Chapter 95 Thomas is the Fourth Son I've Raised
Aaron raised his eyebrow ever so slightly at Nora's joyful expression.
"So, you're working this hard just for the extra pay?" he teased.
"Of course! What other reason would there be?" Nora replied.
Wasn't she supposed to be here for him?
The thought flashed through Aaron's mind as he admired her delicate profile, his eyes softening while he occasionally offered her another piece of food.
Gayle watched with a cold gaze, narrowing his eyes as he observed Aaron's attentiveness toward Nora.
Could it be that Aaron was really taken with this woman?
Standing up, Gayle toasted Smith first and then turned to Aaron.
"Mr. Gordon, a toast to you. Although you are currently a competitor, I must say I admire you. You hold significant power at such a young age, and despite ill health, you refuse to relinquish control. An example for all of us businessmen indeed."
His words dripped with sarcasm, insinuating that Aaron was a businessman who prioritized money above all.
Aaron lifted his teacup and replied with restrained composure, "Mr. Gayle, you flatter me. The responsibility entrusted to me by my grandfather is something I will uphold with every breath. I will lead the company to continued success."
His confident tone demanded respect without effort.
Nora glanced at him and simply thought: How handsome he looked right now.
Gayle, unable to gain any advantage over Aaron, snorted internally and then turned his attention to Nora.
"Nora, not only are you beautiful, but your professional skills are exceptional as well. Should you ever tire of working for Mr. Gordon and seek better opportunities, rest assured that Godric Group would welcome you with open arms."
His words were a clear attempt to poach right in front of Aaron.
Aaron's expression cooled.
"Mr. Gayle, you won't get that opportunity," he said flatly.
Gayle laughed heartily. "Mr. Gordon, the future is unpredictable, isn't it? Nora, wouldn't you agree?"
Nora clinked her glass against Gayle's and said, "Mr. Gayle, you seem to enjoy your drink. I'll pass since I'm a lightweight."
Gayle remained silent.
What an ungrateful woman, putting him on the spot like that in front of everyone!
Aaron chuckled, his gaze softening as he looked at Nora.
Business was not to be discussed over drinks, but there was an unspoken competition at the table.
As the PR manager, Finn had a way with words. She was getting Smith to drink a fair amount while singing praises for his boss.
Aaron watched quietly, sipping his tea without a hint of expression.
Out of the corner of his eye, however, he noticed Nora had started to drink on her own at some point.
A blush had crept over her pretty face.
Aaron couldn't help but laugh and took the glass from her hand. "Nora, that's enough drinking for you."
Drunk as she was, he couldn’t take care of her in his condition.
"The wine is pretty good, though."
Nora, clearly tipsy, had a seductive glimmer in her bright eyes as she smiled.
Aaron's gaze lingered on her red lips, his Adam's apple bobbing involuntarily.
Her drunkenness was unexpectedly enchanting.
Just then, Smith's assistant entered and whispered to Smith.
"Mrs. Smith is awake? How is she feeling?" Smith's eyes lit up at the news.
"Madam's feeling much better, no more dizziness. She's asking for something to eat," the assistant reported truthfully.
Smith was visibly thrilled.
"That's great news! Thank you all for today; we can discuss matters further tomorrow."
Gayle picked up on Smith's intent.
He wasn't planning on discussing the partnership immediately.
He had decided to give Aaron another chance!
Who would have thought the woman Aaron brought would be so capable of healing Mrs. Smith and turning the tide?
Smith hurried off to see his wife.
Aaron said, "Mr. Smith, I won't see you out. My secretary isn't good with alcohol, and she's already drunk after a few drinks."
Smith paused. "Mr. Gordon, I should thank you for your secretary's help. You're not leaving tonight, are you?"
"We'll stay."
Aaron noticed Smith's friendly gesture and barely concealed his smile.
Gayle, observing this exchange, made an offer, "Mr. Gordon seldom visits Bescosarst and simply can't leave so soon. You'll have to join me in looking after Mr. Smith tomorrow. Let me arrange a room for you and Nora. One room will suffice, right?"
There was always a deeper meaning behind Gayle's words.
Aaron had no patience for back-and-forth bickering. "Thanks, Mr. Gayle. But I'll need one more room; my bodyguard is staying too."
Gayle's face stiffened slightly, but he returned the sentiment with a smile and instructed his assistant to take care of Aaron's check-in.
Seated in his wheelchair, Aaron let his waiting bodyguard push him away.
Nora walked alongside him as they both departed.
Aaron looked over at Nora and noticed a blush on her cheeks. With concern, he asked, "Nora, are you doing okay?"
Nora glanced at him and tilted her head with a playful smile. "Don't worry, Thomas. I'm not drunk. I won't forget to treat you."
Aaron fell silent.
Even if she wasn't drunk, she was close to it.
And there she went, calling him Thomas in front of everyone!
"Thomas? Mr. Gordon, is that another name of yours?" Gayle inquired, walking with Smith towards the elevator.
Aaron parted his lips to reply, but then Nora chimed in, "Yeah, Thomas is my fourth adopted son!"
Aaron remained silent.
"Nora, your face is pretty red. Are you sure you didn't drink too much? You don't feel like throwing up, do you?" Aaron shifted the conversation, hoping Nora wouldn't blurt out something erratic.
Nora, covering her flushed face and eyes shimmering with a drunken allure, protested, "I'm not drunk, Thomas. Don't underestimate me."
"I underestimated you. You're not drunk," said Aaron, not daring to contradict her further. As the elevator arrived, he urged Smith and the others to go ahead to avoid more of Nora's unexpected revelations.
Noticing Nora's unsteady sway, he reached out to steady her. "Hang on just a little longer, Nora. We'll be back in the room soon."
Nora glanced at him with a hand to her face, her blurry gaze drifting to his hand. Then, with a slap, she scolded him, "Thomas, don't take advantage of me! Watch out, or I'll stick you with a needle!"
Aaron was at a loss for words.
Could she even perform his treatment tonight?
Gayle's assistant arrived with two keycards, one for a deluxe suite and another for a standard room.
The trio entered the deluxe suite first.
"Frederick, get some water for Nora."
"Alright." Frederick went to fetch water for Nora.
"Thank you, Frederick," Nora said with a radiant smile. Aaron eyed her, his brow furrowing.
Do women always become this friendly when they've had a drink?
"Thomas, let's skip the herbal bath for today. Come on, I'll start your acupuncture right away."
Nora wheeled Aaron into the suite, ready to administer his acupuncture treatment.
Aaron couldn't help but feel a little worried as he remembered her drunken babbling.
"Nora, are you sure you're up for doing acupuncture? If not, maybe we should skip it today."
Nora reached out to help him onto the bed, clearly annoyed.
"The treatment can't be interrupted, Thomas. I told you, I'm not drunk."
Aaron glanced at the flush on her cheeks and handed his arm to her.
Well, his life was in her hands anyway.
If she messed up today, she'd just have to save him again!
Aaron got onto the bed.
Just as he was about to lie down, everything went dark as Nora suddenly toppled onto him.
