Chapter 44: Allowing you to be attracted to me

In Jack's lab on Park Avenue, Nora followed Jack around the lab. Noticing the time, she knew she had to leave.

"Jack, I have to get going."

If she didn't get back soon, the impatient Thomas at home would start to get irritated.

Jack looked at her, "I really wish you could start helping me here tomorrow."

Nora smiled, "You're busy, I'll just take a cab home."

"That won't do, I'll drive you."

Jack grabbed his car keys and drove her home.
As Nora's car cruised past the edge of the village, she caught sight of a luxury vehicle parked by the road.

She was puzzled.

It was the kind of top-of-the-line ride that only the richest of the rich could afford.

Who would drive such a car to this rural neck of the woods?

"Nora, I'll walk you to the door. I wanna catch a glimpse of the guy you rescued," Jack said as he pulled up beside her house.

"He's got one nose and two eyes like any normal guy," Nora replied with a chuckle.

"I heard from Jenny that he's got amnesia, and he kind of resembles Alex and Billy, right?” Jack asked.

"This guy can't be all bad if he bears any resemblance," Jack teased.

Nora opened the gate, still grinning. “He must be alright. He's great with kids, and they seem to really like him."

Jack gave her a penetrating glance. "Sounds like you've taken a shine to him."

Nora's eyes sparkled teasingly. "Have I? Maybe it's just the natural sympathy a doctor feels for her patient."

After all, it had been over a month. Watching the man's gradual recovery gave her a sense of accomplishment.

Yeah, it was that kind of fondness.

Jack didn't press further, silently accompanying her across the courtyard to the front door.

Inside the house, Suzy was quick to defend Aaron against any misinterpretation.

"Aaron, I'm not trying to pry. I'm just worried about you. After all, you're not just anybody," she voiced her concern.

Aaron's expression softened at her words.

He calculated that Nora should be back any minute. “Okay, you can go back now. Don't worry about me."

Suzy's eyes were filled with unease. "Aaron, this place isn't secure enough. I'm not comfortable leaving you here alone. Why don't you come back with us? I'll have my brother find you a more private place to recover, okay?"

"Yeah, Aaron, you really should come with us," Howard agreed.

Impatience flickered across Aaron's face. "I said it's fine. Howard, take Suzy home."

Howard looked at Suzy.

With tears in her eyes, Suzy reached out and embraced Aaron.

"Aaron, how am I supposed to be at ease with you like this?"

"Suzy, be good, go home!"

Aaron's brow knotted as he was about to gently push her off, but the front door swung open at that moment.

Nora hadn't expected to find anyone at home.

She paused, surprised at the sight of the two hugging.

What in the world was going on?

Could it be that Thomas's family had shown up?

The air felt thick with tension for a moment.

Aaron gently pushed Suzy away. "Nora, you’re back."

Suzy turned toward Nora, her eyes betraying a flicker of amazement.
How could a woman be so breathtakingly beautiful!

Was it really her who saved Aaron?

Nora glanced at Suzy and recognized her instantaneously.

The A-list celebrity, Suzy?
Was she the one who had just embraced Thomas in tears?

Word on the street was that Suzy and Aaron had been an item for years and were on the brink of tying the knot.

Nora's gaze settled on Aaron's face, and she felt a lump in her throat.

The man she’d saved was none other than the renowned Aaron!

"Hello, I'm Suzy. You're the one who saved my dear Aaron, aren't you?"

Suzy's smile radiated a gentle elegance.

"I'm Nora. Yes, I saved him."

Nora collected her thoughts and turned to Aaron, "Thomas—or, should I be addressing you as Mr. Gordon?"

Mr. Gordon?
Why did that feel so distant?

Aaron studied Nora's cool expression, his lips pressed in a thin line.

"Nora, it seems you've guessed. He's none other than Aaron Gordon, the person in power at the Gordon Corporation," Suzy added with a laugh.

"Thank you again for saving his life. Just name your price—whatever compensation you desire, ask away."

Nora's eyes shifted from Aaron to Suzy.

"Let's see. Mr. Gordon has been under my care for over a month, so even on the low end, that would be around ten million dollars. Given your esteemed Mr. Gordon's status, I’m sure that's manageable for him."

He had promised he would repay her.

Turns out, it wasn't an empty promise!

"You're asking for ten million?"

Suzy's smile faltered, a flicker of disdain in her eyes.

What a bold demand from this woman.

Howard was observing Nora, his gaze slightly vacuous.

When he heard her request for ten million, he snapped back to reality.

"Ten million for a month's stay? Don't you think you're biting off more than you can chew?"

Demanding ten million just like that?

Even though they weren't short on cash, Howard's impression of Nora worsened, recalling the chunky woman's comments about her.

"Sir, if not for my timely intervention, you might be staring at a corpse right now. Is Mr. Gordon's life not worth ten million?" Nora asked with poise and confidence.

Howard choked on his words, momentarily at a loss.

Finally, Aaron spoke up, "Enough, I'll settle the matter of compensation with her myself. You all can go back now."

"Aaron, if you're not coming back with us, then I'll stay here to take care of you."

Suzy glanced at Nora, a hint of wariness in her eye.

Such a stunning female doctor sharing living quarters with Aaron...
Could Aaron actually fancy her?

"Suzy, what can you do if you stay behind? Caring for the sick is hard work." Aaron's brow furrowed in frustration.

Suzy's face fell, and she quickly interjected, "Aaron, I want to stay to keep you company and tend to the heavy lifting. I could hire a servant to look after you."

"No need, she's all I require."

Aaron's gaze softened as he turned to Nora.

Suzy's heart tightened as she noticed the change in his demeanor.

Aaron had a reputation for being aloof and stoic.

It was a rare sight to see him show tenderness to anyone outside his own family.
But the way he had just looked at Nora...

"Howard, take Suzy home."

Aaron spoke again, his impatience evident in his tone.

Howard's gaze shifted from Nora back to Suzy.

Suppressing her emotions, Suzy reached out and gently took Nora's hand with serene grace.

"Nora, please take good care of Aaron," she said softly.

Nora glanced at Suzy. Though she smiled, her eyes didn't hold the mirth.

Nora averted her gaze and withdrew her hand.

"Don't worry, for the right price, I'll make sure he's well taken care of."

Was Suzy worried about her?

Afraid that Nora might fall for Aaron?

Totally unnecessary!

Nora despised women who chased after someone else's man!

"Aaron, I must ask again, are you sure you won't come back with us?" Howard inquired.

"Relax, Nora's expertise in Traditional Medicine is remarkable. I trust that you'll keep this confidential for now."

He didn't want to reveal himself until his leg was fully healed.

Yet given that the Hamilton siblings had managed to find him, he suspected his days of remaining incognito were numbered.
