Chapter 768 Let's Just Get Divorced
Nora invoked Aaron's name as a threat, hoping Betsy would be smarter and weigh the situation.
Nora pondered whether Betsy was after her money or her very life.
Betsy lowered her eyes in silence; her fingers suddenly tightened, and a hint of resentment flashed in her eyes.
She really hated Nora!
It was all thanks to Nora that she had fallen to this point,!
She really wanted to tear Nora apart!
But Betsy didn't dare!
If she tore Nora apart, she wouldn't survive either!
Because Aaron would definitely kill her.
Since Betsy retired from the entertainment industry due to scandals, she lost a lot of money and almost went bankrupt.
Betsy barely managed to get by with her meager savings but soon found herself unable to make ends meet.
With no other choice, Betsy had to find a job.
But other than acting, she didn't know how to do anything else.
So Betsy had to go to entertainment venues to do PR, accompany guests to drink and sing, and be taken advantage of by men every day.
The humiliating life was really pushing Betsy to the brink of collapse!
Fortunately, one day, she met an old man named Yancy.
Yancy loved to listen to music, and Betsy had majored in music in college.
So naturally, she caught Yancy's eye.
Yancy was returning to Youston and asked if she wanted to go to Youston for opportunities.
He said he knew the theater manager there and could introduce her to work at the theater.
At that time, Betsy was fed up with the daily humiliation.
Seeing Yancy's well-dressed and generous demeanor, Betsy agreed eagerly.
After arriving in Youston, Yancy not only helped her get a job at the theater but also often invited her to sing for him and a few old friends at night, among them was Caden.
The tips they gave each time were much higher than what Betsy earned as a PR at the club.
With a stable job, Betsy began to think about other things.
By then, Betsy already knew that Caden was Aaron's father.
Caden's manner and behavior were more refined than those of other older men.
This made her interested in Caden.
Caden, this old man, was handsome and wealthy. As long as she clung to him, she wouldn have the opportunities to rise again.
Therefore, after a few encounters, Betsy tried to please Caden.
Betsy was naturally charming and knew how to seduce men.
Soon, Betsy realized that Caden really liked her.
But what surprised Betsy was that Caden, unlike many wealthy men, didn't immediately take her to a hotel after showing interest. Instead, he enjoyed talking and seemed to appreciate romance.
Betsy discreetly inquired Yancy about Caden and learned that Caden had been quite romantic in his youth, which suited her even more.
Romantic men were less likely to stay faithful, which presented an opportunity for her.
Betsy planned to find the right moment to have a relationship with Caden and have him support her financially.
Perhaps in the future, she could even rise to become the hostess of the Gordon family.
But Betsy didn't expect to encounter Aaron and Nora so soon.
Nora probably recognized her by now.
She had just warned her to stay away from Caden.
Could it be that her dreams of wealth and luxury were about to be shattered again?
This Nora was her jinx.
Betsy hated her!
"Did you hear what my daughter-in-law said? Be sensible; that's the only way to live peacefully in old age. Did you hear me?" Jeffery saw Betsy silent and spoke sternly.
"Yes." Although Betsy was full of resentment, she could only bow her head.
"Nora, let's go," Jeffery said to Nora, satisfied.
"Okay." Nora glanced at Betsy again and then turned to leave.
As the door closed, Betsy clenched her fingers, wishing she could crush the eyebrow pencil in her hand.
Betsy just wanted to leave now.
But if she left, she couldn't guarantee she would meet wealthy older men like Caden again in the future.
So she could only swallow her pride!
Outside.
Jeffery glanced at Nora, a hint of unease in her eyes. "Thank you."
If it were not for Nora, Jeffery wouldn't have the confidence to confront Caden's vixen outside.
Because if things escalated, Jeffery had a feeling that Caden wouldn't support her.
Instead, he would blame her.
But Nora's warning to Betsy just now gave Jeffery a bit more confidence.
It seemed like she wasn't fighting alone anymore.
She had Aaron backing her up!
No, Aaron wouldn't back her up.
Thinking back to how she had made things difficult for Nora to prevent her from being with Aaron, Jeffery felt a pang of guilt.
If she had known this would be the outcome, she wouldn't have been so stubborn from the start.
"Mom, do you want to live a good life with Dad?" Nora thought for a moment and asked.
Jeffery snapped out of it. "Of course I do. But look at Caden; does he seem like he wants to live a good life with me?"
Hearing the bitterness in her tone, Nora said, "Didn't Betsy say she never had anything with Dad?"
Jeffery chuckled. "It means nothing. Nora, you don't know how fickle Caden is."
Nora fell silent for a moment and then said, "Living with such a man is indeed exhausting, but you've both lived together for half a lifetime. Instead of letting things slide, why not think of a way to make Dad change his ways."
Jeffery was taken aback and didn't take it seriously.
"Caden has been a playboy for half his life; he won't change his ways, and besides, I can't think of any way to make him change," Jeffery said.
Nora looked at Jeffery. "Then stop arguing with Dad all the time. Arguing won't help; it will only push the man further away."
Jeffery thought of the many years of married life with Caden, and her face darkened.
"I don't want to argue with Caden either, but every time I see him, I can't help it. Caden spends his time either strolling with the birds, frolicking amongst the flowers and plants, or heading out with a handful of friends to enjoy some music and merriment. At home, he barely exchanges a few words with me, or even feigns ignorance of my presence when we cross paths. I can't help getting mad at him?" Jeffery complained.
Nora was speechless.
Caden's behavior was a form of emotional abuse within the family.
She understood how Jeffery felt.
Women were emotional beings and naturally hoped their husbands would spend more time with them when they were free, at least be a bit more gentle and show some concern.
Therefore, what Caden was doing was truly hurtful.
Seeing Jeffery's angry and helpless expression, Nora's eyes flickered.
"Mom, you still love Dad, don't you?"
Jeffery was taken aback and remained silent.
After a while, she said, "We're both old; what's the point of talking about love?"
Nora disagreed with Jeffery. "Why can't you talk about love? People in their seventies and eighties still pursue love. Mom, if you don't want to be with Dad anymore, just get a divorce. After the divorce, you can find your love again."
Nora wasn't really urging Jeffery to divorce Caden.
She was just testing Jeffery's true thoughts.
