship

He agreed! Nora was stunned.

Nora scolded, "Aaron, you can't make decisions for me."

Aaron looked into the camera, and rebutted, "Yes, I made the decision for you. Blame me. I'm selfish. I didn't want to lose you, so I let Alex repay Matthew's favor. If you're angry, scold me."

He said this to prevent her from feeling guilty, deliberately taking all the blame. Nora knew Aaron was doing it on purpose. She felt awful.

Nora had initially thought Erin would stay at her house. She never imagined that Alex would end up living at the Jones Manor!

She couldn't understand how things had turned out this way. Whether she liked it or not, the decision was made.

When the Hamilton family heard about it, they were shocked.

Especially Adelbert and Jacob, who, upon hearing that Alex was staying at the Jones Manor, clamored to confront Matthew and bring Alex back.

Fortunately, Alex managed to calm them down through a video call, explaining everything in detail.

Ebenezer, though shocked, believed Alex's sacrifice was worth it. As a former soldier, he carried the aura of a military man and had a deep love for his country.

He knew the Jones family was also patriotic. Therefore, he understood Matthew's actions.

Matthew wanted Alex to be his future son-in-law, ensuring Alex would become the future leader of the Jones family and continue to protect Chrisland. Setting aside personal feelings, it was a meaningful decision.

So, he didn't blame Matthew much. Instead, he asked Aaron for Matthew's phone number and called him.

At that time, Matthew was already lying in bed, pale and near death. Seeing him like this, Ebenezer couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow. Matthew was a man of deep feelings, but his life was short.

During their conversation, Ebenezer learned that after Matthew's passing, Erin would become the new head of the Jones family.

Matthew's brother would temporarily manage family affairs until Erin came of age, at which point the power would be transferred to her.

Ebenezer, having grown up in a large family, knew that internal conflicts were inevitable. Although the Jones family's duty was to protect the nation, people could change.

No one could predict if they would maintain their original intentions decades later. Some might become restless after gaining power.

So, Ebenezer decided to send a few of his trusted men to the Jones Manor to protect Alex and keep the Jones family in check.

Matthew reassured him that there was no need for such worries. The Jones family still had elders, and he had already informed them about Alex. No one in the Jones family would dare harm Alex.

But Ebenezer believed human nature was complex. Even in the most united families, there could be discordant members. So, he insisted on sending a few people to the Jones Manor.

The matter was settled. Nora, despite her guilt, had to accept it.

Three days later, Matthew developed a high fever and was on the brink of death. Aaron and Nora took a private jet to the Jones Manor. They were received by the Jones family's elders and Matthew's brother.

Matthew had been isolating himself in his room, allowing only his personal bodyguards to enter. However, upon learning that Aaron and Nora had arrived, he invited them in.

In just a few days, Matthew had become very thin. He struggled to sit up in bed, but when he saw them, he smiled as warmly as ever.

Matthew remarked, "Dr. Hamilton, thank you once again for allowing me to see my wife so soon. When Erin grows up, she will be your daughter-in-law. Please take care of her."

His voice was weak. Thinking about his condition and his imminent death, Nora's resentment towards him vanished. Her nose tingled as she fought back tears, nodding.

Nora assured him, "Don't worry, Erin will be my daughter-in-law, and I will take good care of her."

Matthew's eyes showed relief as he turned his gaze to Aaron. "Mr. Gordon, don't be so serious. You should thank me. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't know how much Dr. Hamilton loves you. She would rather let her son go than leave you, right?" he teased.

Aaron felt helpless. Although Matthew's words were true, it seemed like he was trying to stir up trouble between them. He knew that Alex staying at the Jones Manor made Nora very sad.

"You're about to die. Matthew, can you stop being so harsh?" Aaron managed to say.

Matthew laughed, "All right, I'll listen to you. Mr. Gordon, you must be a good elder in the future! Please take care of Erin!"

As he spoke, his face changed, followed by a bout of violent coughing.

Nora, worried, wanted to check on him, but Aaron held her tightly by the waist. She glanced at him, and Aaron shook his head slightly.

Matthew was at death's door, beyond saving. Nora knew this and slowly looked at Matthew.

His breathing became rapid. His eyes gradually lost focus, staring at the door. It seemed like he saw something and a sudden light appeared in his eyes.

Matthew said, "Dear, wait for me. I'm coming!" He slowly raised his arm as if grasping something. He smiled and then slowly closed his eyes. His hand fell limp. He died with a smile on his face.

"Mr. Jones!" His bodyguard said and knelt, his voice filled with grief. Nora covered her mouth, tears streaming down uncontrollably. Aaron held her tightly, his throat tightening, his eyes slightly red.

Aaron murmured, "Matthew, go reunite with your lover. Don't worry, I will be a good elder."

Aaron and Nora mourned in silence for three minutes before he led her out of the room.

Outside, Matthew's relatives were waiting. Alex stood holding Erin's hand. They had heard the bodyguard's cry and understood what had happened when they saw Aaron and Nora's expressions. They all began to cry in sorrow.

"Daddy, I want to see Daddy!" Erin cried and suddenly broke free from Alex's hand, and tried to run into the room. Aaron quickly picked her up.

Aaron advised, "Erin, don't. Your daddy has gone to meet your mommy."

Erin stared at the door, her lips tightly pressed together, tears streaming from her beautiful eyes. Seeing Erin like this, Nora felt a deep sadness.

She took Erin from Aaron's arms, speaking gently, "Erin, it's okay. You still have me. From now on, I am your mommy."

She would become Erin's mother. She would take good care of Erin! Erin clung to Nora's neck, crying silently.

At that moment, two men in black carried a stretcher and took Matthew out of the room.
