Chapter 96 The Drunken Woman
Aaron looked at the woman who fell on him due to her unsteady stance, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
"Nora, before we start the treatment, are you planning to give me a physical therapy session first?"
Nora blinked, her gaze landing on the man’s thin lips, and she swallowed involuntarily.
Her body felt warm, and she nodded a bit belatedly. "You could do with some rehab."
Aaron's brows deepened. "Nora, it's my leg that's injured, not my back.”
Nora didn’t catch his implication at first, saying sweetly, “I didn’t ask you to move your back!"
“Really? Your dive onto me wasn’t suggesting otherwise?"
Aaron flipped over, pinning Nora beneath him.
His deep eyes bore into hers, the heat from his body enveloping her, threatening to ignite her.
Nora felt dizzy and somewhat weighed down.
Suddenly, the sound of a cup hitting the ground came from the doorway.
Frederick, who was meant to bring in some water, had a look of sheer astonishment and swiftly backed out.
Inside, Aaron took a deep breath upon hearing the noise. He looked at Nora, whose beautiful brows were slightly furrowed, and then moved to one side.
Nora was slow to react to the alcohol, her face flushed—but definitely not from shyness!
And him, burning up! The only one suffering was himself!
"Thomas, sit up; we need to start the acupuncture," Nora said, climbing off the bed, shaking her slightly dizzy head, and taking out her acupuncture kit.
Aaron leaned back on the bed, looking at her flushed face, his expression growing serious.
"Hold on, Nora, if you mess this up, you’re going to be responsible for me!"
Nora sat on the edge of his bed, her beautiful almond eyes glaring playfully. "Thomas, I already told you I’m not drunk. Even if I were, I could do the treatment with my eyes closed!"
Aaron fell silent, watching Nora with focused attention as she, like always, inserted each silver needle accurately and skillfully into the acupoints on his leg until she was done.
It turned out just as she had said, even tipsy, she could still treat him.
"All done."
Nora let out a deep sigh, tidied up her acupressure kit, and sat down to wait out the remaining time.
The faint scent of wine wafted through the room, her long eyelashes fluttering as her body swayed on the brink of slumber.
She was drunk and was so different from her usual self.
His gaze shifted subtly as he asked, "Nora, can I ask you something?"
Her eyes, hazy, slightly opened to look at him. "What's that?"
"Do you like me?"
In vino veritas.
What would she say?
Nora tilted her head, gazing at Aaron with a sly grin. "Quite a bit."
She said she liked him!
Aaron's eyes deepened. "What about me? Why do you like me?"
"You're handsome!"
Nora stated as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Her coy, tilted head somehow reminded him of Samantha.
Aaron was elated and probed further, "Is that all?"
"That's it."
Nora thought for a moment and shook her head.
So she liked him just for his looks?
Aaron was slightly displeased.
Watching Nora's drowsy drunken state, he decided to set a little trap. "I've asked my question; now it's your turn."
Nora blinked her blurry eyes. "I don't really have anything to ask."
Aaron teased, trying to entice her, "You can ask if I like you!"
He felt like the Big Bad Wolf, cunningly coaxing Little Red Riding Hood to let him in.
Nora looked at him and chuckled after a moment, "I don't need to ask. I want to video chat with my kids!"
Aaron fell silent.
She didn't take the bait!
He had his response ready!
Nora pulled out her phone and dialed a video call to her three kids.
Soon, the kids popped up on the screen.
"Mommy!"
Their voices came through as Nora asked with a smile, "What are you up to? Are you guys listening to Noe and behaving?"
"Mommy, we just got to the playroom and are getting ready for bed," Billy said.
"Yeah, Mommy, we've been good!" chimed in Samantha.
Alex squinted at Nora's face. "Mommy, have you been drinking?"
Caught by Alex's observation, Nora covered her warm face, sheepishly gesturing with her hand. "Just a little bit."
Alex's brow furrowed. "Where's Mr. Gordon?"
Nora turned toward Aaron, lounging against the bed, shifting the phone toward him. "He's getting some treatment from me."
"Hey there, Alex, Billy, Samantha," Aaron greeted the kids.
Alex's expression became stern. "Mr. Gordon, why is my mom drinking? Make sure you take care of her tonight."
Aaron flashed a crooked smile. "Your mom downed those drinks because of me. Don't worry, I'll take good care of her."
Hearing this, Nora gave him a disgruntled look. "Thomas, I told you, I'm not drunk. Right now, I'm your secretary and personal doctor; it's my job to look after you. Just so you know, don't you dare use that as an excuse to shortchange me on my pay!"
Aaron was silent.
"Relax, whatever you ask for, you'll get," he said, his voice soft and gentle as he watched her endearing antics.
Nora laughed, her delight akin to a child granted candy, and sidled up to the edge of the bed to caress Aaron's handsome face.
"Thomas, you're really generous."
The tipsy little lady had transformed into a greedy gold-digger and a flirt to boot!
On the other end of the call, the three kids were watching the scene with mixed feelings. Alex and Billy almost wanted to hide their faces.
They had never seen their mom drunk before.
She didn't quite seem like herself. Was this really their mom?
Samantha blinked her big eyes and giggled, "Mom, are you touching Mr. Gordon's face because you like him? Like how you always touch us because you love my brothers and me?"
Nora's eyes, mirroring her daughter's, fluttered.
Aaron, on the bed, laughed, "Your mom said she likes me!"
Samantha gasped, "Mr. Gordon, do you like my mom?"
"I do!" Aaron responded with conviction.
"Then you guys should get together already!" Samantha clapped her hands excitedly.
Nora seemed to catch on a bit late.
Glaring at her daughter, she said, "Samantha, stop talking nonsense! Okay, it's time to remove the needles from Mr. Gordon's body. You kids should head to bed as well."
With that, Nora ended the call.
Aaron saw her turn to glare at him as well, his eyebrows arching.
"Nora, I'm serious," he said, his resolve clear.
He was certain he had feelings for her!
He wanted to be with her!
As Nora began to remove the needles, she ignored him, her dazed appearance as if she hadn't heard a word he said.
Aaron's lips moved, but he swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
He was sure she liked him too!
It was just that she had reservations.
So, his primary mission now was to help her overcome those concerns and sweep her off her feet!
