Chapter 138 The Truth
Nora pressed the doorbell, but no one answered.
Growing impatient but persistent, she called out, "Paul, I know you're in there. Open up, or I'm calling for help!"
After a brief period of silence, the door finally opened.
Paul greeted them, his clothes slightly disheveled and a lingering glint of desire in his eyes.
"Jenny, what are you guys doing here?"
The sight of Jenny sparked a flicker of panic in him.
Jenny, locking eyes with him, shoved past Paul and rushed inside.
She found herself in a luxurious suite.
Racing the inner room, she saw Kim, shirtless, propped up against the bed.
"It is, Kim! Paul did come to see Kim!"
The last sliver of hope in Jenny's heart dissipated, her eyes reddening again.
She never thought she'd be the one to catch a cheater—especially not a male one.
"Jenny, bursting in so suddenly, what are you looking for?"
Paul had followed her in, trying to maintain his composure.
Jenny spun around to face him, "Paul, didn't you say you were going to the office? What are you doing here?"
Paul's eyes flickered, and he responded, "Just needed to discuss something with Kim."
Jenny's fingers curled into her palm, "What's your relationship with Kim?"
Paul forced a smile, "We're just friends. We share the same personal trainer."
He was still lying.
Nora's eyes were cool as she walked over to the trash bin and pressed down on it.
Inside was a recently used condom.
"Really? Friends? And you needed to use that?" she pointed to the damning evidence.
Paul choked, fighting back the panic inside as he turned to Kim.
"Kim, did you have a woman over before I arrived?"
Kim in the middle of dressing, shot a resentfulglance at Paul.
It was a look of blame for not sticking to the truth.
Nora couldn't help but chuckle. "Kim's got himself a lady? I need to check the security footage to see what kind of woman he's picked up."
Kim buttoned up his shirt and walked over to Paul.
"Paul, since they're onto us, you might as well come clean with Jenny."
"Kim, just shut it," Paul murmured, shooting him a warning look.
But Kim wouldn't hold his tongue.
"Jenny, as you can see, it's me that Paul loves. You have feelings for him, and I was cool with you two getting married. Don't worry; once you're hitched, you can find some guy for your needs. We won't interfere with each other."
Jenny felt a wave of nausea at his words!
They were using her as a shield, blasé about 'not interfering'!
She wanted to lash out at them, but her throat was stuffed with cotton; no words would come out.
Paul reached for her, "Jenny, let's go home and talk this through."
"Don't touch me, I feel sick."
She jerked away from him, taking a step back.
Paul's face darkened, "You think I'm disgusting?"
Jenny took a deep breath, swallowing the bitterness rising in her throat.
"Paul, I've got nothing against same-sex love because love is free. But you lied to me! Have you ever considered my feelings after I gave you my whole heart?"
Paul knew Jenny was pure and kind-hearted.
He looked at her, still trying to persuade her.
"Jenny, you're such a good girl; otherwise, I wouldn't have considered marrying you. Don't worry, I'll treat you right after we're married. I'll fulfill all my husbandly duties except, you know, that one need. Other than that, I can do my part."
"Jenny, can't you just let me have this if you love me? The three of us could be happy together!"
The three of them living together? He was still dreaming an unrealistic dream!
Nora found this man incredibly annoying.
She stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face.
"I've seen shameless, but you take the cake, Paul! You're worthless!"
She put all her strength into it, and Paul stumbled from the impact.
Kim rushed to steady him, but as he turned to confront Nora, she kicked him right where he was previously injured.
Kim's leg hadn't fully healed, and with Nora's kick, he collapsed to the ground, his leg likely broken again.
He clutched his injured leg and cried out.
"Kim, what's wrong?" Paul exclaimed, rushing over to him.
"Paul, my leg's killing me!" Kim wailed.
Paul was shocked and furious as he turned towards Nora, his eyes brimming with hatred.
"You did this! Nora, it was you, wasn't it? You got suspicious last time at the hospital, so you invited me over for dinner today just to drink my food, didn't you?"
Paul was no fool.
Nora didn't deny it. "That's right. I wanted Jenny to see your true colors."
Paul's anger was uncontrollable as he stood up and marched toward Nora, his fists cracking with rage.
Quick on her feet, Jenny stepped in front of Nora. "Paul, what are you going to do? If you've got a problem, come at me!"
Nora's heart softened slightly as she advised, "Paul, you'd better take Kim to the hospital before it's too late, or he might lose his leg."
From behind, Kim's painful cry broke the tense air, "Paul, my leg hurts more and more!"
Paul's chest heaved with fury, but after giving Nora a spiteful glare, he turned to help Kim onto the bed. Then, he immediately called his assistant.
Nora took Jenny by the arm, leading her out of the room.
Throughout their departure, Jenny remained silent, tears streaming down her face like a breached dam.
It pained Nora to see her best friend like this.
She wrapped her arms around Jenny, whispering soothingly, "Jenny, just let it out. Don't hold back."
Jenny clung to her, no longer able to contain her sobbing.
"Nora, I thought I'd found happiness, but it was all a lie! Paul, that cheat!"
Nora patted her back, her shirt soaking with her best friend's tears. She let out a weary sigh, allowing Jenny to vent.
In some way, Nora could relate.
Even though Paul's actions were different, the outcome was the same.
Lousy men had duped both sisters.
"Jenny, guess we're sisters in misfortune, both duped by jerks. But justice has a way of showing up. The heartache will pass. Look at me; I'm doing just fine without that loser."
After a while, Jenny pulled herself together, her voice hiccuping with lingering sobs.
"Nora, you have a rather unique way of comforting people. But fate didn't leave me with adorable kids like Alex, Billy, and Samantha."
At that, Nora let out a resigned chuckle.
"Someday, you'll find a man who loves you and will create a beautiful family with you."
"Will they be as cute as those three little ones?" Jenny wiped away her tears, her voice nasal.
"Of course. Haven't you seen how beautiful you are?" Nora laughed.
"Nora, you always know how to cheer me up." Jenny's mood lifted slightly.
With a smile, Nora looped an arm around her and headed towards the car, "Come on, you're staying with me tonight."
Jenny hesitated briefly, "No need, I'll sleep at my place."
"I'm just worried you'll overthink things."
Nora persisted; Jenny fell silent for a while and said nothing more.
