Chapter 690 Casting the Bait
Jackson's eyes flashed with a hint of darkness as he said, somewhat displeased. "Nora, didn't I tell you all to stop investigating? It was just an ordinary car accident. Why waste your time on this?"
Nora replied, "But the facts prove that it wasn't an ordinary car accident."
"It wasn't?"
"No, it wasn't."
"Was it intentional?"
"Yes. Aaron, someone is trying to harm you."
Jackson's eyes flickered. "Who wants to harm me?"
Nora said, "Your uncle and his son."
Jackson's eyelid twitched as he stared fixedly at Nora.
"My uncle and his son? Do you have any evidence?"
"Of course."
Nora didn't miss the flash of nervousness in Jackson's eyes.
"Frederick has already detained someone. His name is Curtis Romero, and he is the regional manager for the Bilian Group in the Asia-Pacific region. Curtis Romero said your uncle and his son bribed him to harm you."
Jackson's eyelid twitched again.
Curtis had been detained by them!
No wonder he couldn't reach Curtis on the phone just now!
Jackson felt a bit panicked inside, but he tried his best to appear calm on the surface.
"Curtis Romero from the Bilian Group? No way. We were just discussing business together a few days ago. You must be mistaken."
"No, it's definitely true."
Nora, with a playful attitude, deliberately said, "Aaron, what should we do now? Should we hand him over to the police? I think he might have more secrets, like why your uncle and his son approached him and whether they had some unspeakable purpose. Should we let the police investigate further?"
"No!"
Jackson blurted out.
Further investigation would quickly reveal that he was a fraud!
"That's strange, Aaron. You seem particularly reluctant to pursue this matter?"
Nora raised her eyebrows slightly, deliberately asking with a probing look.
Jackson's eyes flickered as he quickly found an excuse.
"No. What I mean is that Curtis' words are not credible. Maybe he's just making things up."
Nora nodded. "That's why we need to hand Curtis over to the police for a thorough investigation!"
"But once we hand him over to the police, it will involve the Gordon family."
Jackson calmed down. "Nora, our Gordon group has been expanding its business territory recently, and a particular supplier values the group's reputation highly. My uncle and his son are part of the Gordon family. If this matter blows up, it will greatly affect the Gordon group's reputation."
Jackson was good at finding excuses.
Nora sneered inwardly but pretended to be conflicted on the surface.
"So what do we do? Just let it go and spare your uncle and his son?"
"Of course not."
Jackson said, "What I mean is, let's hold off for now. Once I finish signing the projects I'm working on, we can hand Curtis over to the police."
He was trying to buy time to find an opportunity to get rid of Curtis!
Nora understood perfectly and nodded. "It is okay. They are part of the Gordon family, so you can handle your family's affairs as you want."
Hearing this, Jackson breathed a huge sigh of relief.
As long as he could stall Nora, the rest would be easy.
Feeling more relaxed, Jackson asked, "By the way, how did you trace this back to Curtis Romero?"
"I had Johnnie secretly investigate your car accident. During his investigation, he found that the car dealership owner in Highty City, Liam Scott, might be problematic. So he used some methods to get Liam to talk."
"Liam said someone bribed him to rent you that faulty car. Following that lead, we traced it back to Curtis Romero." Nora paused deliberately. "Curtis isn't very tough. After just a few hits, he confessed that it was Dominic Gordon and Jackson Gordon who wanted to harm you."
Curtis wasn't tough.
If they hit him a few more times, would he spill even more secrets?
Jackson's eyes flickered as he cursed Curtis inwardly for being a useless coward.
No, he had to deal with Curtis as soon as possible!
"Where is he now?"
Nora glanced at him. "In an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city."
Jackson's eyes flickered. "Got it. Keep him there for a couple of days. Once I finalize my contracts, we'll hand him over to the police."
Nora nodded. "Alright, I'm leaving now."
Jackson, preoccupied with his thoughts, barely acknowledged Nora as she left the room.
As soon as the door closed, Jackson quickly pulled out his phone and dialed Dominic's number.
"Dad, something's wrong!"
Outside, Nora paused at the door for a couple of seconds, trying to eavesdrop.
But the door was soundproof, and she couldn't hear anything clearly.
Nora didn't mind. She smirked and walked away with Frederick.
The net had been cast. Now they just had to wait for some people to walk right into it!
"Dr. Smith, let me take you home first, then I'll go guard the warehouse," Frederick said, opening the car door for Nora.
Nora thought for a moment. "No. You go guard the warehouse. I'll take a cab home."
Frederick insisted. "I'd rather take you home first."
Nora's curiosity piqued. "How about we both go to the outskirts?"
She really wanted to see them get what they deserved!
Frederick frowned and shook his head firmly. "No, it's too dangerous. You should wait at home for the news."
If anything happened to Nora, how would he explain it to Aaron?
"Alright, I'll wait at home for news. You go, I'll take a cab back."
Nora knew Frederick would refuse her, so she didn't insist.
"But..."
"No 'but's. I'll be fine. Dealing with Curtis and Jackson is the priority. We need to bring Jackson to justice as soon as possible!" Nora said.
Frederick hesitated for a moment but eventually relented.
"Okay, be careful on your way home."
Nora smiled. "Don't worry. Remember, I have my weapons."
Frederick knew Nora had silver needles for self-defense, so he didn't say anything more and drove off.
Nora exhaled and looked up at the sky.
The starry night was beautiful.
If only she could enjoy this beautiful night with Aaron right now.
Her stomach growled again.
Nora patted her belly and swallowed.
Thinking of something, she texted Evella.
Nora: [Evella, is Howard with you?]
Nora hadn't forgotten Howard's phone call before leaving the hospital.
Howard should have found Evella by now.
Evella: [Yes.]
Nora's curiosity was piqued.
"Where are you guys?"
Evella: [At my father's house.]
Nora: [Is your brother there too?]
Evella: [Yes.]
Nora: [What are you three doing? Is Howard sparring with your brother?]
Evella sent nothing, indicating she was speechless.
Then she sent a photo of them eating.
The people in the photo were blurry, but the food on the table was clear.
The angle suggested it was a candid shot.
Nora looked at the tempting food in the photo and could almost smell its aroma.
She patted her growling stomach.
Nora: [Can I come over for a meal?]
