Chapter 78 Taking a Stand for Nora

Aaron's gaze shifted slightly, avoiding a direct response to Lucas's question.

"Lucas, who I fancy has nothing to do with your divorce."

His lack of denial was a tacit admission of his feelings for Nora.

Lucas's chest heaved with emotion, "Aaron, you can't do this; you can't leverage your power against me. What will people think if they find out you're eyeing your cousin's wife?"

Aaron's face turned cold.

"Lucas, embracing your heritage is one thing, but if you can't recognize where you stand, you won't like the consequences. If you refuse the divorce, I won't force you. But from now on, keep your hands off Gordon Group's affairs. My company has no room for those who can't keep their roles straight!"

His icy gaze and imposing aura surrounded him.

Lucas's face darkened. How could Aaron threaten him like this?

He wanted to shout, "Do what you want!"

But memories of past struggles, the humiliation of being trampled upon when powerless, made him slump back in his chair.

He couldn't afford to lose his wealth and status over Nora.

Aaron, seeing his resignation, pressed on, "The sooner you get the divorce settled, the better. And don't bother her anymore."

It was a clear signal to steer clear of Nora.

Lucas clenched his fists and lowered his eyes, silent.

Then his phone rang. It was his father.

He answered, "Dad."

"Lucas, where are you? Are you aware of the scandal with Nora that's all over Central Hospital?"

Lucas was perplexed, "What scandal with Nora?"

"Lucas, did you scrap with Nora's admirer last night, trying to win her back?"

A flicker in Lucas's eyes, "Has someone captured that moment?"

He wasn't in any fight. He got beaten up.

"Lucas, are you out of your mind? Your momand I told you to divorce Nora, not to win her back. That woman ain't welcome in our house. Where are you now? Get over to your ma's room at the hospital right now."
After being chewed out by his father, Lucas would usually have stood his ground with well-reasoned arguments.

But now, he glanced at Aaron across the table and simply responded, "Got it; I'll be back soon."

Aaron took a sip of his tea, his gaze becoming contemplative.

"What's going on?" he asked.

Lucas replied, "My dad's telling me that there's some buzz about Nora and me at Central Hospital. I'm not sure what's up, but he wants me to head back now."

Aaron narrowed his eyes and offered a courtesy, "Have some food before you go."

"No thanks, you enjoy," Lucas said.

How could he eat knowing that things with Nora had fallen through?

Lucas left dejectedly, and Aaron turned to Noe, saying, "Noe, find out what news came out of the hospital today."

Noe overheard and quickly made a call to check.

Soon, his subordinate sent a news link to his phone.

Noe opened the link and saw his name mentioned in the gossip news, leaving him speechless.

"Who has nothing better to do than to paint me as Nora's admirer?" he muttered.

Hearing this, Aaron's demeanor turned icy as he gave Noe a piercing look.

That look was so chilling that Noe hurriedly handed his phone over for Aaron to see for himself.

He didn't want Mr. Gordon to think he was into Nora.

Aaron read the news with an expression as cold as ice.

"Find out who posted this," he commanded.

"Yes, sir."

Noe promptly acknowledged and made another call.

His team was efficient, quickly tracing the post back to Dr. Luna.

Not only did they identify her, but they also laid out her entire network.

"Mr. Gordon, the one who posted is Dr. Luna, the daughter of Deputy Director George at Central Hospital. She's also part of the research team and Nora's colleague."

George's daughter?

Aaron's dark eyes squinted, and after a moment, he spoke softly, "Noe, isn't the current director retiring this year, with George in the running for the position, likely to be the next director?"

Having substantial shares in Central Hospital, he was well aware of the leadership dynamic.

"That's correct," Noe confirmed.

"Spread the word, shut George out," Aaron said.

Noe's expression turned serious as he promptly made the call.

Was their CEO stepping up for Nora?

Aaron remained composed, and after Noe finished the call, he gestured for him to sit and eat.

Noe sat across from him, picking up a few calls related to work.

They were urging Aaron to address some difficult matters at the company.
Noe cast a glance at the company's CEO, keeping Nora's instructions in mind.

"Mr. Gordon won't be coming into the office today; let it be for now."

Aaron paused in his meal.

A moment later, he said to Noe, "Noe, hospital food isn't the best, and Nora had a fever last night. She needs something more nutritious. Order the kitchen to prepare some dishes and have them delivered to the hospital, please."

Hearing this, Noe quickly agreed.

He thought to himself that the CEO was really considerate towards Nora.

At the hospital, Nora was about to head to the cafeteria for lunch after sending the surgical plan to Howard's email when a delivery person whowed up with her lunch.

Nora looked surprised. "I didn't order anything."

"Mr. Wilson asked me to bring it to you," the delivery person said.

Could it be Mr. Wilson?

Blinking, Nora took out her phone and dialed Noe's number.

The call connected quickly.

"Mr. Wilson, did you have someone send me this delivery?" Nora asked.

"No, Mr. Gordon asked me to do it," Noe said with a laugh.

Ordered by Aaron? Nora felt a warmth in her heart. "This is from a fancy restaurant in Houston. Are you guys dining out?"

"Yes, Mr. Gordon is here. Let me pass you over."

On the other end, Noe handed the phone to Aaron.

Aaron took the phone and said, "Did you get the delivery?"

Nora furrowed her brows. "Thomas, weren't you supposed to rest at home? Why are you out again?"

Aaron grinned. "Don't worry, I keep my promises. I've taken the medicine, and after resting all morning, I feel no pain. I'm not out for business; I'm meeting with Lucas."

So he went out for her divorce matter?

Nora was touched.

"And what does Lucas say now? Has he agreed to the divorce?"

"He agreed. You won't have to go to the hearing or the court; I've sent someone in your place, and you won't have to see him again," Aaron said.

Feeling grateful, Nora replied, "Thomas, thank you."

Without his intervention, she knew Lucas would have hassled her for a long time.
