Chapter 816 The Nurse Seemed Off

Jane answered the phone while walking out.

"Hello?"

"Ms. Harvey, just letting you know, a lawyer came to bail out Alvin and even brought documents from higher-ups to pressure us. But I followed the rules and didn't release Alvin."

Hearing this, Jane's expression turned cold.

'It seems Mr. Wright used his connections to bail out Alvin,' She thought.

"Well done. Alvin is not a well-behaved person; he must have done more than one bad thing in the past. Hurry up and investigate his background. As law enforcement officers, we must not let any criminal go."

"Got it."

Then they shifted the topic to the case of the escaped Ernest.

So far, they still hadn't found any trace of Ernest.

Jane listened while walking, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a nurse wearing a mask pushing a small cart toward Sandy's ward.

Jane paused, slightly tilting her head to glance at the nurse who was pushing the door.

The person was wearing a uniform, a large mask, and had black-brown hair draped over her shoulders.

Jane's gaze fell to the nurse's feet, her eyes narrowing slightly.

This nurse's feet were larger than the average woman's.

They looked about size 11 or 12.

The nurse's shoes were covered in a lot of dirt, and the surface was very dirty.

'How could a nurse's shoes be so dirty?'

'Like they had just come from some hidden corner.'

Something flashed in Jane's mind, and her face changed slightly.

'Something's wrong!'

'This nurse is suspicious!'

'He might be a man in disguise!' She thought.

Jane put away her phone and immediately turned and rushed into the ward.

At this moment, Ernest had just pushed the small cart to the bedside.

He placed a few bottles of medicine on the bedside table, then glanced at Zephyr and the baby Otis he was holding.

"I need to take the baby for a check-up now; give him to me," Ernest said.

Zephyr thought the nurse's voice sounded a bit strange but didn't think much of it and was about to hand Otis over.

Just then, Jane rushed in and shouted, "Don't give him the baby; he's not a nurse!"

Zephyr was slightly stunned, instinctively pulling Otis back and taking two steps back, looking at the nurse warily.

A flash of resentment crossed Ernest's eyes, and he stopped pretending, grabbing a knife from the cart and charging forward.

"Give me the baby, or I'll kill you too; you're no good anyway!"

Ernest's voice had completely turned into a man's voice.

Zephyr was shocked, holding Otis tightly and quickly retreating.

"Who are you? What do you want!"

"Give me the baby now!"

Ernest roared, rushing to grab Otis.

"No!"

Sandy, who had been stunned for a moment, cried out in alarm.

Kenneth's face turned grim, and he quickly grabbed a cup from the table and threw it at Ernest.

Ernest was quick. Seeing the cup coming from the corner of his eye, he quickly retreated, dodging the attack.

Zephyr took the opportunity to run towards Kenneth and Nora with Otis.

"Are you okay!"

Nora was frightened by the sudden change, her heart racing.

"I'm fine," Zephyr said.

"Dr. Wright, give the baby to Nora. Nora, take the baby out first!"

Kenneth ordered in a deep voice.

He didn't know who this fake nurse was.

Ernest kept trying to take Otis, so they had to protect Otis first.

"Okay."

Nora took Otis and ran to the living room.

Jane had already come in, protecting Nora as she exited the ward.

Inside the ward, Ernest watched the two leave, a flash of hatred in his eyes, then suddenly charged at Sandy with the knife.

"If you don't give me the baby, I'll kill you, you bitch!"

Kenneth and Zephyr's eyes turned cold simultaneously, and they quickly ran to the bedside.

Unexpectedly, Ernest feinted, swinging the knife back at Kenneth.

Kenneth was focused on Sandy, and by the time he reacted, it was too late.

Seeing the knife about to stab his chest, Zephyr quickly pushed him away.

Kenneth stumbled, unable to stop himself from falling onto the bed.

"Ken," Sandy called out, quickly helping him up.

Kenneth frowned, his handsome face tense, first looking at Sandy.

Seeing she was unharmed, he breathed a slight sigh of relief.

"I'm fine."

Zephyr, seeing their concern for each other, was momentarily dazed. At that moment, Ernest's knife was already at his throat.

The cold blade pressed against his artery, making Zephyr tense up, feeling this scene was too familiar.

He must be cursed with bad luck this year!

This was the third time he had been taken hostage!

At the door, Jane, after escorting Nora and Otis out, hurried back.

As soon as she entered, she saw Zephyr being held hostage.

Her eyes cold, she walked forward quickly, pulling out her badge.

"I'm a police officer. Who are you? I advise you to let him go and not make things worse!"

Ernest sneered. "I know you, you're in cahoots with them!"

Jane stared into Ernest's eyes, narrowing her own.

"You're Ernest!"

He was the Ernest they had been looking for!

"That's right, I am!"

Ernest glared at her. "Aren't you police looking for me? Come on, arrest me, you fools!"

Ernest's eyes were full of madness. Jane pressed her lips together, her face cold.

This Ernest was quite capable.

There were police officers around the hospital. However, he still managed to disguise himself and get in.

Why was Ernest targeting Sandy?

And why did he want Otis so badly?

At this moment, two police officers rushed in.

They had noticed something was wrong while on watch and came in.

Seeing Jane, they were slightly surprised. "Jane, you're here too?"

Jane nodded slightly at them. "He's Ernest."

"Yes, we were careless and let him slip in right under our noses."

One of the officers pulled out his gun and aimed it at Ernest.

"Ernest put down the weapon and stop hurting innocent people!"

Ernest pressed the knife against Zephyr's throat, his eyes full of hatred.

"He's innocent, but what about me? I had a wife and child, a peaceful and happy life, and they ruined it!"

He said, his gaze sweeping towards Kenneth and Sandy, "Your Radiant Beauty Clinic made me lose my wife, and now you're making me go to jail; it's all your fault!"

Hearing the name Ernest, Kenneth knew who he was.

He held Sandy, his face cold.

"Ernest, let him go; we can talk this out."

Ernest sneered. "I'll let him go, sure. I originally just wanted to take your child and make you suffer for life, but now I've changed my mind. If you don't want me to kill him, then either you kill yourself or your wife does!"
