Chapter 331 Cut Off for Disobedience

Suzt explained, "Mom, at the party yesterday, Luna Moore was distressed by Gary and spent the whole time weeping in the restroom. I saw her and just offered some casual words of comfort. I told her crying was useless and to pull herself together. Who knew she would instigate her nephew to go against Nora?"

Suzy wept as she complained to Emma. "Yes, I hate Nora because she stole my man. Can't I be upset about it? Now, you've all ruined me. Are you satisfied?"

Emma looked on sympathetically, patting her back and soothing her with gentle words.

Ebenezer glanced at Nora, recalling the words she hadn't finished. With a stern face, he said, "Suzy, don't trivialize your actions. If what you did wasn't so extreme, Nora wouldn't have retaliated like this."

With tears brimming in her eyes, Suzy cried out, "Dad, now that you've found your real daughter, do I really bother you so much as the adopted one? Fine, I'm getting married soon, so you won't have to be bothered by me anymore!"

Ebenezer frowned, "You've done something wrong, and instead of reflecting on it, you blame others?"

For some reason, this adopted daughter of his was feeling more and more like a stranger to him!

At that moment, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, it was from the head of the Remington family.

He composed himself before answering, "Mr. Remington."

"Mr. Ebenezer, what's going on? I heard Suzy's trending again. Is it true, did she really spend last night at a hotel with Gordon family's eldest son?"

Hearing this, Ebenezer replied with an apology, "I'm sorry for making you the laughingstock."

"It seems Suzy doesn't want to marry Archer, anymore? If that's the case, we'll have to call off their engagement," the head of the Remington family said regretfully.

Ebenezer apologized profusely, "At this point, calling off the engagement is the only option, but we can still discuss an alliance between our families. Besides Suzy, there's Howard. Old Mrs. Remington has always wanted Howard to marry Evella, hasn't she?"

Howard thought, ‘Do I really have to be this unlucky in this situation? Why does it still have to be me marrying that woman!’

After a few more exchanges, Ebenezer ended the call. He stated, "As you've all heard, Suzy's scandal has gone viral, and the Remingtons now want to cancel the engagement."

Tears streamed down Suzy's face as her eyes flickered with emotion. She never really wanted to marry Archer Remington, but she didn't want to end the betrothal with a scandal either.

"Dad, if the Remington family wants to call off Suzy's marriage, that's fine, but can you please not make me marry the daughter from the Remington family?" Howard spoke up, his brow furrowed with frustration.

Ebenezer looked at him, "Initially, you were the one set to be matched with Evella Remington. It was only because Archer Remington stepped in to propose to Suzy that you were taken out of the equation. Now that Suzy's marriage plan has fallen through, the alliance naturally falls back to you."

Arranged marriages, the bane of every heir and heiress! Why couldn't he just choose his own partner in life? Howard was filled with a sense of helpless resignation.

At that moment, Emma spoke up, "I don't approve of this marriage! That Evella Remington is the daughter of a rapist; how could she possibly be suitable for my son?"

Ebenezer furrowed his brow, "What does her father's mistake have to do with her? From what I see, she's quiet and gentle, without the bad temper that often comes with being a rich girl. A girl like that is just fine."

Emma glared at him, "Your son doesn't like her, are you willing to sacrifice his lifelong happiness?"

"He is a part of the Hamilton family and must place the family before himself." Ebenezer argued, "Besides, affection can be cultivated over time. Look at Kenneth and Sandy; they didn't have any feelings for each other at first, and now aren't they doing well?"

The two mentioned exchanged glances. Kenneth instinctively took Sandy's hand, a slight smile playing on his lips with a look of agreement in his eyes.

Sandy lowered her gaze to the his well-defined hand and pursed her red lips.

Were her feelings for him truly good now? It seemed that her feelings had moved from initial strangeness to no longer being averse to him.

Not only was she no longer rejecting him, but she certainly had looked forward to seeing him.

"Howard is not the eldest; he need not sacrifice his desires for the sake of the family," Emma said to Howard. "Howard, if you don't want to marry Evella Remington just say so, and I'll support you in whatever you decide."

"You!" Ebenezer's frown deepened, the veins at his temples throbbing, visibly.

She really did love to disagree with him more and more!

Watching his parents on the verge of a confrontation over his situation, Howard quickly changed the subject. "Dad, Mom, let me think about the marriage proposal. Right now, let's deal with Suzy's problem first."

Hearing his words, Ebenezer glanced at Suzy and said sternly, "Now that the news has been reported, for the sake of Suzy's reputation, we have no choice but to arrange a marriage with the Gordon family, having her marry Jackson."

She was to marry Jackson! Suzy's head shot up, "No! I don't want to marry Jackson!"

Ebenezer said coldly, "If you don't want to marry him, what do you want? Do you want people to gossip about you, calling you promiscuous and reckless?"

"I..." Suzy faltered.

"Suzy, my older brother is deeply in love with you; you should just marry him," blurted Aaron from the sofa.

Suzy abruptly turned to look at him, her eyes welling up with tears that started to stream down her face. "Aaron, you know I like you, why are you doing this to me?" she demanded.

Aaron's expression remained cool while his fingers interlaced with Nora's. Although he didn't speak, his gesture made his stance clear. It was as if he was saying, "Why did you try to hurt my girl?"

"Fine, if you don't want to get married, then don't. It's not the end of the world. Mom can take care of you for the rest of your life!" Emma couldn't stand to see Suzy being mistreated; perhaps she just wanted to oppose Ebenezer, so she indulged Suzy.

Ebenezer's authority was challenged repeatedly, his complexion turning utterly grim.

"Suzy, our family has always been honorable and generous; if you dare to do something then you must also be prepared to face the consequences!" he declared sternly.

"If you won't listen to me and insist on not getting married, then you are no longer my daughter! I will announce to the world that our family has disowned you!" he added.

At these words, Suzy turned pale. He was threatening to cut ties with his own daughter! Without her family's support, she felt worthless!

Emma's face also went through a series of changes. “Ebenezer, Suzy is also my daughter. What right do you have to do this?” she contested.

Ebenezer stood with his hands behind his back, his voice authoritative, "I have spoken; it's our family that disowns her, and I am currently the head of the family. Do you still think that I do not have the right?"

His implication was clear; Suzy could still call Emma her mother, and she could use her own family's resources to support her daughter. But the bond between Suzy and the Hamilton family was over.

The Hamilton family would no longer support a defiant daughter!

Emma was at a loss for words, staring at Ebenezer. Even though she came from the Woodhouse family, a daughter married off was akin to water thrown out.

Her current glory hinged entirely on her husband's status in Lindwood City.

If her husband resolved to sever ties with Suzy, there was no way her own family would back Suzy against her husband's decision.
