Chapter 832 Encountering an Acquaintance
Diego nodded and said, "Then I'm relieved."
Hugo glanced at the time and said, "Alright, Uncle Diego, it's getting late. I should head back."
"Okay."
After he left, Mia asked, "You brought that child back, and now you're going to let Hugo raise her, right?"
Diego replied, "More or less. Hugo has no children of his own, so he will probably groom Millie to be his heir."
Mia said bitterly, "That child is lucky, but my poor Stov died so young. She's just a broom star!"
Diego glared at her and said, "Enough. I know you hate the Chrisland people, but Millie is Stov's child. Stop targeting her."
Mia's eyes reddened, and she said nothing.
She thought, 'So what if Millie is Stov's blood?'
'Millie carries that slut Emmeline's blood.'
She would never like Millie!
Outside, James was anxious and asked, "Dr. Smith, what do we do now?"
Nora paused, saying, "Hugo is clearly not willing to hand over Millie. He even brought in government officials. It seems it's impossible for us to take Millie openly."
James said, "Then we'll find a chance to take Millie away secretly."
Nora glanced at him and said, "The government has been involved. We can't take Millie secretly. If we do, it would be illegal. Do you want to attract Interpol?"
James frowned and continued, "But if we take Millie back to Chrisland, that's your territory. You have the adoption papers, so there's nothing to fear."
Nora shook her head and said, "It's not that simple. Although we have the adoption papers, Millie is not an orphan, so our adoption is not entirely legitimate. If we forcefully keep Millie in Chrisland, it might cause international controversy. I don't want to keep going back and forth like this."
James looked frustrated and snapped, "So we just have to watch them raise Millie?"
Nora was also at a loss. "I want to see Millie first."
She didn't know Millie's current situation and was very worried.
James said, "But Hugo is clearly not willing to let us see Millie. How about I have my men sneak in tonight and bring Millie out to meet us?"
Nora looked at the small building in the distance and asked, "James, do you think Millie is here?"
James was slightly stunned and said, "If she's not here, where would she be?"
They exchanged a glance, both thinking of a possibility.
Nora said, "Clearly, Hugo is in charge of this matter. He's not stupid. Knowing we would keep an eye on this place, he probably wouldn't leave Millie with Diego and Mia."
James nodded in agreement. "You're right. Diego and Mia don't have much security. If Millie were here, Hugo would have more guards. But I didn't see any of Hugo's men around, so Millie is probably not here."
Nora nodded and said, "Let's go. Find me a hotel to stay in first."
It seemed she couldn't take Millie away in the short term and needed to settle down first.
"Alright, we'll head to downtown Silvercrest, closer to Hugo's place."
Nora agreed, "To be safe, let's leave a few people here to keep an eye on what's going on, just in case we're wrong, and Millie is actually here. If anything happens, your people can inform us immediately."
James had thought of this, too, so he left some of his men to monitor the Rochet family.
He then took Nora, Frederick, and a group of bodyguards to the city, checking into a five-star hotel.
While checking in at the front desk, James saw a staff member and was slightly stunned.
"Ellie Reed?"
The girl, who was helping another guest check-in, looked up sharply at his call.
When she recognized James, her expression became complicated.
"James."
James nodded and asked, "Do you work here?"
"Yes, and you? Are you here on a business trip?"
She glanced at Nora, assuming James was accompanying Nora on a business trip to Silvercrest.
"No, I haven't returned to Chrisland. I'm still with the Rochet society. But the leader has changed; it's no longer Stov."
Nora didn't understand their conversation. After the staff finished checking her in, she curiously asked James, "James, do you know her?"
James nodded and replied, "Her name is Ellie. She used to be a maid under Stov, responsible for taking care of Emmeline and Millie."
'Is that so?'
Nora's eyes flickered as she studied Ellie.
"James, what is her personality like? Was she good to Emmeline and Millie?" She asked.
James said, "Ellie is a kind-hearted girl. After Stov's death, memebers in the Rochest society were arrested. But Stov's crimes had nothing to do with the maids, so she was probably released without charges."
Nora pondered and asked, "Is she familiar with Stov's family members?"
James hesitated for a moment and replied, "I'm not sure. I didn't have much contact with her. But Stov and Hugo had dealings, and Hugo would visit Leonardo's place. She should have seen Hugo."
Nora raised an eyebrow and said, "Let's talk to her."
James was taken aback and looked at Nora inquisitively.
Nora looked around and saw a coffee shop in the lobby, then said, "Tell her that Millie has been brought here. Ask her when she's free. I'll be waiting over there to talk to her."
After speaking, Nora took her bag and went to the coffee shop.
James followed her instructions and spoke to Ellie.
Ellie was shocked to hear that Millie had been brought here.
She wanted to ask more but had to help another guest check-in, so she suppressed her anxiety and continued her work.
James finished speaking and went to the coffee shop, sitting across from Nora.
Nora ordered coffee and two desserts for him.
It should be midnight in Lindwood City, but Nora wasn't sleepy at all.
However, her head felt a bit heavy, so she needed some coffee to stay alert.
They slowly sipped their coffee, waiting for Ellie to come over.
Soon, Ellie hurried over.
"James."
"Have a seat."
James gestured for Ellie to sit down and then said, "Let me introduce you. This is Ms. Smith from Chrisland. Millie has been living with her."
"Hello," Ellie smiled politely at Nora and greeted.
Nora returned the smile.
Ellie couldn't wait to ask James, "James, you said Millie was brought here. Who brought her? Was she kidnapped?"
James replied, "It's not exactly kidnapping. Millie was secretly brought back here by her grandfather, Mr. Rochet, and now he won't let us see her."
After replying, he translated their conversation for Nora.
Nora nodded and looked at Ellie, saying, "Ms. Reed, James said you used to take care of Millie. I assume you want the best for her, right?"
