Chapter 990 Overestimating Charm

Johnnie had no idea Randy and Vilma were trashing his taste.

He drove to the hotel and rang Gabriella's doorbell. No answer. He paused, pulled out his phone, and called her. Still nothing.

'Is Gabriella mad and left Silver City?' he wondered.

He sent her a message: [Left? If so, I'll check out.]

Meanwhile,  Gabriella was in a cab heading back to Youston. She saw his message, scoffed, and blocked him.

Blocking him felt like a weight off her shoulders. She wasn't going to tolerate his lectures anymore. Maybe he'd regret it later.

Johnnie sighed, put his phone away, and figured she was really mad. Maybe he pushed her too hard. Their relationship was new, and he was already trying to change her. He realized he overestimated his charm and decided not to contact her for now.

A week later, Vilma got out of the hospital, and Johnnie drove Randy and Vilma home. They noticed Gabriella hadn't visited and found out from Susan that Johnnie and Gabriella might've broken up. Randy and Vilma were thrilled and invited Susan over.

Johnnie didn't stick around. "Mom, Dad, I need to work. I'm heading back to Youston."

Randy frowned. "Johnnie, your sister and brother-in-law are coming, and Susan's here. Stay for dinner."

"No, I have to go," Johnnie said, turning to leave.

"Hey, Johnnie!"

"Randy, I'll see him off," Susan said, following him out.

"Johnnie, are you leaving because of me?" she asked.

"Don't overthink it. I have work and I want to win back my girlfriend," he replied.

Susan's eyes flashed. "You still want to be with Gabriella?"

"Yes," Johnnie said calmly. "I've been thinking. Do I still like Gabriella? Do I still want to be with her? Yes. So I'll try to win her back. I don't want to break up over a misunderstanding."

"Susan, I'll always remember your kindness. If you need my help, just ask. I'll do my best." He nodded, unlocked his car, and drove off.

Susan watched the car leave, feeling disappointed. Johnnie had been avoiding her all week, clearly wanting to keep his distance. She had hoped for a chance with him after his breakup, but now he was determined to win Gabriella back.

Johnnie returned to Youston and went straight to the office. Aaron was there too.

Seeing Johnnie back, Aaron was surprised. "Johnnie, why are you here? Where's Gabriella?"

"We had a disagreement. Haven't talked to her in a week," Johnnie replied.

Aaron was puzzled. "A week? Where have you been?"

"I've been with my mom in the hospital," Johnnie explained.

Aaron frowned. "Why didn't you tell me? Is she okay now?"

"She's fine, already discharged."

"Has Gabriella returned to Youston?" Johnnie asked.

"I don't know. She hasn't contacted me or been at the office," Aaron said.

Johnnie frowned. Gabriella had stayed in Chrisland to get close to Aaron. Now that her plan was exposed, she might have gone back to her country.

Johnnie got worried. "I'll call her."

"Okay."

Johnnie tried calling Gabriella, but it didn't go through. He quickly sent a message and realized she had blocked him.

"What's wrong? Can't reach her?" Aaron asked, noticing Johnnie's troubled look.

"Yeah, she blocked me," Johnnie said.

Aaron raised an eyebrow. "What kind of disagreement did you have?"

Johnnie explained, "A neighbor visited my mom in the hospital. Gabriella thought she was hitting on me and slapped her. I asked her to apologize, she refused, and I said we'd break up if she didn't."

Aaron laughed. "So you just ended it like that?"

"Yes."

"Didn't she threaten you with the confidential documents?"

"I told her to do whatever she wanted."

Aaron laughed again. "So you drove her away?"

"I just wanted to humble her a bit," Johnnie said.

"And you ended up driving her away," Aaron noted.

Johnnie hung his head in silence.

"Do you still like her?" Aaron asked.

Johnnie was silent, thinking.

"If you don't say anything, I'll take it as a yes," Aaron said.

Johnnie looked up. "I think she still has feelings for me."

Aaron laughed. "Confident, huh? Then why did she block you?"

"Probably because of her pride, waiting for me to regret it," Johnnie replied.

"Do you regret it?"

"No."

"Why not?" Aaron asked.

"Because ups and downs deepen a relationship. If it's too plain, it's meaningless," Johnnie said.

Aaron patted his shoulder. "Didn't expect you to have such thoughts. You're not straightforward at all, huh?"

"Mr. Gordon, I'm always honest in my work," Johnnie said seriously.

Aaron laughed. "Alright, I'll contact Gabriella and see where she is."

"Thank you, Mr. Gordon."

Aaron dialed Gabriella's number. The phone rang several times before she answered. "Well,  Mr. Gordon, it's rare for you to call. Aren't you afraid I'll keep bothering you?"
