Chapter 220 Baldwin Makes His Move
"Thanks." Nora finished the cup of hot chocolate and thanked Aaron.
Aaron set the cup aside and then suggested, "Move over a bit in bed."
Nora glanced at his handsomely sculpted features and teased, "Are you going to sleep here tonight?"
"Yes, as your teddy bear." Aaron chuckled softly; his appearance even more striking under the soft light.
Nora felt a warmth inside her heart and made scooted over to let him lay beside her.
After Aaron laid down, he wrapped his arms around her, gently massaging her abdomen with one hand. His hands were warm, and the massage was comforting.
Nora curved her lips into a subtle smile, nestled comfortably into his embrace, and drifted off to sleep.
Aaron listened to her breathing even out, his expression softening. He leaned in slightly and kissed her forehead.
The next day, Nora woke up groggy and instinctively reached for the edge of the bed. It was empty. She opened her eyes, staring blankly at the familiar room for a few seconds.
Suddenly remembering, she quickly grabbed her phone.
It was 7:30 AM!
'Surely Aaron had turned off her phone alarm again.'
Nervously, Nora got up and ruffled her hair in frustration.
'Usually, even without an alarm, she would wake up from her internal clock. But these last few times, she'd slept so deeply. Could it be because she was becoming dependent on him? Sleeping soundly in the assurance of his presence? It was a frightening habit.'
Nora shook her head, threw the covers off, and hurriedly got ready, heading downstairs after a quick brush and wash.
By that time, the three kids had their backpacks on and were ready to get into Aaron's car, looking at Noe to take them to kindergarten.
Nora was rendered speechless at the sight. 'When did she become a mother who overslept?'
"Babies, are you off then? Make sure to behave at school, okay?" Hearing her voice, the three children looked at her in unison.
Alex asked, "Mom, you're awake?"
Billy added, "Mom, we'll be good. Don't work too hard at the office, okay?"
Samantha: "Mom, Dad said if you think that going to work is too difficult, you don't have to. He will take care of you and us."
Nora's face flushed slightly. She glanced at Aaron and said, "I'm not struggling. I'll make sure I bring in enough money for the family. You kids should head out. We can’t keep bothering Noe."
Noe quickly replied, "It's no trouble."
The three children waved to Nora and the others, "Bye, mom."
Nora watched the children leave and then glared at Aaron in his wheelchair. "Who permitted you to turn off my phone alarm? Could you not tarnish my perfect image in front of the kids?"
Aaron arched an eyebrow and pulled her onto his lap, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Nora, feel free to raise your voice and tell Grandma that you woke up with me in your bed today.”
Nora fell silent. ‘So, he didn't tell? Does everyone still think he slept in Billy's bed last night?'
Noticing Grandma almost turning around, she quickly elbowed Aaron in the chest. "Let go of me now."
Aaron chuckled softly, planting a kiss on her cheek before letting go.
Just as she stood up, Carter looked back. Nora straightened her hair, offered a strained smile, and pushed Aaron inside the house. 'Was there always this guilt of sneaking around like teenagers?'
Nora had her breakfast and prepared to head to the film set.
Aaron reminded her, "Keep your distance from Baldwin." Nora smiled and, without responding to him, got straight into her car.
Aaron looked at Frederick, who would be driving. Understanding his concern, Frederick said, "Mr. Gordon, don't worry, I'll keep an eye on Baldwin."
Aaron nodded in satisfaction, "Good work. Your end-of-year bonus will be doubled."
Frederick's face lit up. "Thank you, Mr. Gordon." 'He was determined to keep Baldwin under close watch.' The car sped off to the film set.
When Nora got out, she noticed Baldwin's trailer had also just arrived. Baldwin was dressed casually and was stepping out of the trailer.
"Morning, Baldwin," Nora greeted him.
"Morning, Nora." Baldwin smiled warmly and gestured for his assistant to hand him a thermos container. "Nora, here's something for you."
Nora was momentarily startled as she took the thermos from Baldwin. "What's this?"
"It's the sweet soup that Mary cooked. Have it while it's hot," Baldwin said.
Nora smiled, about to thank him, when Frederick snatched the thermos from her hands. "Sorry, Nora, as your bodyguard, I need to check anything that’s given to you to eat. Got to make sure it's not poisoned," he stated.
Before either of them could react, he had already opened the thermos lid. He then pulled a silver needle from his pants pocket, rubbed the needle between his fingers, and dipped it into the soup to test it.
Nora watched his actions with a bemused expression. 'When did Frederick start carrying a silver needle on him?' she wondered.
"Nora, the soup's not poisoned. You can have it now," Frederick declared after his test, handing the thermos back to her.
Nora mustered a dry laugh, reluctant to take it. It wasn't that she was disgusted, but watching Frederick fish a silver needle out from his pocket without washing his hands to test her food was, well, unsanitary, to say the least.
"I don't want it now. I just had breakfast, and I'm quite full," Nora said, touching her stomach in polite refusal.
Frederick nodded and passed the thermos back to Baldwin.
"Baldwin, Nora says she's full. You might as well keep it for yourself. Also, no need to bring breakfast for Nora anymore. She has breakfast with Mr. Gordon every morning," Frederick informed him.
Baldwin could barely contain his laughter at Frederick's actions.
'Clearly, Frederick was doing this on purpose. Had Aaron instructed him to look after Nora? It seems Aaron is not completely out of the picture after all,' Baldwin contemplated.
Nora wanted to laugh, realizing that Frederick's move was deliberate.
'He must have followed Aaron's instructions. How childish of Aaron,' she mused. She flashed an apologetic smile at Baldwin and then stepped into the small farmhouse.
Once inside, she noticed Becky moving stuff around with a look of disdain on her face, muttering complaints under her breath. Despite her attitude, Becky seemed genuinely committed to working on the set.
Nora grinned in amusement but did not engage Becky to avoid distracting her, she then opted to go upstairs and check on Sue instead.
When Nora softly pushed open the door on the second floor, it crossed her mind that maybe she should have knocked.
"Sue," she began, but the words died in her throat as a flush crept up her cheeks. Sue was lying on the bed, her arms wrapped around Jack's neck in an intimate embrace. Jack, far from evading, was also reciprocating with equal tenderness.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see anything," stammered Nora, hastily retreating as she blushed. She couldn't help but think, 'They're moving along quite well, aren't they? But Sue should still be recuperating, and Jack really ought to be more reserved.'
