Chapter 181 We Could Be Bed Partners

Aaron was acutely aware of Nora's discomfort. A fleeting glance at her slightly flushed face sent a wave of satisfaction coursing through him.

Seated regally at the dining table, he began to unpack the food from the thermal container, each dish still radiating a veil of steam.

"Let's eat," he suggested.

Nora, her stomach growling with hunger, eagerly began to consume her meal. She decided to discuss the day's events only after satisfying her hunger.

Aaron watched her with a subtle smile gracing his lips, eating his own meal with an air of composed confidence.

As Nora was finishing her meal, Aaron set aside his utensils and meticulously wiped his hands with a napkin.

"Tomorrow, we should go get our marriage certificate," he announced, his words slicing through the comfortable silence.

The sudden proclamation caught Nora mid-swallow, causing her to choke on her food.

Her face flushed red as she coughed, her hand thumping against her chest in disbelief. "What did you just say? Is this some kind of joke?" she spluttered.

Aaron handed her a napkin, his smile holding a hint of mischief. "Why so surprised? You're already my woman, shouldn't you marry me?"

Nora's emotions surged like a tidal wave before gradually subsiding.

"Mr. Gordon, thank you for saving me, but what we did was just an adult game, nothing serious. We don't have to brand each other just because of one night," she reasoned.

Aaron's smile waned slightly.

"Nora, we have mutual feelings, and now we've been intimate. Shouldn't we take the next step?" he proposed.

Nora took a deep breath, "Mr. Gordon, I'm not planning to get married at the moment. It was just an accident, no need to take it further. Besides, I said we should wait for your family's acceptance before we discuss anything else."

Aaron's expression darkened.

"Nora, you don't want to marry me?" he asked, his gaze piercing her.

"That's right, it's just too much trouble," Nora replied bluntly.

She was content with her life and had no desire to be drawn into a high-society battle.

A cold aura seemed to emanate from Aaron as he regarded her.

'She finds it a hassle. Is that why I'm not worth the risk?' he pondered.

'After all this time, does my affection mean so little to her?'

A flicker of guilt passed through Nora as she caught the displeasure in his eyes.

"Or, we could just be bed partners. After all, you're quite skilled," she blurted out, her gaze fixed on his handsome face.

The room fell into a deafening silence.

Aaron stared at her, clearly taken aback.

Nora's ears reddened quickly, mortified by her own audacious suggestion.

'What did she just say? Oh God, please turn back time and let her take back those crazy words!' she internally pleaded.

"Nora, are you suggesting you want to be my lover?" Aaron finally broke the silence, a flicker of intrigue crossing his eyes.

"Outside, countless women are dying to marry him. They all scheme to sleep with him and then make him take responsibility. However, she was different. Was she really suggesting a no-strings-attached fling?" he mused.

"Forget I said anything," Nora blurted out, hoping desperately that Aaron would disagree.

Aaron chuckled, "Nora, I like you, and I'm here to meet your needs. So, I agree."

Nora fell silent.

Oh please, he didn't have to agree! She couldn't even stand herself at this point. It must have been the meds messing with her head. What else could explain such a reckless proposition?

Aaron watched her evasive expression with a mix of frustration and resignation, feeling a delightful shift in his mood. Though it wasn't his ultimate goal, at least he'd have the chance to fall asleep holding a beauty. That was a win in his book!

"Have a bit more to eat. You're too thin, it's uncomfortable to hold you," he suggested, ladling more soup into her bowl, his smile laden with hidden meaning.
Nora, her mind still somewhat adrift, registered his comment and responded instinctively, "Thin? Where am I thin?"
Aaron quirked an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping over her figure in a brief appraisal. "True, the important places are just right, while the rest is generously proportioned."

'What in the world is this man thinking?' Nora wondered, her heart pounding in her chest.

She took a sip of her soup, allowing her heartbeat to gradually slow down before her thoughts turned to Jackson. "Where's Jackson?" she asked, her voice laced with disdain.

'That despicable man, I should've taken him down with my silver pins at the last soiree!' she thought bitterly.

"He got a beating from me and is currently in the hospital," Aaron replied, his expression turning frosty. "Don't worry, I won't let it go that easily."

Nora pursed her red lips lightly, her thoughts churning. "This guy is a real jerk. Wait, how did you get here? Did you see a girl anywhere?"

"No clue how Evella is doing. She probably got away, right?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

"Don't worry, the girl is fine. It was her who alerted Howard, and Howard then contacted me," Aaron reassured her.

"I just happened to be schmoozing at the Golden Harvest Diner so I could make it here on time," Aaron explained, his tone nonchalant.

A flicker of surprise crossed Nora's eyes when she heard this. "Really, it was Howard who told you?" she asked, her mind recalling how Howard had never been particularly fond of her.

'And now he's sent Aaron to rescue her?' she thought, her heart fluttering with confusion.

"Yep, he definitely got in touch with me," Aaron confirmed, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "He did get pretty mad when he found out I slept with you, though. Guess he felt like an idiot, thinking he'd done Suzy wrong."

Nora wasn't sure how to feel. She could understand Howard's reaction. After all, in his eyes, Aaron was the rightful fiancé for Suzy. Sending Aaron into another woman's bed—must be full of regret.

"But I made it clear to them. I'm not going to marry Suzy. The person I want to marry is you," Aaron declared, reaching out to take Nora's hand, his dark eyes deep and mysterious.

The place where he touched her felt fiery hot. She blinked, pulled her hand away, and stood up, "I've eaten enough. I'm heading back."

Aaron glanced at the clock and said, "It's already midnight. If you go back now, you'll wake everyone up. Better wait until morning."

Nora paused mid-step, hesitated, "I can't!" The idea of staying out all night, and everyone knowing she spent the night with him, was unthinkable.

"What's the issue? They'll find out sooner or later," Aaron said, his gaze fixed on her, his smile teasing. "Besides, didn't you say you wanted to be my bed buddy? Shouldn't you stay with me?"

Nora choked up, the mocking twinkle in his eyes heating her face to a blush. "That was just a moment of confusion. I take back what I said earlier."

Aaron chuckled, "Nora, no take-backs," his gaze was intense, his voice tinged with a taunting challenge.

Nora felt trapped. 'Well, being his bed buddy isn't the worst. Aaron is handsome and good in bed. Sleeping with him, she wasn't losing out!' she thought, trying to rationalize her situation.

"Your leg okay?" Nora changed the subject, hoping to divert his attention.

Aaron tapped his thigh with his long fingers, "Not great, feel sore and achy." His leg hadn't fully recovered, and he'd overdone it today, leaving his thigh feeling stiff.
