Chapter 1074 Not Planning to Bless Her Anymore

Alfred went quiet for a sec. "Wesley ain't good enough for Samantha."

Billy raised an eyebrow. "Why's that?"

Alfred sighed. "Dude's too scrawny. And more importantly, he's not open-minded or impressive enough."

Billy chuckled. "So, you still gonna give them your blessing?"

Alfred took a deep breath. "Nah."

"Sounds like you wanna take a shot yourself?"

"Yeah." If Samantha hadn't acted a bit off earlier, Alfred wouldn't have even considered it. But since she didn't seem totally uninterested, he figured he'd give it a go.

"Well, I'll be waiting for the good news."

'Can I really make Samantha fall for me?' Alfred felt a rush of excitement, like he was gearing up for a big game.

Meanwhile, Samantha got home and felt kinda bummed seeing the empty house. Alfred had just left without a word. She thought she must've misjudged him.

Her phone buzzed with a message. It was a pic from Millie.

Mateo had dropped by, and her family was hanging out with him at the Gordon family's vacation lodge.

Millie texted: [Samantha, Mateo's here, and he just asked if you have a boyfriend.]

Samantha suddenly felt a bit nervous and replied: [You didn't spill the beans, did you?]

Millie: [Of course not. So, you and Wesley making any progress?]

Thinking of Wesley, Samantha smiled. [Yeah.]

Millie: [That fast?]

Samantha: [Yep, he confessed to me.]

Millie: [For real? Did you guys kiss?]

Samantha: [Nope.]

Millie: [That's good.]

Samantha: [Why's that good?]

Millie switched gears: [I heard from Mateo that Alfred went to see you. Did you meet him?]

Mentioning Alfred, Samantha got pissed. [Don't even bring him up.]

Millie: [What happened?]

Samantha: [Turns out he's a total jerk.]

Millie: [What happened?]

Samantha angrily typed: [He told me he liked someone, but he was still flirting with every other girl!]

Millie replied: [You sound kinda jealous.]

Samantha was taken aback and sent: [Jealous? I'm just mad, okay? He really let me down.]

Millie: [He's not married yet, it's normal to talk to a few girls and compare. Why are you so worked up?]

Reading that, Samantha thought it made sense and replied: [I'm not worked up, just surprised.]

Millie: [It's normal to be worked up, you've been friends for years. Of course, you care about him.]

Yeah, as friends, it was normal for Samantha to care about Alfred. But Millie's words made her feel something was off.

Samantha's eyes flashed with some unknown emotion, and she changed the subject: [What about you and Billy, any progress?]

Millie: [No rush, once your relationship moves forward, mine with him will too.]

Samantha laughed and replied: [Billy's my big brother, you should get together first.]

Millie sent a laughing emoji, and they didn't chat further.

Samantha thought of Alfred and tried to shake off her messy thoughts. 'Who Alfred likes is his business, why should I be stressing over it?'

Samantha was chilling on the couch watching a show and started feeling a bit hungry. Just as she was thinking about what to eat, the doorbell rang.

Samantha ran over and peeked through the peephole, seeing it was a delivery guy. She opened the door.

The delivery guy said, "Hey, your delivery's here."

Samantha was puzzled. "I didn't order any delivery."

The delivery guy checked the order slip and then the door number. "Are you Samantha?"

"Yeah, that's me."

"Then it's right. Mr. Rochet ordered this for you."

'So Alfred sent this,' Samantha thought, pouting. 'What's he doing ordering me food?'

She brought the delivery inside and, after a moment, shot Alfred a message: [Did you send me food?]

Alfred replied: [Yep.]

Samantha, feeling cheeky, sent: [Thinking of me while on a date with a classmate?]

Alfred didn't reply right away but soon sent a selfie from a hotel. Only one side of his face was visible, and maybe because of the angle, he looked extra handsome.

Samantha couldn't help but smile and sent: [Not out on a date?]

Alfred: [Didn't you tell me to rest?]

Samantha: [You actually listen to me?]

Alfred: [Always.]

Just a few words, but they totally lifted Samantha's mood.

Alfred noticed Samantha didn't reply and squinted his brown eyes. He opened the selfie and looked at it again and again. This photo should be pretty good.

He remembered Samantha once said his profile looked a lot like a celebrity she liked, very handsome. He thought, 'Does she find my selfie stunning?'

Samantha finished her bath, video chatted with her family and Mateo for half an hour, and then got ready to watch a show and crash.

Earlier at home, Millie had learned that Samantha liked watching shows and had especially recommended a thriller. Samantha hadn't had time to watch it, and now she had the time. So she sat in bed and found the source.

Even though she loved thrillers, Samantha was still a bit scared. In the quiet of the night, in an empty room, watching the male protagonist investigate a case in a dark forest, accompanied by sudden bursts of music, Samantha felt chills.

She swallowed and wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, scared but wanting to keep watching. She thought it would be nice if someone were here to watch with her. Alfred's image flashed in her mind.

Suddenly, the room went dark. Samantha screamed in fright and dropped the tablet in her hand.

She quickly fumbled for the light switch. The lights still wouldn't come on after many tries.

Samantha turned on her phone's flashlight, then got out of bed and went to the living room to turn on the lights. The living room lights didn't come on either.

Her face turned a bit pale.

Moonlight shone through the gaps in the curtains, casting shadows. A light breeze moved the curtains, adding a touch of eeriness, which made her feel scared for no reason.

Scenes from the show flashed in her mind, and her heart pounded. It seemed like a killer would climb through the window any second. She was a bit scared.

Samantha swallowed and quickly dialed Alfred's number.

The phone rang only twice before it was answered. "Samantha."

"Alfred, come quickly, my power's out," Samantha said hurriedly.

"Don't be afraid, I'm on my way. Stay in bed and lock the door. Don't open the door for anyone until I get there." Alfred's steady voice was reassuring.

Samantha's nervousness gradually eased. "Okay, I got it."

"Is your phone charged?"

"Yeah."

"Good, don't hang up. I'll be there in ten minutes."

"Okay." Samantha quickly returned to her bedroom, locked the door, and then got into bed.
